Hannibal,S. – Beyond Reason
Presented by Susan Hannibal Holistic Trauma Expert www.SueHannibal.com According to psychiatrist Judith Herman, author of Trauma and Recovery, helplessness and overwhelm are precursors of panic, phobias and anxiety in trauma survivors. According to the ACE Study, Adverse Childhood Experiences, early trauma triggers changes in the brain and body that form the roots of emotional and physical illness. See www.acestoohigh.org www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/acestudy/ There are dozens of issues that conventional education and training do not address and for which conventional techniques are ineffective. For example, alternate and non-verbal states of consciousness: past life, womb, birth, infancy, dissociation, DID. Shock trauma such as complex PTSD from war or growing up in a warzone at home, produces deeply imprinted trauma and may include dissociation. See ACE Study on your EDIT Chart. 3 kinds of panic attacks: cued, (direct trigger) uncued, (no known trigger) and situationally triggered (a combination.) Phobias follow a similar pattern. A combat vet panics when hearing Spanish. An incest survivor has phobia and panic on an airplane. Trace the energetic signature. Look for a pattern of CAUSE and EFFECT. Repetition or re-enactment patterns, links, triggers, connections, ask client “what or who does this remind you of?” Find the symbolic common denominators. Detach from literal interpretations, engage metaphorical interpretations. Trace the energetic signature backwards: X +A=B Step 1: presenting symptom is B (present time) Step 2: Engage metaphor diagnosis: What sort of trauma could cause that? (cause and effect) Step 3: Ask client re: presenting symptoms or issue—”What or who does this remind you of?” Find the missing diagnostic link. There is one page of metaphors in your handout and four additional pages on the CD. Take brief physical history, correlate to EDIT. 2nd chakra through 5th: “Get off my back.” criticized, unsupported, betrayed, carrying others problems on your back. Lower back: money issues ($ is fundamental support and survival.) Betrayed, stabbed in the back. Fear, anxiety, distrust, “I can’t turn my back on him.” “Back off!” Carrying the weight of problems on your back or shoulders. Backed into a corner, back up against the wall. Can also be grief, in back heart chakra. According to the ACE Study, unhealed trauma can cause life-threatening disease in adulthood. Always diagnose and treat actual or perceived threats to survival. Panic is a feeling that one is dying. If the hidden root of panic is a dissociated survival issue, i.e., birth trauma, treating other issues will be incomplete or ineffective unless the dissociated issue is treated. See EDIT chart root chakra, survival, and ACE triangle. “The problem is not what’s wrong with you, it’s what happened to you.” Ask them: “What or who does this remind you of ?” (If they don’t know, then engage symbolic sight and look for X; dissociated or pre-verbal. Zack: presenting symptom, eczema on hands, cause: emotional abuse and sibling bullying. Army Major Jill, RN: snake phobia, cause: fear of rape by troops in Afghanistan. Molly: claustrophobia in open MRI, cause: date rape in a car 40 years prior. Nancy: phobia of flying, cause: sexual abuse age 7. Bill: psoriasis, cause: alcoholic, abusive parents (case history with EDIT treatment on the CD). Army officer, age 45, 2008: eight years of uncued panic attacks healed in one session with EDIT Process. Cause: dissociated traumatic birth. Engage symbolic sight: his panic ideation: “I’m suffocating, I’m dying, the whole world is dying.” Repetitive dreams: being trapped in small places, i.e., suitcase, toy box.. a birth canal?? Call your mother… Businessman hoards books and files. Metaphor: he didn’t have the information to prevent the attack by enemy forces in a past life. Everyone died. An RN is allergic to wheat, salt, corn & butter. Metaphor: “murdered for stealing food from the children.” Female age 20 has chronic anxiety rooted in a hanging execution in what appeared to be the Dark Ages. Fear of authority figures, crowds, police, courts, judges, fear of going to prison. The body/mind speaks to us in metaphor language. Dreams are evidence of the influence of metaphor in the unconscious, and we’ve seen with the back, how the body uses metaphors to get our attention. Learn to listen between the lines to your clients and you will hear them speak metaphor. Then bring it to their attention and connect the dots in their physical and emotional history. To date there are over 60 peer reviewed published research studies in the field of Energy Psychology. One study in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease documented the stunning efficacy and safety of EFT for combat PTSD. February 2013 - Volume 201 Issue 2 - p 153–160. The APA, American Psychological Assn. has approved CE for psychologists for energy psychology training, joining every other psychotherapeutic profession, plus RN, L.Ac., D.C. etc. 1) Bio Sue Hannibal 2) Energy Psychology Research: A Hierarchy of Evidence 3) 5-page list of body/mind metaphors 4) Article: Panic Attacks and Phobias: Three Case Histories and the Hidden Metaphors That Diagnosed Them 5) Article: Spontaneous Healing with the EDIT Process: Treating Dissociation at the Intersection of Body and Mind 6) Article: Beyond Reason: Using Metaphor Language to Diagnose the Roots of Phobias, Panic, Complex PTSD and Dissociation 7) Transcript of 90-minute EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) healing session with Sgt. Readings are usually 1-1.5 pages single spaced. A 90-minute session done by phone, ( doesn’t affect accuracy) is $225. A reading alone, with no interpretation or client interaction, is $150.
