S BODY LOTION [email protected] hile dermatologists advise using a sunscreen during the summers, it’s easy to get confused with the wide range of sun protection factors (SPF) available in the market. To ensure that you pick the one that provides maximum sun protection, it’s best to choose according to your skin type. W GET SKIN WISE HIGHER SPF, NOT ALWAYS BETTER While there are many theories that are doing the rounds regarding sunscreens, the one that is most common is the belief that the higher the SPF, the better it is for your skin. “If you choose an SPF with a higher denomination, it will make your skin extremely oily and can also cause burning or itching. Thus an SPF of 15 to 30++ is considered the best for the Indian summers”, says dermatologist Dr. Geetanjali Shetty. However, if you are in a profession that requires you to stay out in the sun for longer durations, then you may choose an SPF that has a higher denomination (50++ and above). Just like you'd pick a moisturiser, toner and cleanser according to your skin type, similarly, it is also crucial to select an SPF based on your skin texture and quality. Says cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Raj Parikh, “The facial skin is comparatively thinner than the rest of the body. The one that suits the skin will keep it protected from the harmful UV rays Normal skin: A lotion of the sun and won’t lead Tubelights, fluoresbased SPF is best suited to breakouts, which nor- cent and halogen for your skin. For this, you should sit out early morning in the sun when the rays are not that powerful. a thick SPF. While choosing a SPF for your skin, remember to pick one with a little thickness so that it moisturises your skin. READ THE CONTENTS Just like you check the ingredients behind a food pack, always look for the content behind the bottle, when selecting a SPF. Those with zinc and titanium dioxide are known to be long-lasting sunscreens. AVAILABLE IN ALL FORMS Apart from gel, water and matte based sunscreens, sunscreens are available in the market in the form of wipes, powders and hypo-allergenic sunblocks. Many cosmetics like foundations, compact powders, bronzers and lip balms also contain SPF. Given that you want that gorgeous tan, but you don’t want to burn your skin in the process, do you? Apply a layer of body lotion on your skin to protect it from being scorched by the sun. This not only protects you against sunburn, it also soothes your skin and prevents it from getting blotchy or dry. Additionally, it eases inflammation and redness if any. PRIMER A make-up primer is a gel applied after a moisturiser and before the foundation. It also helps keep the make-up intact in the sweltering heat. “It’s advisable to use a good primer on the skin before applying any sort of make up, especially in the heat,” says Rhea Soans, hair and beauty expert. “Use a primer that has sunscreen and moisturising agents in it. The benefits go beyond just making your foundation last longer, it also facilitates smooth and flawless skin,” she adds. MOISTURISER In the process of protecting the skin, hair-care tends to take a backseat. To make your hair look its natural, voluminous best — go simple. “For straight hair with a greasy scalp, use a clear shampoo and conditioner. For curly hair, a creamy conditioner is suitable. Also, give your conditioning a break, as the humidity in this sultry climate can dry out those beautiful shiny locks,” adds Soans, hair and skin expert. GLOSS WHEN TO APPLY AND HOW Your lips need some love and care too. Leaving them exposed to the heat will leave the lips dried and parched. Use a good lip-gloss or balm with SPF and keep re-applying it throughout the day. “Drink enough water through the day and apply a lip balm that has moisturizing ingredients like olive oil, lanolin etc,” says Dr Apratim Goel, dermatologist. Apply a sunscreen 15-20 minutes before stepping out in the sun. This allows the sunscreen to soak into your body, thereby protecting you from the UV rays of the sun. Further, it is always best to reapply the sunscreen on the exposed body parts every two hours. Cool gadgets in Hollywood movies that should have been real [email protected] THE MATRIX Programmed Learning Remember the first Matrix movie where Neo is plugged into a program that gives him a crash course in various martial arts, along with a bunch of other cool skills? Using this device, you could in real life, theoretically pick up any new skill by plugging into a matrix-like computer and learning in virtual reality. THE AVENGERS Holographic Displays Also seen briefly in Need For Speed, holographic displays are seen in just a handful of high end car models. While driving, these displays tell you basic things like your current speed, fuel level and an arrow pointing the way for navigation. These work by emitting an image at an angle above the dashboard that you perceive as floating in the air. STAR TREK Teleportation Device MINORITY REPORT 3D Gloves PROMETHEUS - Orbs There were a lot of cool gadgets in the original series as well as the subsequent modern variants of this series. But the teleport device in the original that would often have Captain Kirk saying “Beam me up, Scotty!” Who hasn’t wished that they could teleport to different places at one time or another? One of the most interesting uses of technology in this movie were the floating orbs that the ship’s crew uses when they reach the caverns of a large alien cave. These orbs would fly through hallways and into rooms, all the while recording and mapping everything in real time. INCEPTION Dream Machine The interesting concept behind this movie was the precept of predicting crime before it happened by using the powers of some gifted individuals. But that aside, the really slick glove controls that Tom Cruise used for hand gestures, stood out. If the idea of going into someone’s dream and manipulating the outcome seems too far out to digest, well, Inception was a Hollywood blockbuster based on this complex idea. And the gadget with which this was possible was the PASIV Dream Machine. The idea of controlling someone’s dreams though, does sound a little creepy. Or perhaps you said something that you shouldn’t have to someone and wished that the incident was forgotten? The gadget that the Men In Black agents kept flashing to erase memories of an alien encounter sure would come in handy! STAR WARS - Lightsaber And when it comes to Star Wars, everyone who watched and liked this movie as a kid would have given anything to own a real lightsaber. Although a Jedi weapon, few things looked cooler in that movie than a laser sword that can slice through anything, except another lightsaber, of course. 3 mu HARRY POTTER SERIES WARDEN ROAD ( H.O ) M - 9820134058 //23671772 Address - Chinoy Mansion 1st Floor Warden Road ,Warden Road Opp St Stephens Church Mumba 4 00 036 Our Branches Bandra (W) M - 9322755916 LokhandwalaAndheri (W(WM - 982049 4017 www.compufield.com I www .aonlinetrainin g .com A Arevolutionary concept of gyming where you will get a different workout for your body yevery day. www.wellntrim.com Churchgate: 9930928710• Andheri (W): 65148333 • Delhi:8882021442 The film series is chock-full of gadgets, wands, potions and cloaks that are the stuff of fantasy.
