For me, the November meeting will be my last meeting as your president. It has been an honor to be the SLO VETTE President. It’s been a great four years. I thank all my officers who supported me and helped me. Without your assistance, I would have never been able to do it. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I intend to remain very active and support our new president and officers in any way I can. Please attend the November 14 meeting at Players Restaurant in Atascadero and vote for the SLO VETTE 2009 Officers. We have a great slate of dedicated candidates who have stepped up to the plate to serve our club. Come out and support them. Don Al Kirkby will be the official election chairman. Remember this will be the last regular meeting of the year. [email protected] Christmas Toy Drive Once again Brian is organizing our annual toy drive with the California Highway Patrol. He will provide all the details at the next meeting. I do want to urge you to participate as this is a worthwhile drive for the kids in our community. If you have not participated in this event in the past, please do so. You will not regret the day including the super lunch to follow. Brian again thank you for your continued efforts. Keith has never owned a Corvette and has never been to the Museum before. Elfi Duntov Memorial Service The memorial service for Elfi Arkus-Duntov, who passed away on Tuesday evening, October 23, will take place tomorrow (Saturday, November 1) at 10:30 am at the Verheyden Funeral Home in Grosse Point Park, Michigan. NCM team member Betty Hardison will attend the service on behalf of the NCM. Donations in memory of Elfi can be made to the American Cancer Society. New VLE Appointed for Corvette Place Your Order here: Effective November 1st, Eugene (Gene) Stefanyshyn GM’s Global Rear Wheel Drive Vehicle Line Executive, will take over as the new VLE for Corvette. Current VLE Tom Wallace’s official retirement is November 1. Tom has been a tremendous resource to the Museum and our staff and we wish him a wonderful life filled with Corvette fun, family and friends. Gene's duties will include Corvette, Sky, Solstice, Camaro, XLR, and Pontiac G8. He is based at GM Holden, Australia. Gene Stefanyshyn’s background includes stints at the Saab Technical Center in Sweden, and at Opel’s International Technical Development Center, which he says was helpful with regard to working with his international colleagues on the Epsilon variants. He was vehicle line executive (VLE) overseeing the North American "Epsilon" platform models. We look forward to welcoming Gene to the Museum and to the Corvette family. Corvette Racing Celebrates Post-Season Awards Corvette Racing won accolades in the American Le Mans Series award ceremony following the season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan was presented the From the Fans award for the second time, and Mike West, crew chief for the No. 4 Compuware Corvette C6.R, was named GT1 Mechanic of the Year. Jan Magnussen and Johnny O'Connell won the GT1 drivers championship on the strength of eight wins in 11 races with their No. 3 Compuware Corvette C6.R. Chevrolet took home the GT1 manufacturers championship trophy for the eighth straight year, and Corvette Racing claimed its eighth consecutive team championship title. Read more here.
