Lakewood Oaks Golf Outing - American Singles Golf Association
CELEBRATING 19 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA
Kansas City Chapter - American Singles Golf Association - September 2012
President’s Note
Well – we dodged a
bullet at Swope Memorial
on August 25! As much
as we need rain, we didn’t
get it that day as predicted
and were able to play a complete round. I
think we all enjoyed the course. That was
the day we were supporting The 1st Tee
and quite a few of us donated gently used
golf equipment. Thanks to all who participated. I’m sure it will be greatly appreciated.
On August 18 and 19, 14 of us went to
Prairie Band Casino and Resort and
played Firekeeper both days. The
weather was absolutely beautiful! We had
a lovely dinner together Saturday night
and some of us gambled afterwards. The
course was varied and interesting, even
though the putting was nearly impossible!
Coming in September, we play Prairie
Highlands on the 15th hosted by Mark
Slator and Alleyne Johnson. Our Branson road trip is the last weekend in September. We will play Payne Stewart and
Ledgestone, and Silo Ridge on the way
home on Sunday.
Also in September, Larry Shockley has
secured tickets to see the KC Royals play
the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday
night, Sept. 19. The seats are in the
lower deck on the 3rd base side and will
cost $15. See Larry for tickets.
We were back at Paddy O’Shay’s in OP
for First Friday on September 7.
Believe it or not, it’s not too early to be
thinking about our annual banquet! Mark
your calendars for Saturday, November
10. It will be at Leawood South Country
Club again this year and will be an
awards banquet. Alleyne has booked a
DJ and Sandy Kolderup is working on all
kinds of surprises for us!
It’s hard to believe our season is winding down. 2 more months and golf season will be over for 2012
Till next month, keep playing and may
the Golf Gods be with you. Keep in mind;
Take Me Out to the Ballgame…
Golf is the perfect thing to do on
Sunday because you end up having to
pray a lot!
September 22nd
Lakewood Oaks member, Toni Tygart,
has set up a golf outing for KCSGA members to play Lakewood Oaks in Lee’s
Summit on Sat, Sept 22nd. Green fees
are $50 and should be paid at the Pro
Shop the day of play. Starting times will
be around 12:30 to 1 PM. If interested,
please e-mail Toni Tygart at [email protected] or phone Toni’s cell,
816.591.0275. Depending on the number
of golfers, dinner following can be either
at the Club, or pizza at Toni’s house.

W&D at Swope Park - Aug 25th
28 golfers gathered for tee times starting at 1:00 PM at Swope Memorial Golf Course, on Saturday, August 25th. With an “iffy” sky
and weather forecast, two (unnamed) opted out, and missed a great afternoon of golf. After a few sprinkles on the first three holes,
the remainder of the afternoon was perfect. Swope Park was challenging as ever. Hole number 13 (when you see if from the regular
men’s tee box, you know why it has that number), was moved forward for the men, to the same tee box for the women at about 149
yards. However, it was made up by the ever difficult 17th hole for the men, with its 200 year carry from the tee box to the fairway. The
17th kind of makes up for the tee shot by providing a beautiful view of the downtown Kansas City skyline from the fairway when approaching the green. Après golf was enjoyed by all at Governor Stumpy’s Grille at 71st and Oak, except Alleyne who got soaked on
her way to the car in the flash rain shower.
Our thanks to hosts, Sue Kariker & Dick Summers for arranging the Swope Park outing.

forward to returning to Falcon Lakes again
next year.
