FOOTBALL OPERATIONS STAFF
HEAD COACH & DIRECTOR OF PLAYER PERSONNEL ADAM SHACKLEFORD
“Shack” begins his second stint as the Head Coach in Spokane. During his time with the
team from 2007-2009, Shack led the af2 Spokane Shock to three division titles, two conference championships, an ArenaCup appearance in 2008, and an ArenaCup championship win in 2009. With a record of 50-7 over his three seasons, he went down in af2 history
having the highest winning percentage as a head coach (87 percent).
Shack moved on in 2010 to coach the Tri-Cities Fever, who began playing in the Indoor
Football League that season after spending the previous three years (2007-2009) as members of the former af2. From 2010-2015, Shack coached the Fever to two Intense Conference titles, two United Bowl (IFL championship) appearances (2011, 2012), and four playoff berths in six seasons as he
boosted his all-time head coaching record to 108-42. His landmark 100th win in just nine seasons came in the 2015
opener versus the Billings Wolves.
A consummate student of the game since his prep days at Ohio football powerhouse Cincinnati (Archbishop) Moeller
High School, Coach Shack quickly earned a reputation for embodying a coach on the field during his career as an
offensive guard at Anderson University. After his playing days were over, he immediately took over coaching duties of
the Anderson offensive line and helped them win a conference title in 2001. The 2015 season will mark Shack’s 22nd
season of coaching in 18 years (from 2003 to 2006, he coached college in the fall and arena football in the spring and
summer).
Shackleford got his start in arena football in 2002 by volunteering for the Indiana Firebirds of the Arena Football
League during their off-season try outs. In 2003, he served as the Offensive/Defensive Line Coach and Director of
Football Operations of the af2 Cincinnati Swarm. From 2004 to 2006, he served as Offensive Coordinator and Director
of Player Personnel for the af2 Louisville Fire.
Shackleford earned his degree in physical education from Anderson University and resides with his wife Migdalia and
two sons, Elijah and Caleb in Spokane Valley, Washington.
DEFENSIVE COORD. AND STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH AMEER ISMAIL
Ismail served as Defensive Coordinator for Tri-Cities during the 2015 IFL season and
helped the Fever to the third best total defense in the league (213.6 yards per game).
They also ranked fourth in rushing defense (73.9 yards per game), third in pass defensive
efficiency as they limited opposing quarterbacks to a rating of 97.5 in 14 games, and third
in pass defense (139.7 yards per game).
Ameer began his coaching career with the IFL’s Cedar Rapids Titans where he coached for
two seasons, including 2014 where he helped the franchise to an 11-3 record during the
regular season with one of the top defensive units in the league.
Prior to his coaching debut, Ismail played three seasons in the IFL for the Tri-Cities Fever (2010), Bloomington Edge
(2012), and the Chicago Slaughter (2013). He was a two-time First Team All-IFL selection and was named IFL Defensive
Player of the Year in 2012. During his three year IFL career Ismail registered 357 tackles, 13.5 sacks, six interceptions,
and five forced fumbles.
Ismail played his collegiate career at Western Michigan University where he earned his B.A. in Exercise Science & Physiology as well as a Masters Degree in Sports Management & Administration. During the fall of 2015, Ismail served as
a defensive assistant for the Broncos coaching linebackers and wasalso an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
After a successful collegiate career at Western Michigan, he spent time with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

ABOUT THE IFL
In 2003, two businessmen in Texas created the six-team Intense Football League. The league grew from six
to eight, to ten teams without ever having a game go un-played for five seasons. A year later, several veteran
team operators in the Midwest formed a league titled the United Indoor Football Association and enjoyed
four years of sucess. During this period, league executives from both sides admired the other’s success and
afriendship was developed.
In 2008, the suggestion of merger became reality as the two leagues agreed to dissolve their former affiliations to become the new Indoor Football League. In the league’s inaugural season in 2009, the league competed with 19 active teams. The Billings Outlaws defeated the River City Rage and were crowned the first
United Bowl Champion.
In 2010, the IFL expanded to 25 teams in its second active season. The Billings Outlaws defeated the Sioux
Falls Storm to become repeat United Bowl Champions.
2011 brought in new faces and new places to the Indoor Football League. With the addition of new teams
in markets such as Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Wyoming, the IFL gave fans more exciting football
than ever. The Sioux Falls Storm claimed their first United Bowl trophy as they defeated the Tri-Cities Fever in
the United Bowl.
