President’s Corner
August 2012
Welcome to the August Odometer!
I hope you all can come to the August meeting because this is THE meeting where you have a
chance to help build the ballot for your next year’s board.
The nominations are open now, and voting in the September meeting will solidify your choice for
next year’s club officers. Personally, I think this is the most important event of the year. Our thanks go to Kathy
Minister for taking responsibility in managing the list of nominees.
Remember the 50/50 last month?
Without our beloved ‘Senior’ Don ‘Dr. Love’ (etc.) Gordon, to provide the
entertainment, neither do I. GOOD NEWS! He’s back this month! (Hey Don, I know you can live up to this build-up.
I’m sure you will impress us all as you always do.)
As always, events continue to pop up, so keep an eye on the club calendar, and watch for the Google Blasts. See you
August 7th at our normal watering hole. Stay out of the heat when you can, and drive safe!

Shine N Show at Heritage Square
Sunday, September 8, 2013 9:00 a.m.
Nate and Cheryle Derman
This year the Shine n' Show will be held at Heritage Square in Golden, CO. The address is 18301 West Colfax Avenue
Golden, Co. in the lower parking lot. Awards will be given in all Z car divisions. There will also be an award for an
outstanding car that is not a Z. So shine up any and all automobiles that you may want to show off. We would like a big
turnout for this event.
In addition to the awards, a free drawing for good ³stuff² will be held. It is also a good time to show off our club to your
friends and non-member Z car owners. Please bring them as well.
This is a very shiny event with a pot luck picnic lunch. Since this will be held in the parking lot, don't forget to bring
your chairs, umbrellas and sun block. There will be a sign up sheet at the meeting for sandwich fixings, side dishes, and
desserts. For additional information or to sign up to bring food, please contact Cheryle Derman at 720-937-2437. We
look forward to seeing you there.

NOMINATIONS Ballot for
ZCCC Board 2013
Andy Mortenson
Please join us on September 29th for a “Zunday” drive up
to the historic Brook Forest Inn in Evergreen for brunch.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Brook Forest
Inn, the property was homesteaded in 1909 and the
original cabin was built by the first owners. In 1919, new
owners renovated the old cabin which is now the main
portion of the lounge and parlor rooms. They built some
additional structures, planted crops and landscaped the
grounds and they opened the original Brook Forest Inn. In
1925, they began the addition of the dining room annex
with two stories above the main building. Today it is still
an everyday country inn with a full-line, high quality
restaurant and pub.

We’ll meet at 9:30 AM at the Park-n-Ride lot on
Ken Caryl Parkway located just east of C-470. From
there, we’ll take a leisurely cruise to the Brook Forest Inn
via a circuitous, but scenic route provided to me by a
friend in the MG Club. The drive covers 35 miles of
paved country roads and should take about 1.5 hours to
complete. Detailed route instructions will be provided at
the Park-n-Ride prior to departure.

Z-Car Club Fun Run Event
September 14th 2013
a.k.a. Track Day
Darrel Hoffman
It is that time again for our second fun run of the year at High Plains Raceway. This is again sponsored by Boulder
Nissan. Thanks to Jason Purdum and Boulder Nissan the drivers won’t need to work corners and will leave us all with
more track time.
Like last year there will be over night parking Friday night. So if you want to take in the open lapping day on Friday you
can spend the night and be at the track bright and early Saturday morning.
Tech sessions and locations to be announced through the Google Blast.
Let’s get our cars tech’d prior to track day as it will save you and I a lot of time the morning of the event. It is an hour
and fifteen minutes from my house to the track. Take my word for it you will like having tech done early. Besides it is a
long way to the parts store to correct some minor problem.
If you have any questions, please contact Darrel Hoffman (720-273-4385, [email protected] ) or Brian Baumbach
( [email protected] ).
See page 15 for September registration form.

