The Oklahoma Desi - India Association of Greater Tulsa
The Oklahoma Desi Volume III, Issue 1, January 2007 From the President’s Desk … Dear IAGT Patrons: As I look ahead, I find myself reflecting on how to advance the mission and interests of the India Association of Greater Tulsa (IAGT) and its members while building on the achievements of the past few years. Your new committee has already met several times to outline a plan for the year 2007 and we have chosen to make this year one of appreciation, collaboration and integration. In the last two years, during which I have been closely associated with the India Association of Greater Tulsa as an executive committee member, I have seen it raise the bar from one event to the next and from one year to the next. This has only been possible because of the support from all members, the time and efforts of some very dedicated volunteers, the generosity of several sponsors, and a lot of hard work by the executive committee members. I truly appreciate all of you for your service and support. This year, we will continue with our focus on collaboration among various Indian organizations, promotion of a better understanding of Indian culture among other local communities and advancement of the causes of our members. Some of our specific plans include providing different flavors to the events organized by IAGT, introducing a games and sports program, and celebrating “Utsav – India Fest” at a larger scale to commemorate India’s 60th year of Independence. IAGT is a completely voluntary organization and I have faith that I can count on your continued support for the success of our organization. I encourage you to sign up for our mailing list and e-mail list, become a member by paying membership dues, become a volunteer, and sponsor our mailings and events. I welcome your suggestions and feedback. Please visit our new and enhanced Website at www.iagtok.org, send an e-mail to [email protected], or call us at (918) 615-2383. Sincerely, Ajay Ray, President, IAGT–2007 Welcome to the Third Year of the Oklahoma Desi! Diwali Cultural Program, Thoreau Academy Auditorium, 7370 E 71st St, Tulsa New Years Eve Party Please visit IAGT Website www.iagtok.org prior to event date for updates and changes DESI DHAMAKA — NEW YEARS EVE BASH While the beginning of 2006 was truly delightful with our first event, “Delight in India”, we ended this year with a Bang – with the Desi Dhamaka New Year’s Party! Attendance was in record numbers – we had over 260 people at the party. A good time was had by all, children and adults alike. There was plenty of delicious food catered by India Palace, and soft drinks and champagne were on the house. Good food, loud and fast paced music, a very engaging DJ Russ, an overflowing Dance floor, and a very busy cash bar – what more could we have asked for? Kids had a great time while their parents got to enjoy the party. The Kids’ room was a huge hit with cookie decorating, face painting, crafts, pizza, and movie time. We got a lot of positive feedback from the crowd. Our thanks to Kalpesh Desai and Clarion Hotel for the location and their willingness to work with us on all our needs; India Palace, as always, for providing us with food at a substantially reduced cost; DJ Russell Kabir, for coming all the way from Dallas; and of course, our multitude of volunteers and committee members who worked very hard to make this event a very successful one.
