Book online @ www.stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk | 05 Profile Céline Forrest THREE brings brand new compositions to the world stage – pieces set to become modern classics, each drawing inspiration from different art forms. The Overture is a dynamic alchemy, distilling an exciting new piece from art projects with local school children aged 11-18. Taking inspiration from the painting Mametz Wood by Christopher Williams about the Battle of The Somme, three groups created the melody and developed the musical themes which renowned Welsh composer Gareth Glyn crafted to its finished form. The second piece, Chaotic Angels, is composed by Pwyll ap Siôn. Written for soprano Céline Forrest – who represented Wales in the 2015 BBC Cardiff Singer of The World – it draws on the poetry of the inaugural National Poet of Wales Gwyneth Lewis. Internationally acclaimed composer Jörg Widmann created the final piece, Babylon Suite; drawing influence from his previous 06 | Box Office 029 2087 8444 operatic work, this startling composition has all the hallmarks of an intensely epic piece which is nevertheless accessible with a quality of cinematic grandeur. This is the UK premier of this remarkable work. The number three has often been linked with mystical qualities; numerology connects it to optimism, joy and creativity. In this spirit, it is apt that THREE is the name of the creative collaboration between St David’s Hall, the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, Grafenegg Festival, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Arts Active team and three Cardiff secondary schools with the support of Arts Council Wales. We hope you can join us for what promises to be a landmark event on Sunday 1 May 3.00pm. Tickets are £7.50 – £39.50 plus a Ticket Service Charge of £2.95 per transaction and an optional 95p for tickets to be posted.