held on October 5th. She also said they were going to
hold a Ghost Haunting on October 26th.
Meeting Minutes
July 3, 2013
Cheryle Derman for Se Lim
Nolan said that the Royal Gorge trip will be on hold.
Old Business:
The meeting was called to order by President, Scott
Guthrie, at 7:03 pm.
There were no new members or guests.
Scott reminded everyone that we have a vacancy for the
position of Club Historian . He said to see him or one of
the other board members if there is interest in the position.
The Minutes of the last meeting were approved as written.
President, Scott Guthrie thanked all of the members that
sponsored events in the past month.
New Business:
Scott asked for help to establish a nomination committee
to find members to fill the President and Secretary
position that will be open on the Board for the next fiscal
year. He stated that we really needed the nominations last
month so that the slate could be presented at the August
meeting and voted on in September. Kathy Minister
volunteered to be on the committee and enlisted Cheryle
Derman to help.
Vice President, Judy Gordon, called upon club members
as follows:
Fred Minister discussed the C.P. Concours D'Elegance car
show.
He said CP raised approximately
$127,000.00. There were 524 cars in attendance.
Kathy Minister gave a recap of the Claws For A Cause
event held at their home. There were 22 people in
attendance. Good food and good times were shared by all.
There was no speaker but Scott did ask for speaker ideas
and also talked about a software developer who would be
interested in speaking to us about an app. he is designing. It was also brought up that we would enjoy having
someone from BG as a speaker again. Ira said he would
contact them to see who the new rep is.
Darrel Hoffman talked about the Fun Run track day. The
club made over $2000.00. There were 46 cars and 49
registrations. The next track day will be held at High
Plains Raceway on September 14th.
50/50
Cheryle Derman talked about the upcoming wine tasting
and barbeque to be held at their home on August 10th. It
will be a potluck and wine sharing.
Mary Lopez donated a Bucket of Scrubs. Nolan Hargrave
won $48 from the 50/50 drawing.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:04 pm.

a single family for 33
years.
Never crashed. Hasn’t been driven since 2001,
but was running when parked; motor turns freely.
A very original non-altered 240Z ready for restoration.
I purchased the car from the 2nd owner and it has
resided in my garage since the 1990"s. I disassembled
hood, fenders, suspension, drive train and some other
parts from the car to begin the restoration. It is very
straight with minimal rust requiring rear wheel arches
and a few spots in the driver’s floorboard / firewall
area. Frame rails and body are solid. It has many brand
new parts including Eibach springs, Tokico shocks, tie
rods, ball joints, suspension bushings, brakes, and
radiator. The original bumpers are in great condition
and the body/frame is solid and straight. Black interior
parts are original and in exceptional condition. If you
are wanting an original 240Z to restore, this is the one
for you. This car can easily be brought back to
drivability for little expense and you could do the
restoration a little at a time.
Good start for a restoration project, 98% complete
car. Limited rust (floor pans OK), Weber 32/36
DGV-5A carburetors, yellow re-paint over

Needed--male pigtail for the regulator from 1971 240 Z for a

Will need about 1 foot of existing wire so the pigtail can be wired

I call it a Z because I

old Z's and put the best
in a non-rusted

Wanted:
Side Mirrors
I need side mirrors for the car. It has never had a passenger side mirror since I bought it, and the driver's side is
showing wear and needs to be replaced. So, I am interested in buying both. While waiting to sell it (I have it listed
in the St Louis Post Dispatch print and online editions as well as on classiccars.com) I want to go ahead and get the
mirrors.
The reason for the St Louis paper is I have moved back to
my home state of Missouri 9 months ago. I lived in Colorado for 28 years, and bought the 280 in Kit Carson, CO -as I said,
in 2008.
To wrap up my story, I'm interested in mirrors for it, and want to
sell it as well. I'm hoping that putting this information in the
odometer will give me some exposure. Maybe someone coming
to the Branson Z-fest might want to meet me and see the car, if
it's still available then. Asking price $6,000. The car is mechanically sound and runs like a deer (98,000 actual miles).

OVER $127,000 RAISED
The results are official...
Dear Fred,
CP of Colorado's Creative Options for Early Childhood Education Centers came away a WINNER at the 30th Annual
Colorado Concours d'Elegance & Exotic Sports Car Show on June 9, 2013!
Over 13,000 individuals came out for a great day filled with excitement, food, fun, entertainment, and to catch a
glimpse of 524 remarkable automobiles!
And the winner is...
Proceeds raised from this spectacular event go to CP of Colorado's Creative Options for Early Childhood Education
Centers. These four centers provide early care, intervention, prevention, support and education services to expectant mothers and nearly 700 infants, toddlers and pre-school children and their families each year. Children receive
developmental screening and assessment services, individualized mental health services and other services tailored
to their diagnosed disability. There continues to be a waiting list for several hundred families.
With your help and support, we can continue to offer and expand these invaluable services to those who wouldn't
otherwise be able to receive them.
Our focus remains...to help children of all abilities be school ready!
Thank you again for your support! We look forward to seeing you next year and together we can make help make a
difference in the lives of those in need!
Sincerely,
Judith I. Ham
