Girl Scout Camp!
We know it can be hard to send her to camp - especially for the first time. But you can feel at ease that
while she’s having the time of her life discovering the wonders of the great outdoors, trying new things,
and making friends, she is well taken care of, happy and learning critical life skills every step of the way.
The Proof is in the Research.
At Girl Scouts, we are moving at the speed of girls. This means we are constantly seeking new ways to
provide girls experiences that are meaningful and relevant to them in 2016. And, for over a century,
the outdoors has been a cornerstone of Girl Scouting. Our research shows that outdoor exposure is
beneficial for girls. Our outdoor programs are developed by Girl Scout professionals to help girls explore
leadership, build skills, develop a deep appreciation for nature all while building friendships...and, of
course, all while having fun!
So much more than S’mores.
When she comes to camp this summer, she is going to do cool new stuff. According to a Girl Scout survey,
72% of girls said that Girl Scouts gave them the chance to build their skills or try new outdoor activities.
The research also shows spending time in nature improves concentration and creative reasoning.
Outdoor experiences also help promote healthy social development and increase her self-esteem.
This summer, help her experience all Girl Scouting has to offer. Invest in her future. Send her to Girl

Resident camp is where girls learn to appreciate the great
outdoors away from the distractions of everyday life,
including technology!
RESIDENT CAMP is a sleep-away
opportunity for girls to build independence, character
and friendship.
Badgerland resident camp programs are held at camps
Black Hawk and Ehawee. Black Hawk hosts older girls,
while younger campers in grades K-5 go to Camp
Ehawee. There’s also an awesome “bridging” camp
just for 5th and 6th graders to experience both camps
Ehawee and Black Hawk. Resident camp programs are
listed on pages 10-19.
Girls sign up to attend camp individually; it is not a troop
event. But, remember, she can also attend overnight
camp with her troop at Troop Camps (page 26) or even
with mom or dad at Family Camps (page 24).
Girls choose a camp session based on their interest
and the grade they’ll be entering in the fall. All the girls in
a program sleep in the same living unit. Resident camp
sessions vary in length depending upon the age-level
and the program. Each group can range from 5-24 girls
with 2-4 adult camp staff assigned to the program, living
in the unit with the girls. All camp staff spend ten days
training before camp to keep our Girl Scouts healthy and
safe, and to make sure everyone is having a great time at
camp.

acres near Antigo in northern Wisconsin’s Langlade
County.
Campers live in a bunkhouse, cabins or platform
tents with girls from their program group. Each unit
has its own fire ring, unit house and bathroom with
flush toilets.
Campers live in platform tents with other girls in their
program. The living area includes a campfire ring and
a screened-in shelter with a latrine (we call these La
La’s!). Flush toilets are available around camp.
Camp Ehawee (pronounced e-how-e) is home to
a swimming pool, archery range and athletic fields
including volleyball and basketball courts. Ehawee
campers canoe on a tributary to the Black River and
creek hop at Crystal Creek. There are nature trails
for exploring and the amphitheater where the entire
camp gathers for the traditional Girl Scout’s Own
Ceremony. Camp also features a performing arts
center with a stage and indoor nature center. Meals
are eaten in Hope Lodge.
The camp has a high ropes course, climbing wall,
archery range and an adventure barn. Black Hawk has
two gorgeous lakes for swimming , paddle boarding,
boating and fishing.

There are nature trails for hiking and biking, an arts
and craft house and a nature center. Most meals are
eaten in the dining hall, but girls will have the chance
to cook over a campfire too.
WHERE GIRLS SLEEP
Platform Tent @ Camp Black Hawk
Camp is rustic. Girls stay in platform tents or cabins with other
girls who have signed up for the same camp session. Each
resident camp has a central shower house.
Platform tents are heavy canvas structures with wooden floors
and four beds. Open flaps allow for light and ventilation.
Cabins have lights, screened windows and bunk beds.
CAMP STAFF
Our staff members go through an intense screening, selection
and training process. Many staff members are aspiring or
current teachers and outdoor educators. A big percentage of
our camp staff are former Girl Scout campers!
Staff members do not always stay in the same sleeping
quarters as campers. Instead, counselor quarters are near the
center of the unit, where they can monitor the entire group
easily. At night, camp counselors check on girls to make sure
that they are settling down well. Often they’ll read stories or
sing them to sleep. Staff members will always be within earshot,
and respond immediately if needed.

