Meeting of the Hoosier Heartland Industrial Corridor, Inc. (HHIC). This year’s annual meeting will be hosted by the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce at the
Habecker Dining Commons on the campus
of Huntington University in Huntington,
Indiana. Plans for the completion of the
Hoosier Heartland Highway in the Huntington County area will be discussed.
The luncheon meeting will be held from
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In addition to Senator Dan Coats, Larry Ingraham with the

First Farmers Bank and Trust
holds groundbreaking September 24
First Farmers Bank & Trust held a public ground breaking ceremony for their
newest location in Huntington at 244
Hauenstein Road at 9:00 a.m. Friday,
September 24. The Huntington County
Chamber of Commerce and Huntington
County United Economic Development,
as well as First Farmers Bank & Trust
staff and officers, were present at the
ceremony.
The branch location is scheduled to be
completed during the first quarter of
2011 and is being constructed by Felderman Design Build from Ft. Wayne. The
building will be approximately 2,600
square feet with two drive-up lanes, an
ATM, and will house five to six employees. Similar to the other First Farmers
locations, the newly constructed Huntington office will offer full service banking for Huntington area residents.
“We’re excited to be able to offer new
FFBT services to our customers and
Huntington residents. We hope it shows
that we plan to become a bigger part of
this community,” stated Mark Wolf, Senior Vice President.
Construction on the Hoosier Heartland
Highway is continuing at a record pace.
The highway - the dream of local civic
leaders from Wabash, Indiana - is now under construction throughout the entire
length of the corridor, which today runs
from Lafayette, Indiana, to Toledo, Ohio.
Today, the Heartland Highway is designated by Congress as Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) High Priority Corridor 4. Segments of this bi-state Corridor
are either under construction or have been
completed. For over two decades, the political leadership of the Wabash Valley has
worked toward the goal of completing the
Corridor.
This year’s Hoosier Heartland Highway
Industrial Corridor, Inc.’s Annual Meeting
is being chaired by Steve Kimmel, Executive Director of the Huntington County
Chamber of Commerce. Individuals interested in attending the annual meeting can
contact the Huntington County Chamber of
Commerce at 356-5300 or visit the website: www.huntingtoncountychamber.com.

The Meat Shop to celebrate
ten years of business in October
Kevin and Cindy Prus will celebrate ten
years of business at The Meat Shop in October. Located at 1453 Etna Avenue, The
Meat Shop specializes in USDA choice cut
meats.
The Prus’s began the business with customer service in mind after Kevin had
spent 22 years with Marsh Supermarket,
managing the meat department for ten
years. They wanted their customers to have
top-quality meats to select from, all of
United States origin, that were not prepackaged. This enables The Meat Shop
customer to order their own quantity from
large to small in various cuts.
The smoked meat at The Meat Shop
comes from Ossian Packaging and beef,
pork, and chicken is purchased from Troyers’ of Goshen. The store also offers ham
loaf made in-house, hand breaded tenderloins, and its own special jerky and summer sausage. Seasonings, frozen fish, noodles, buns, pastries, cheeses, salads, and
much more are available to complete any
meal.
Nick’s Kitchen and The Brick House
Grill utilize The Meat Shop for meats for
their customers. Nick’s famous tenderloins
get their start with the Prus’s and are then
prepared in the restaurant.
Kevin and Cindy enjoy working with
people and commented that Huntington
has been good to them and their family.
They feel that they have a personal relationship with all of the customers and that
is the way they like to do business.
The Meat Shop currently has five employees with most of them being family.
Kevin commented, “Our business is a family affair,” and credits its success to good
employees. Kevin further said, “It is hard
to run a business without good employees,
my employees are my greatest asset.”
The Meat Shop appreciates its loyal customers and the business has grown every
year since it opened. Kevin and Cindy control expenses and monitor costs to provide
the best service to all customers.
Kevin likes to joke that The Meat Shop
was Cindy’s gift to him on their 22nd wedding anniversary. In celebration of the ten
year anniversary and their 32nd wedding
anniversary, Kevin and Cindy believe its
time to finally have a grand opening also.
Kevin and Cindy Prus stand in front of their business, The Meat Shop, located at 1453
Etna Avenue. The Prus’s are celebrating ten years in business in October.
When The Meat Shop began in 2000, the
Prus’s were so busy they “just went to
work,” and never had a grand opening.
Kevin commented that it is time to celebrate and during the two week anniversary
celebration, The Meat Shop just may have
that grand opening and will be offering
some meat specials and some surprises for
their customers.
