Best we should fill the air with our planes and other thingies. With most major club functions behind us, we can relax and enjoy sport flying and the few fun flies left to us. Speaking of which, the next will be a "Climb and Glide" with a few options [+/-]. Also, a 7-11 dice roll start and finish as an equalizer. Better to be lucky than good! (Better yet to be lucky and good). Happy news, congratulations to Diana and Ron Petterec on their wedding and wishing them a long, happy life together. Sad news, we regret the loss of Matt Hauser’s dear wife, Beatrice. She fought a long, AMVETS POST 66 hard struggle with cancer. May the souls of the faithful 700 MCHENRY RD WHEELING, IL. 60090 rest in peace. I`ll say no more. See you flying. Meetings are the 3rd Monday of the month. RENEW YOUR BLUE MAX & AMA MEMBERSHIPS!! September 2014 Volume 21— Issue 9 Page 5 Editor’s Page By Lynne Walters THE ANSWER TO AUGUST’S ‘NAME THAT PLANE’ The name of the plane is the Aichi M6A1 Seiran. Larry Bochenko was the only person to guess it correctly and will get a free raffle ticket at the September meeting. During WWII this aircraft was designed to be carried by and launched from the largest submarine at that time. This ingenious 2 man aircraft was a low wing, all metal design powered by a single inverted V-12 liquid-cooled 1400 hp engine. The aircraft was mounted on 2 floats and with its complex folding wing and tail sections could be completely assembled on deck within several minutes. Fluorescent paint was used on key parts to ease assembly at night. SEPTEMBER’S ‘NAME THAT PLANE’ In the late 1940’s, this aircraft corporation’s first aircraft design became America’s first original short take-off and landing design. The aircraft could take-off & land within 500 ft while clearing a 50 ft barrier. Its controls were effective at speeds as low as 28 mph. Send all responses to Bradford Walters at [email protected]. BUILDING TIP BY RICH FROST NEVER use a hot glue gun to build your models. Hot glue does NOT penetrate into the wood, thus the wood is just tacked together. Most Chinese ARFs are built with a glue gun Hence, they are not very strong. Eg: Landing gear gets pulled out on a hard landing. We see that all the time. One should go over every accessible joint with either CA, white glue, or epoxy when assembling an ARF. ***We need you to take action now and respond by September 23, 2014 (60 day extension) to the FAA Interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft that was released June 23, 2014. The Academy has reviewed the rule and is extremely disappointed and troubled at the approach the FAA has chosen to take in regards to this issue. All AMA members, family and friends need to take action now to let the FAA know that this rule significantly impacts the entire aeromodeling community and that this community is resolute and committed to protecting the hobby. All comments must include the docket number FAA-2014-0396. Email: Go to http://www.regulations.gov. Follow the online instructions for sending your comments electronically. Mail: Send Comments to Docket Operations, M-30; US Department of Transportation, 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE., West Building Ground Floor, Room W12-140, West Building Ground Floor, Washington, DC 20590-0001..
