On June 3, 2006, many of you joined
us for our Gala Fundraiser where
we shared our dream and vision for
Faith’s Lodge. Almost one year later,
it is with grateful hearts we announce
that construction has been completed
and the dream of creating “a place
where hope grows” for families coping
with the serious illness or loss of a
child has been realized. Now we endeavor to fulfill our mission and know
that in the years ahead, many couples
Susan and Mark Lacek with daughters
and families will find peace, hope and Ally and Emmy.
happiness at Faith’s Lodge.
To come this far, this fast, has been truly incredible and a compliment to
all who have supported us and embraced our dream. Whether you donated
funds, volunteered time, or provided in-kind services or construction materials…please know that you are our heroes and will forever have our respect
and sincere appreciation. We could not have done it without you.
Collectively, we have come a long way and on Saturday, July 21, we invite
you to celebrate with us at the Grand Opening of Faith’s Lodge. It will be
a celebration of the human spirit that exists in all of us and of the ability to
together turn a tragedy into something positive. We know that Faith Ann’s
spirit will be with us that day and we are grateful to all for keeping her name
and memory alive by helping others find hope for the future. We are proud to
have such a wonderful legacy in her honor.
Thank you again for your generous hearts and spirits. How truly remarkable
to discover what a small group of people can do to impact so many.

from the Executive Director
Things have been moving very quickly these past few months. As
the construction of Faith’s Lodge has come together and the plans
for Grand Opening mount, the reality of our endeavor seems
overwhelming at times. The thought that we’ll be serving families
about one year after breaking ground makes us swell with pride.
of the land totals about $1,000,000 in contributions towards the
building, furnishing, outfitting and landscaping of Faith’s Lodge.
Now, we have a goal of paying off the remaining loan balance of
$1.8 million over the next three to five years.
Some might say “Why didn’t you raise the money before you started
building Faith’s Lodge?” The answer is, we couldn’t wait. Too many
families are in need of what Faith’s Lodge has to offer. And sadly,
there will always be more to come.
But then we hear about a couple that’s lost a child or about a
family who has a child struggling with cancer, and we wish that
we were open to serve those people who could really use a place
like Faith’s Lodge right now. The need for Faith’s Lodge hits us in
the face each and every day, and it seems we can’t get the facility
open soon enough.
So we come to you all, again, and ask you to open your hearts and
donate what you can towards the capital campaign to complete and
pay for Faith’s Lodge. Give in memory of loved ones, give in honor
of healthy children, give because you know someone who has
needed a Faith’s Lodge at some time in their life and it wasn’t there
for them. We appreciate your continued generosity and look forward
to celebrating the Grand Opening of Faith’s Lodge on July 21st.
We all took on the challenge to build this remarkable facility,
inspired by Mark and Susan Lacek’s usual fearless approach and
“let’s do it” attitude. We’ve moved forward with hope and energy,
seeking funds and friends at every turn. And now, this spectacular
building is ready to do its work of providing couples and families
with a place to find healing and hope.
However, the challenge of completing the fundraising to pay for
this beautiful building still remains. Your donations, discounts and
donations from our contractors and suppliers, and the donation

Ronald McDonald House Charities Supports Faith’s Lodge
On behalf of the families, staff and Board of Directors of Ronald
McDonald House Charities, Upper Midwest, I would like to
extend our congratulations and joy at the opening of Faith’s Lodge.
Our organization has been standing side by side with Mark and
Susan Lacek for the past two years to help create this legacy for
Faith Ann Lacek and to provide a lodge and retreat for families
who have seriously ill children or who have had a child pass away.
We are proud to be providing our expertise and financial support
for the family programming at Faith’s Lodge. The name of the
Ronald McDonald House of the Twin Cities is well known to the
communities of the Upper Midwest, but few people realize that we
extend our services and support “beyond our doors.” In addition to
operating the Ronald McDonald House of the Twin Cities, we also
provide outreach in the form of financial support for programs that
help families to live with a child’s serious illness. Never underestimate
the importance of providing opportunities for these families to
enjoy a vacation, create memories and meet other people who
can sustain them during difficult times. Faith’s Lodge is almost
a “Ronald McDonald House in the Woods” and we
know that families will find peace, comfort and
joy while visiting Faith’s Lodge.