Build confidence by tackling the Ehawee challenge. Working with
your ‘team,’ you’ll prepare for the giant swing at the UW-La Crosse
ropes course, hike into the woods for survival training and explore
one of the top caves in the United States. Push your limits and you
will leave camp with more confidence—and friends, too!

Experience BOTH camps Ehawee and Black Hawk
in the same week! Enjoy all your favorite activities
at Camp Ehawee, then head to Camp Black Hawk
to try out the ropes course, go for a bog walk and
spend time on the two lakes. Return to Camp
Ehawee to complete a memorable week with the

the family at Ehawee. Come hike the Friendship Loop, paddle
canoes, practice archery, swim in the pool and wade through

is a private cabin that sleeps up to ten, with a central unit

This is the real deal! Get a behind-the-scenes look at running
camp and how all the pieces fit together. Spend your first weeks
at Black Hawk rotating and training through specialty areas. Then
travel to other camps and learn about family programming. In your
final weeks, you will be assigned to a resident camping group at
Ehawee where you will put all of your leadership skills to the test
working directly with younger campers.

At Counselor-In-Training, you learn to teach songs, lead
activities and create a safe space for campers. Start at Black
Hawk to train with the other Leadership campers and tour

How to Register
We have a BRAND NEW Online Registration System
Here’s how:
1. Visit gsbadgerland.org and click any Camp or Activities links to browse the programs.
2. Find which program(s) your camper wants to attend.
3. Click on the program to start registration.
4. Submit your registration along with applicable payment.
• Pay full amount or a deposit. Make additional payments into your account any
time by logging in and paying on the balance due.
• If registering before your Badgerland Bucks are in hand, submit the Badgerland
Bucks reimbursement form at gsbadgerland.org, or turn in as payment towards the
balance when your receive them.
Or Register with the Paper Form on Pages 33-34
Here’s how:
1. Complete and sign the form. If your camper is not currently registered for the 2016 Girl Scout year,
include the additional $25 membership dues. Not sure if she’s registered? Ask us! 800.236.2710
2. Prior to June 1, register with full payment or a deposit. The full balance is due three weeks before
her camp starts.
3. Include the Badgerland Bucks certificate number and the amount you plan to use with your form.
If you don’t have the BB yet, follow the directions in your Badgerland Bucks letter and submit later.
Deposit must be paid to complete registration.

Payment is easy!
Here’s what and when
you need to pay when you register.
1. Complete payment or a deposit:
- $100 non-refundable deposit for programs $200+
- $50 non-refundable deposit for programs $100$199
- Full payment for programs $99 and lower.
2. $25 GS member dues (if not a current Girl Scout)
3. Remaining balance is due three weeks prior to camp
attendance or registration is subject to cancellation
and camper cannot attend the session.
Running a resident camp is costly. But we believe these overnight
programs are important to the Girl Scouting experience, and that’s
why they are currently subsidized by Badgerland Council. Put simply,
the cost of operating the camp program is greater than the amount
paid by campers who attend. That’s where the tiered pricing system
fits in; it allows families the choice to help cover the actual cost of
resident camp if they are financially able. Tiered pricing is voluntary
and in no way influences the experience girls receive. Tiered pricing
does offer families the opportunity to support the true cost of their
Girl Scout’s camp experience.
Tier A reflects the actual cost of operating the program
including all support staff, supplies, maintenance of buildings
and grounds and facility upgrades. Tier B covers approximately
85% of the actual cost and is for those who can pay more but not
the full fee. Tier C is the lowest price and covers approximately
70% of the actual cost of operating camp programs.

