July 2014 - Woodrun
1 Volume 6 Issue 7 July 2014 Woodrun Community News Don’t Miss the Fireworks & Band! After the cold of winter, no one complains about the heat of summer. June’s temperatures tested us all, though. Many days, the best place to be was the pool; forecasters are predicting a HOT summer – and we’re just getting into the really hot months. We’ll all be seeing 90’s a whole lot in the near future. The Social calendar in June included two events, both geared to the Woodrun children. Two afternoons were declared Kids’ Game Days; on the first day, the theme was Summer Games & Crafts, the second themed day was Let’s Bake Cookies. On July 10, the kids will enjoy Tye-Dye Fun. Look for details on the signs! The Neighbors group will not get together in July; the next meeting will be the second Tuesday of August, the 12th. Independence Day is Friday, July 4. Have a great holiday with your family and friends. How lucky we are to live in this country, free of the constant conflict in so many places in the world! The Woodrun Fireworks will be on Saturday night, July 5, starting about 9 p.m. If you’ve never seen this show, you need to be there. It’s spectacular! The Clubhouse grounds will be packed with members and their guests and the lake will be packed with boats full of people from up and down the river, including our members. There will also be a band, Bill Brady & the Tarheel Rhythm Band at the festivities. Again, check the sign at the Guardhouse for details. A last note about the fireworks: The fireworks are breathtaking, but after the show is over, watch the lake: total darkness on the water, except for the running lights of hundreds of boats heading home. Beautiful. Woodrun condolences are sent to Suzanne Parrott and her family due to the death of her husband, Scott, in June. Have a great holiday! Pool Notes If you’re a ‘pool person,’ you’ve noticed the new faces of our pool attendants. Welcome to them all! Jessica Padgett is Pool Manager, and coordinates everything: She plans work schedules (and rearranges when necessary) and keeps the pool and its area clean & organized. The attendants are Andrew Lambert, Holly Little, Rachael Raming, Carrie Ridenhour, and Lauren Walker. One of their main July jobs is checking pool passes; please have yours ready to show. If you show it one day, the next day may be a different attendant who may also ask to see it. Once all attendants know you, you won’t have to worry about passes! Also new this summer at the pool is the NABY (North Albemarle Baptist Youth) Concession, managed by Todd and Jennifer Kimrey. Woodrun members for twenty years, the Kimreys thank everyone for the support they’ve gotten and are “glad to be serving our community this way.” The concession’s normal menu is prepackaged food and drinks. On July 4 and 5, barbecue plates will also be available (barbecue, beans, slaw, chips) for $7, and popcorn will be sold for $1/bag. All profits will go to the church youth missions. The Kimreys welcome any suggestions on improving the concession (as well as complaints)! Actions without meetings: No Board votes have been taken since the June Board meeting. Slip renters: If your boat is moored at one of the Clubhouse docks, be sure to move it by 6:00 p.m. on the day of the fireworks, which are currently scheduled for Friday, July 5. A rain date has been booked for Sunday, July 6. Home- land Security will not OK our permit unless all boats are gone. As of July 1, swimmers MUST show a 2014 Pool Pass! This is the BRIGHT ORANGE pass – the bright green pass is last year’s and is no longer valid. Write your name and Lot Number on it. Please, it’s not the pool attendants’ fault that they ask to see your pass. They are told to ask – and the reason? It ensures that only members in good standing may use our biggest amenity, the pool. Until the 2014-2015 dues are paid in full, a member will not receive his/her passes or his/her gate bar codes. Pool Aerobics Class: Tuesday, July 1 heralded the first pool aerobics class of the year. If you are interested, there’s no sign up, no cost, no commitment. Come to the pool at 10:00 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays to spend 30 to 45 minutes exercising in the pool. Come when you can, as often as you can, for a fun, informal, relaxed way to get your blood moving a little faster. If you miss a day, don’t worry! Lakeside Worship Service Lakeside at the Woodrun Clubhouse Every Sunday, 8:45 a.m. Warm-up of informal hymn singing at 8:30 a.m – Come early and ask for a favorite hymn!
