News You Can Use
Concentrate on
identifying and
improving your own
unique strengths and
skills.
• Track your success.
Keep a log of your
accomplishments, large
and small. Recording
victories on a daily basis
will make you feel more
successful, and looking
over your progress will
boost your self-esteem. In
addition, reviewing your
achievements should
give you some good ideas for what to
work on next.
• Practice being assertive. Take an
active role in pursuing success, no
matter how anxious you feel. Start by
visualizing situations where you feel
nervous, and picture yourself being
assertive. Make these scenarios as
vivid as you can so you’ll be ready
for them in real life. Check your body
language in a mirror, and practice
good posture and a self-assured
expression. Then go out and take a
few chances, starting with low-risk
situations. Once you’ve survived
those, you can move on to bigger
personal challenges. You may be
surprised by how well practice makes
perfect.
How to
develop your
confidence
C
onfidence doesn’t come
naturally to everyone. Even the
most successful people have
struggled with it in their careers. The
good news is that you develop it, just
like any muscle or character trait, if
you’re willing to work hard. The better
news: These tips can help you
strengthen your confidence. Here’s
what to try:
• Don’t compare yourself against
others. Focus on your own
achievements and ambitions, not
anyone else’s. Other people will
always be more successful than you
at different stages of your life and
career, and obsessing about them will
only send your confidence plunging.
Want to Clean Up Your Spring Cleaning?
f you really want to green up your cleanser collection, it’s a pretty easy thing to do. You
just need five ingredients, all of which are affordable and readily available. With this stash
you can clean anything in your home: distilled vinegar and antiseptic essential oil, liquid
soap and detergent, washing soda and baking soda.
Vinegar and essential oils. These ingredients are neutralizers of stains
and odors, they also dissolve scale and help remove the dirt trapped in
wood.Make sure you use white distilled vinegar because apple cider
vinegar can stain some upholsteries. If you need to kill bacteria and
mold then antiseptic essential oils will be a big help. You can
choose from the following list: birch, lavender, cinnamon,
eucalyptus, clove, rose, lemongrass, sweet orange or tea tree.
Liquid soap or detergent. Soap is better for you and the
environment. However, if you use soap to wash your clothes it
can leave a graying film on them. When selecting a detergent,
go for the most biodegradable one available.
Baking soda and washing soda. These are mineral
neutralizers. They can cut grease and dissolve wax. Baking
soda is also mildly abrasive.Washing soda is for heavy duty
jobs, but it can be caustic, so make sure you wear gloves.

I
Eat the right stuff
for a long life
T
he foods you eat can make a big
difference to your heart’s health and
your overall longevity. Fortunately, that
doesn’t mean you can’t eat anything
tasty or fun. Keep your heart in good
shape by choosing these foods the next
time you’re hungry:
• Salmon. Fish like salmon, shrimp,
tuna, and sardines are rich in protein
and omega-3 fatty acids,
which help blood flow.
(Be careful of mercury
levels of tuna, though,
especially for pregnant
or breast-feeding women and
small children).
• Oatmeal. Full of fiber and
potassium (as well as omega-3), coarse
or steel-cut oats (not instant)
can reduce levels of LDL
cholesterol and help
keep arteries clear. Add
a banana for some extra
fiber.
• Nuts and berries. You may feel
like you’re foraging in the wilderness,
but nuts (walnuts, almonds, and
macadamias) along
with blueberries,
blackberries, and
strawberries, can help keep
blood pressure down and reduce your
risk of heart disease and cancer.
• Avocado. Add a little bit to your
sandwich or salad, and you’ll help
lower levels of “bad” cholesterol
and increase the “good”
cholesterol in your
body.
• Beans. Lentils,
chickpeas, kidney beans, black beans—
all are packed with
soluble fiber,
calcium, and
omega-3.
• Dark chocolate.
Don’t go on a binge, but cocoa beans
contain flavanols, which can help lower
blood pressure and decrease
inflammation. Dark chocolate
tends to have more
coca solids, which
increase the
flavanol level.

knowledge to save the President
and prevent an even greater
catastrophe. Morgan Freeman
and Ashley Judd co-star.
Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace in a scene from Dead Man Down.

and powerful wizard—and just
maybe into a better man as
well.
ADMISSION Straight-laced
University admissions officer
Portia Nathan (Tina Fey) is
caught off-guard when she
makes a recruiting visit to an
alternative high school overseen
by her former college
classmate, the free-wheeling
John Pressman (Paul Rudd).
Pressman has surmised that
Jeremiah (Nat Wolff), his gifted
yet very unconventional
student, might well be the son
that Portia secretly gave up for
adoption many years ago. Soon,
Portia finds herself bending the
rules for Jeremiah, putting at
risk the life she thought she
always wanted--but in the
process finding her way to a
surprising and exhilarating life
and romance she never
dreamed of having.
THE SWEENEY Armed and
dangerous, the Sweeney Flying
Squad are old school crime
fighters enforcing the law. Led
by legendary detective Jack
Regan (Ray Winstone) and his
loyal partner, they have their
own unique way of operating
and always get results. With a
bank heist in progress and his
old enemy making a
reappearance on the London
crime scene, Regan will do
whatever it takes to get the job
done, even defying orders from
his no-nonsense boss.
DAY OF THE FALCON In the
1930s, just as oil is being
discovered in Arabia, the rise of
a young, dynamic leader unites
various tribes of the desert
kingdoms, forever shaping the
relationship and conflicts
between oil and Islam,
modernity and tradition, which
have shaped the region for
decades. Mark Strong, Antonio
Banderas and Freida Pinto star.
EMPEROR As General Douglas
MacArthur (Tommy Lee Jones)
suddenly finds himself the de
facto ruler of a foreign nation,
he assigns an expert in
Japanese culture, General
Bonner Fellers (Matthew Fox),
to covertly investigate the
looming question hanging over
the country: should the
Japanese Emperor, worshiped
by his people but accused of
war crimes, be punished or
saved?
THE CALL When veteran 911
operator, Jordan (Halle Berry),
takes a life-altering call from a
teenage girl who has just been
abducted, she realizes that she
must confront a killer from her
past in order to save the girl’s
life.
PHANTOM Ed Harris plays the
captain of a Cold War Soviet
missile submarine who has
recently been suffering from
seizures that alter his
perception of reality. Forced to
leave his wife and daughter, he
is rushed into a classified
mission, where he is haunted by
his past and challenged by a
rogue KGB group (led by David
Duchovny) bent on seizing
control of the ship’s nuclear
missile. With the fate of
humanity in his hands, Harris
discovers he has been chosen
for this mission in the belief he
would fail.
THE INCREDIBLE BURT
WONDERSTONE Magicians
Burt Wonderstone (Steve
Carell) and Anton Marvelton
(Steve Buscemi) have ruled the
Vegas strip for years, raking in
millions. But lately the duo’s
greatest deception is their
public friendship, while secretly
they’ve grown to loathe each
other. Facing cutthroat
competition from guerilla street
magician Steve Gray (Jim
Carrey), whose cult following
surges with each outrageous
stunt, even their show looks
stale. But there’s still a chance
Burt and Anton can save the
act—both onstage and off—if
Burt can get back in touch with
what made him love magic in
the first place.
