Romantic Comedy SUMMERTIME (LA BELLE SAISON) DIRECTOR: CATHERINE CORSINI 105 Minutes 2015 France There's little chance, in 1971, that Carole, a Spanish teacher and feminist militant in Paris, would ever meet Delphine, the daughter of a couple of Limousin farmers. DRESSED AS A GIRL DIRECTOR: 98 Minutes UK director Colin Rothbart in his feature film debut rips off the wigs and wipes away the mascara to find the real people behind the figureheads of East London’s much-hyped alternative drag scene. Following in the tradition of Paris Is Burning and The Cockettes, the film paints a compelling London portrait that pulls audiences beyond the performances into a mesmerising and previously inaccessible underworld. UK director Colin Rothbart in his feature film debut rips off the wigs and wipes away the mascara to find the real people behind the figureheads of East London’s much-hyped alternative drag scene. BALLS DIRECTOR: 51 Minutes NICKOLAOS STAGIAS 2016 Canada A documentary about the body part most associated with manhood and what happens when that's taken away. Our society imbues a man's testicles with the constructs of masculinity, sexuality, virility and overall male-hood. So what happens when a man is faced with losing one or both? There are four main incidents that can lead a man to be faced with the removal of a ball - testicular cancer, torsion, an infection, or gender reassignment. Replace or not replace, options of replacements, dating and disclosure, parenthood possibilities, and likely most importantly the psychology surrounding moving forward without feeling emasculated make Balls well rounded, talk-worthy, and shareable. Curiously there is a disproportionate percentage of men working in gay porn who identify as straight. Why would a straight man do gay porn? What motivates him to try this or make a career of it? Why is there such keen interest and debate into the sexuality and personal lives of these men? And what does it say about us, the viewer that so much of gay porn is dominated by images of straight men? Are there shades of internalized homophobia emerging? Why might we be turned off if the man on screen looks, sounds, or behaves in a way that is identifiably queer? To try answer some of these questions we interviewed men from some of the most popular and prolific studios which fetishize straight men. Thu 25/08 @ 19:00* Feature Documentary Screens *immediately after the World Premiere screening of documentary Balls (51 Mins) Canada The subjects of the film BEFORE YOU KNOW IT are no ordinary senior citizens.