Financial Assistance-Camperships
Girls are strongly encouraged to earn all or part of their way to camp through cookie and ‘in a nutshell’ sales. If you cannot afford Tier C pricing and need
to supplement Badgerland Bucks and out-of-pocket costs, a Badgerland Campership may be available. Learn more and download the application at
gsbadgerland.org or by calling 800.236.2710. The deadline to submit a Campership application is April 5.
Refunds
Program registration deposits are non-refundable unless the program is canceled. The remaining balance of the camp fees will be refunded only if:
1.
A written request is received from the parent/guardian at least three weeks prior to the camp session.
2. Illness or critical family emergency occurred and a cancellation call was made and message left with Badgerland (800.236.2710) prior to the start of
the session. In case of illness, a written refund request (including a statement from the attending physician) must be received within one week.
3. Other requests for refunds due to extraordinary circumstances will be considered at the discretion of the CEO.
4. Full fees, including deposit, will be refunded in the unlikely event the program is canceled.
Note: Campers who leave camp early due to homesickness, parental request, or Code of Conduct violations are not eligible for refunds.
Paying with Badgerland Bucks
Badgerland Bucks earned through the Cookie Program will be mailed directly to girls in April.
Girls earn Badgerland Bucks through the Girl Scout Cookie and ‘in a nutshell’ programs. Badgerland Bucks (BB) can be applied to help pay for summer
camp fees and to purchase goodies at the camp trading post. If BB are applied to the non-refundable registration fee, they are non-refundable in that
amount in the event of a personal cancellation (see Refund Information above). If your camper has not received her BB at the time of registration or if you
have registered online with the registration deposit, complete and submit the BB with the Badgerland Bucks Reimbursement Form at gsbadgerland.org
(click forms). Note: Badgerland Bucks Reimbursement Form need only be submitted if you paid in advance and require reimbursement.
Buddy Requests
Girls may request up to three buddies and we will do our best to make sure that they are able to be placed together in the same tent, cabin
or group (at a day program). Buddies must be attending the same week session and the same camp program. Buddy requests can be
made in CampDoc - see below for details.

1 ) Registration Confirmation
Once you’re registered and in our system, you will receive an automated confirmation email to the address you listed. Within
48 hours, you will receive an email from Badgerland Camps with links to camp information packets, required paperwork, and
more essential camp news. Even if you register using the paper form, you will receive this email once your registration is in our
system! Look for it and open it!
2 ) CampDoc.com - Electronic Camper Information System
About one week after registration confirmation, you will receive an email from CampDoc.com. This is our online information
system for all important Badgerland Camps’ camper information including health records and other forms. This information
must be completed no less than three weeks prior to program attendance. CampHERO campers must complete all
CampDoc info by June 15. Note: Some Badgerland programs do not require completion of CampDoc.com information, thus
you may not receive the CampDoc notification. Programs requiring a different process will be notified directly by Badgerland
after registration.
Very Important Reminder: Complete your CampDoc.com camper info three weeks before heading to camp.
3 ) Information Packets
Read your camp’s Information Packet as soon as it is available. These packets, written especially for your Girl Scout’s camp,
contain camp information exclusive to your campers’ experience, including the Trading Post Credit Card Authorization Form.
Information packets for CampHERO, Camp Black Hawk and Camp Ehawee are available February 26. Camp S’more day
campers, your event details will be emailed two weeks prior to the program.

The registration deposit is non-refundable. The balance of the camp fees will be refunded only if: (1) A written request is received from the parent/
guardian at least three weeks prior to the camp program session. (2) Refunds may be made for illness or critical family emergency provided a
cancellation call was made and a message left prior to the session starting. In case of illness, a written refund request with a statement from the

SAFETY AT GIRL SCOUT CAMP
OUR FIRST PRIORITY
The health and safety of campers attending Badgerland Camps is our utmost concern. We are dedicated to
creating a safe environment for your camper to enjoy a great camp experience. We are constantly assessing and
enhancing our training and safety standards in our commitment to provide a safe camping experience.
Resident camp staff attend a mandatory minimum of 10 full days of on-site training prior to camper arrival, that
includes CPR & First Aid, emergency response procedures and drills, and effective and appropriate behavioral
management techniques.
Specialized program staff members (lifeguards, adventure staff, etc.) participate in specific safety training for
that program area.
All adventure trips have a staff member trained in Wilderness First Aid who accompanies the trip.
All staff members are fully reference and background checked prior to hiring.
All staff members who drive campers are over 21 years of age, and are trained to drive the 12 passenger vans as
well as submit to a check of their driving record.
Camp and Girl Scout office staff constantly monitor weather. If severe weather occurs, we take immediate
action to mitigate danger to the campers.
Girl Scouts of Wisconsin - Badgerland camps comply with GSUSA standards, as well as state and local community
health codes.
Both resident camps, Camp Black Hawk and Camp Ehawee are accredited through
the American Camp Association. Every three years our resident camps undergo an
extensive review of operations, encompassing 300 standards, ACA accreditation is
earned only after successfully meeting ACA’s high standards. The strict requirements
necessary to earn accreditation are recognized nationally and are often equal to, or
stronger than, those from local or state officials.
