2 0 1 0 CA L E N DA R Southern Alberta Rottweiler Rescue Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... A testament to his marvelous temperament, Riley was never aggressive towards the children for their poor behavior. Riley was adopted by a family in rural Central Alberta and is enjoying the love and adoration of them and their children. It was determined that Bishop was born without an optic nerve, meaning he was blind since birth, so it was nothing short of a miracle that he survived on his own for any length of time. Bishop was adopted by a Calgary family and Bishop was recently certified as a therapy dog with the Pet Access League Society (PALs). SARR is very proud to have three of our past foster dogs working as certified therapy dogs! We are unsure if Leela was born with only one eye or if losing her eye was the result of a traumatic injury. Once SARR's vet stitched up the area where her right eye would normally be, Leela was ready to find her forever family. Leela found her family in Calgary and was thrilled to learn it was complete with another Rottie and her new best friends Cade and Kyra. Laci's accident was completely avoidable and the result of her owner's negligence; they were camping and set off fireworks which scared Laci and caused her to become entangled in the tent's ropes which broke her leg. Laci's story has a happy ending - after having surgery to fix her leg and spending two months in foster care undergoing physiotherapy; she was adopted by a Calgary family where she is now the center of attention. Duke (2 years) is a long haired Rottweiler - which is a recessive gene in the breed. Duke came to SARR when his owners were expanding their human family and didn't want him anymore. Their loss was SARR's gain! This lovable, quirky fellow made himself right at home with his foster family - quite literally and was adopted by them in Spring 2009. Our vets describe poor Rosie as having had a "very hard life". She was very arthritic, quite skinny and had some medical issues when she first arrived in rescue; but none of that interfered with her fantastic spirit. Due to Rosie's age and condition, she is living out her life in permanent foster care with her SARR foster home where she is thoroughly enjoying her twilight years. Laila's previous "owners" were threatening to shoot Laila because she kept trying to get into the house to eat the food. There were 9 very good reasons why Laila was trying to get into the house to eat some food............her 9 puppies were living under the front porch of their house!! At the time of this publication, all of Laila's puppies have been adopted but Laila is still in foster care and looking for a forever home of her very own to have adventures with.