Ronald McDonald House of the Twin Cities

Faith’s Lodge Welcomes Evelyn Nyberg as Manager of Lodge Operations
Evelyn Nyberg, our new Manager
of Lodge Operations.
With nearly 30 years in the
hospitality industry, Evelyn
(Evy) Nyberg certainly knows
how to make guests feel comfortable. As the new Manager
of Lodge Operations at Faith’s
Lodge, Evy will be doing just
that. In addition to overseeing
the day-to-day operations and
maintenance of the Lodge and
organizing volunteers, Evy says
her primary responsibility will
be to “ensure that our guests
have everything they need so
they can have a peaceful place
to regroup.”
“Mark and I are thrilled that Evy has joined the Faith’s Lodge
team,” said Susan Lacek. “She is just the perfect person for this
position. Her interpersonal skills are wonderful which should
really help to put our guests at ease. She also has deep connections
in the community, which will be especially helpful in recruiting
volunteers for the Lodge.”
Most recently Evy has served as Manager at The Lodge at Crooked
Lake in Siren, Wis. Prior to moving to Webster, Wis., with her
husband Jim and three children, Evy was a hospitality director at
the Calhoun Beach Club in Minneapolis.
“I’m happy to be part of something like this,” said Evy, “because
there’s nothing else like it for families who need support and a
place to just get away.”

Lend a Helping Hand: Volunteer Opportunities
Following our July Grand Opening, Faith’s Lodge will open its
doors to welcome families who are facing the serious illness of a
child as well as those who have suffered the loss of a child. The
Lodge will provide couples and families who are coping with
these difficult and stressful situations a much needed opportunity
to escape the demands of everyday activities and just relax for a
while, refreshing their minds and spirit.
As we begin preparations for welcoming these couples and
families, we realize that providing top quality service will only be
enhanced by volunteer support. However, since time is a precious
commodity for everyone, we’ve created many different ways you
can share your skills. Whether you are an individual or part of
a group, are seeking an ongoing commitment or organizing a
community drive, your efforts can truly make a difference.
Immediate opportunities to assist at the facility include helping
with trail creation and maintenance, gardening, cataloging the
library, and readying The Lodge for incoming guests. We also are
interested in partnering with those who may be able to share a
skill or a service such as leading a guided nature hike or providing
a fishing or boating trip. In the coming months, additional
opportunities will be available to provide home-cooked meals for
the guests, assist with office and administrative duties, and help
with leisure time activities. For those people who don’t live or work
near Faith’s Lodge, but still want to help, we will be developing
opportunities to prepare meals through “Let’s Dish” or other meal
preparation services that will fill our freezer with home-cooked
meals. We’re also looking for groups throughout the state to organize
book drives for our Library. Visit our web site for more details.
All volunteers interested in making an ongoing commitment will
be required to complete an application, screening process and
orientation. Our volunteer application form is available on our
website at www.faithslodge.org or by mail. If you would like to
have an application sent to you or have questions about volunteering,
please call our office at 612-825-2073. We appreciate your interest
in helping us create an environment and experience that provides
an opportunity for our guests to relax and reconnect.

Thank you to our Donors
Faith’s Lodge would not be the reality it is today without the support of our donors – many of whom started
on this journey when Faith’s Lodge was just an idea. As we unveil this amazing respite for families, we want

For your faith in Faith’s Lodge, we thank you.

Spending Time at Faith’s Lodge:
The Guest Experience
We realize that different experiences will bring couples and families to Faith’s Lodge.
For that reason, programming has been designed that allows couples and families to be
present with others, yet participate in a way that meets their needs. Guests may check-in
Tuesday through Saturday, depending on their desired length of stay, and will have the
option of selecting between two different types of programming. Specifically, there will
be weeks that offer scheduled activities as well as more informal weeks where the only
schedule that exists is the one the guests create for themselves.
