Delivering effective IT support with a longtime partner Customer profile Fast food chain Habib’s expands its infrastructure and supports continuing growth by relying on Dell technologies and services Company Habib’s Industry Food Service Country Brazil Employees 30,000 Website habibs.com.br Business need Habib’s, the world’s largest fast food chain specializing in Arab food, needed to assemble an IT infrastructure that would support its continued growth. Solution The company is building a flexible, secure and efficient infrastructure by deploying Dell server, storage, networking and security solutions and by relying on Dell services and support. Benefits • S tandardization of data center equipment • Single point of contact for support, implementation and maintenance • Centralized hardware management • Support for innovation Solutions at a glance • Client Solutions • Consulting and Systems “Our data centers are 100 percent Dell. We only have what Dell sells.” Renan Campoy, Infrastructure and IT Manager, Habib’s Integration • Data Center • Data Protection • Network Security Habib’s is currently the world’s largest fast food chain specializing in Arabic food and the largest national fast food chain in Brazil. The company opened its first store in São Paulo in 1988, and today Habib’s has more than 400 restaurants throughout Brazil. In the past few years, the chain’s annual revenues have exceeded R$1 billion. Growth with strong IT support and a reliable partner Habib’s now has two data centers — in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The company’s infrastructure and IT manager, Renan Campoy, says that Dell has been instrumental in helping his team support the business. “We have worked with Dell now for five years on many projects, and this partnership has been fundamental for us.” For example, in 2011 Habib’s performed a technology refresh of the São Paulo data center that included virtualizing the company’s servers. A new data center and standardized technology Two years later, Habib’s built its Nova Central branch data center in Rio de Janeiro. The new office was equipped with Dell OptiPlex desktops and Dell Vostro notebooks. The data center environment was all built on the Dell platform, from the switches to the WiFi network. It included Dell PowerEdge R420 and R520 servers, Dell 42U rack enclosures, and Dell Storage PS Series storage arrays. Dell licensed VMware vSphere and Microsoft software to Habib’s, and it also carried out the implementation services. “Starting in 2013 we began deploying Dell equipment — servers, network and firewall — in our restaurants”, said Campoy. Upgrading backup, networking and security In 2015, Habib’s undertook three more projects with Dell’s help. The first was the implementation of a new backup solution necessitated by the growth in network data volume from gigabytes to terabytes. Habib’s IT team implemented Dell DR4100 disk backup appliance. “The new solution has simplified our backup process and today we no longer have to manage tapes,” Campoy says. In March 2015, Habib’s restructured its corporate network environment in São Paulo. The company replaced its core and access switches with Dell Networking S4810, N2048 and N3048 switches. Once again, all implementation services were provided by Dell’s team. In August 2015, Habib’s and Dell started deploying SonicWALL firewalls to help strengthen the connection between the company’s restaurants and corporate offices. For the restaurants, they chose SonicWALL SOHO TZ105 and for the office NSA 5600. Campoy says that SonicWALL firewalls are now set up in both of the company’s data centers. “This year we also began the implementation in restaurants. By the end of 2016, we will have 450 restaurants with SonicWALL firewalls and Dell switches.” Habib’s also upgraded its São Paulo data center’s storage capabilities with a Dell Storage SC9000 Array Controller backed by Copilot support services in June 2016. This top-of-the-line storage solution from Dell features 246 terabytes of hybrid SSD/HHD capacity. It provides tremendous scalability to support anticipated future growth in its data management requirements. It also offers enhanced virtualization features, as most of Habib’s applications are virtualized. Today, Habib’s entire infrastructure is based on Dell equipment and technology. “Our data centers are 100 percent Dell,” Campoy says. “We only have what Dell sells.” Critical management and support for innovation Campoy’s team also uses the Dell OpenManage Essentials solution to manage its servers. “The solution monitors licenses and warranty end dates,” he says. “Also, there are no bureaucratic processes, which was one of the reasons we decided to migrate our network to Dell.” His team’s ultimate goal is to standardize the IT environment with all the technology that Dell can support. “The great benefit that Dell offers is its mission-critical support. In all the years of our partnership Dell has not exceeded a single SLA.” In addition, the partnership has helped stimulate innovation. “Dell’s combination of understanding our problems, offering good advice and providing the best solution is something unique in the market.” View all Dell case studies at Dell.com/CustomerStories 2 Dell, the Dell logo, OpenManage, OptiPlex, PowerEdge, SonicWALL and Vostro are trademarks of Dell Inc.