2012 brought an influx of media attention and exposure to the league. The season ended with the Sioux Falls
Storm again raising the United Bowl trophy as they defeated the Tri-Cities Fever for a second year in a row.
The 2013 season proved to be one of the most successful in IFL history. IFL team’s broke box office records,
averaging just shy of 4,000 fans per game. The Sioux Falls Storm pulled off the three-peat, defeating the Nebraska Danger for the United Bowl Championship.
2015 brought the addition of the Iowa Barnstormers, Billings Wolves and the Wichita Falls Nighthawks.
The League Office will continue to work hard on expansion within the footprint of its current teams for the
2017 season and beyond.

IFL GLOSSARY OF TERMS
Alley - is the area bordered by the outside shoulders of the two offensive guards. The alley is established at the snap and does not
move during the down.
Belt - is the area five yards beyond the defensive line of scrimmage. The belt runs sideline to sideline. The belt disappears at the
snap.
Blitzer - the player who identifies himself to the offensive team and the officials as a potential blitzer by virtue of his alignment
and raising his hand (if two linebackers are present in the box). He must be located in the alley, behind the defensive box at the
snap.
In the Bank - means a penalty which cannot be administered on the kick-off, but will be enforced prior to the next from scrimmage. The half may not end with a penaltiy in the bank. In such cases, there will be an un-timed down.
Offensive Motion - in the Indoor Football League the offense is allowed to have two men in forward motion prior to the snap of
the ball.
Scrimmage Kick Out of Bounds
A. If a scrimmage kick goes out of bounds through the receiving team’s end zone it is a touchback, and it belongs to the receiving team at the five (5) yard line.
B. When a failed field goal attempt becomes dead in the end zone, it is a touchback and the ball belongs to the receiving team
and is placed on the receiving team’s five (5) yard line.
C. If a scrimmage kick goes out of bounds through the sideline beyond the receiving team’s twenty (20) yard line, without
touching the ground or a member of the receiving team, the ball belongs to the receiving team at its twenty (20) yard line.
D. If a scrimmage kick goes out of bounds before reaching the receiving team’s twenty (20) yard line, the ball belongs to the
receiving team at the spot it went out of bounds.
E. If a scrimmage kick goes out of bounds, through the sideline, after touching the ground or a member of either team and
before possession is gained, it belongs to the receiving team at the spot the ball went out of bounds.
F. If a scrimmage kick hits the ceiling, or any object suspended from the ceiling of the facility, the ball is immediately dead and
it belongs to the receiving team at their twenty (20) yard line, or the receiving team may choose to have a re-kick. If a field goal
or conversion attempt hits the obstruction, the attempt may be judged to be good if the Officials conclude that the attempt
would have been successful in the absence of the obstruction. If the attempt is judged to be no good then the ball is spotted at
the five (5) yard line.
Stunting or Twisting - When a defensive lineman is rushing the passer, there is no “stunting” or “twisting”.
Rouge - a team is awarded one point for a rouge if any of the following conditions are met:
1) A rouge may only be scored on free kicks and is scored when a member of the receiving team is not able to advance a free
kick out of his own endzone, or the player is declared down in their own endzone.
2) A rouge will be awarded to the kicking team if the receiving team commits a penalty in the receiving team’s endzone and
the ball has not been advanced out of the endzone.
Field Goal Posts - are ten (10) feet wide by 18-20 feet tall with the bottom cross-bar hung 10 feet above the ground. Field goal
posts are hung from the arena ceiling.
FIeld of Play - game fields are 50-yards long with up to 8-yard endzones. The field is 28-yards wide and marked every five-yards
with wall-to-wall lines. 12” hash marks begin five-feet from the center of the field.
Scoring - touchdowns are worth six (6) points, conversion place-kicks are one (1) point, conversion pass or run is two (2) points,
field goals are three (3) points, a safety is two (2) points, and a rouge is one (1) point.
Overtime - there is no limit to the number of overtime periods. Each consists of a series by each offense.
Offensive Unit - eight (8) players will be active on the field during scrimmage consisting of three down lineman. Four players
must be lined up on the line of scrimmage before the snap occurs. Two men can be in forward motion prior to the snap of the ball.
Defensive Unit - eight (8) players will be active on the field during scrimmage consisting of three down lineman. The jack-linebacker is not required to be in the defensive box. If he is, the blitzing linebacker must identify himself.
