McHardy, a true diamond expert, with countless years of experience in the field and at cutting facilities around the world, will demonstrate his work with Hearts on Fire, and meet and greet with Tapper’s patrons. McHardy is passionate about the world’s most perfectly cut diamonds. “A Hearts On Fire diamond is born a Hearts On Fire diamond,” says McHardy. “We draw our rough from less than a 10th of 1-­‐percent of the diamonds discovered today. But what really makes a Hearts On Fire diamond special is the cut, which represents at least 50-­‐percent of the value of a diamond,” he says. “We use proprietary technology and digital imaging to produce a diamond that out performs all others,” he continues. “You may compare diamonds of the same size, clarity and color, but if they have different cutting styles, the diamonds will have different price points,” says Mark Tapper, president of Tapper’s Diamonds & Fine Jewelry. “Hearts On Fire is the standard bearer of diamond cutting perfection and provides one of the best values in a diamond today,” he continues. McHardy is a master diamond cutter and Hearts On Fire global trainer with 40 years of diamond cutting experience, who has been associated with Hearts On Fire since the company’s inception in 1996. He is from the distinguished South African McHardy diamond family whose involvement in the diamond trade can be traced back to McHardy’s great-­‐grandfather, William McHardy, the mine manager at the Premier Diamond mine when the 3,106-­‐carat Cullinan diamond was discovered in 1905. The McHardy family’s contributions to the diamond industry were honored when their family home – the company-­‐built McHardy House at the Premier Mine – was opened as a museum in 1986. In 1969, he began an apprenticeship program with Gustav Katz and spent ten years perfecting his skills as a diamond cutter. In 1980 he immigrated to the U.S. to run a diamond cutting facility in Los Angeles, CA, and established the Premier Diamond Cutting Works five years later. One of the largest diamonds McHardy has cut was a 35-­‐carat rough diamond transformed into an 18.5 carat polished gem.
