We the PEOP E support our CHILDREN • strengthen our FAMILIES • shape the FUTURE 45TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE PRELIMINARY PROGRAM OCTOBER 17 – OCTOBER 20, 2015 CRYSTAL GATEWAY MARRIOTT • ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA Register Today www.nbcdi.org NBCDI IN WASHINGTON, DC ABOUT NBCDI Dear Friends, On the heels of the civil rights movement, the National Black Child Development Institute was founded 45 years ago. Today, we come together at another unprecedented time in our nation’s history and in communities across the country to honor the legacy that has made such a difference in the lives of hundreds of thousands of Black children and their families, and to prepare for the work ahead of us to improve their lives into the future. There would be no NBCDI without all of you and there is perhaps no more fitting place to gather for our 45th Annual Conference than Washington, DC, as we recognize our rich history and set an agenda for action to support our children and families. Whether we lead grassroots or social media movements, we are the people who have nurtured, educated and advocated. “We the people…” those treasured words which begin the Preamble to the United States Constitution are quite fitting for us: every educator, practitioner, community, leader and parent who has joined together over the years to improve the quality of life for Black children and their families. As we celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the National Black Child Development Institute, with my first year as President and CEO behind me, we stand ready—with passion and vision—to lead in the decades to come. With renewed spirit and purpose, we will support our children, strengthen our families and shape the future of our communities, nation and world. Thank you for all that you do and for joining us in what promises to be a conference experience like no other! Sincerely, Tobeka G.
