This technical documento is published by FERMAX ELECTRONICA S.A.E. for informative purposes while reserving the right to modify features of the products herein at any time with no prior notice. Said changes will be reflected in subsequent editions of the same. Pag. 2 Technical Book MDS-ADS MDS-ADS SYSTEM Introduction The ADS DECODER lets us combine the MDS infrastructure in General Entrances (MDS DIRECT or MDS DIGITAL outdoor panels) and the ADS panels and house terminals in the Interior Blocks. This opens up a wide range of possibilities, taking the best of each system: the multiple functions of MDS (various accesses, guard unit/s, access controls, several interior blocks, greater distances ... etc.) and the simplicity of ADS installation (3+COAX). The typical application of this device is the enclosure of several ADS blocks with one or various General Entrances and General Guard Unit. The in-block installation is totally ADS (3+COAX) using typical ADS components. MDS elements such as MDS DIGITAL or MDS DIRECT panels are used in the General Entrances. MDS DIRECT panels may be used in General Entrances (up to a maximum of 5), configured as general entry panels and/or an MDS DIRECT guard unit. It is also possible to connect an MDS DIGITAL Unit and digital panels with electronic directory and/or guard unit. We can then connect up to 10 Guard Units and up to 32 panels. We can also make use of all the additional functions offered by an MDS Digital Unit: electronic directory, alarm sensors, building automization, access control, elevator control, etc.… BLOCK 1 3+coax BLOCK 2 BLOCK n 3+coax ADS OUTDOORPANEL 3+coax ADS OUTDOORPANEL ADS OUTDOORPANEL MDS CABLES (AUDIO+VIDEO) MDS-ADS SYSTEM EXAMPLE MDS DIRECT OUTDOORPANEL MDS DIRECT GUARD UNIT GENERAL ENTRANCE Pag. 3 Technical Book MDS-ADS ADS DECODER Ref. 2409 General Features This device was designed so as to be able to combine MDS General Entries and ADS Interior Blocks. Conversations within each block are independent and may be held simultaneously with the outdoor panel or (one) General Entrance. This is because The ADS Decoder also performs the audio switcher function, which in standby mode isolates the block audio from the General Entrance, so that the indoor (ADS) panels can have an independent conversation with their apartments. In this way, it is possible to hold simultaneous conversations in different blocks, each with its own indoor panel. When a call is made from the General Entrance to an apartment in the block, the decoder connects the audio to the General Entrance. If the call from the General Entrance is then sent to another block, the decoder disconnects the switcher so that the block audio is cut off again. Installation of the ADS Decoder is preferably carried out where the block supply is located, beside the video switcher if there is one. It is important to use a power supply for each block to avoid interference with the signals generated in a block (calls, guard unit call confirm tones, ... etc.). An ADS unit enables handling from 1 to 199 apartments (maximum allowed per ADS), depending on the setup. Different types of construction may be found, even within the same residential zone. - Type A: Individual chalets/villas. The simplest case. An ADS decoder is incorporated responding to one address per house. The decoder output is placed parallel to the house ADS kit panel and house terminal. - Types B,C or D: Apartment blocks. There would be several options depending on capacity of each building. The logical step is to select some digits to designate the block and others for the apartment in said block. Each apartment has a designated 4-digit call code when made from the General Entrance panel. These digits can be entered as follows: Type A Type B Type C Type D Call Digits VVVV BVVV BBVV BBBV Nº Blocks 10 (0 .. 9) 100 (00 .. 99) 1000 (000..999) Nº apartments/per block 9999 (0001..9999) 199 (001..199) 99 (01 .. 99) 9 (1 .. 9) Total apa. 9999 1990 9900 9000 B: Block Digits. V: Apartment Digits. Type A -> Individual Dwellings. Maximum per residential zone: 9999 chalets/villas. Type B -> Large blocks (over 100 apartments). Maximum per zone: 10 blocks with 199 per block, (enables maximum capacity use of the ADS system in each block, 199 apartments). Type C -> Medium-sized blocks. Maximum per zone: 100 blocks with 99 apartments per block. The most common type. Type D -> Smaller blocks. Maximum per zone: 1000 blocks and 9 apartments por block. Pag. 4 Technical Book MDS-ADS ADS DECODER Ref. 2409 Conversation timing between panel and apartment is limited. - by the MDS panel conversation "maximum time" parameter (may vary from 10 seconds to 5 minutes). - by the ADS terminal timing itself (limits maximum conversation time to 90 seconds) The valid timing will therefore be the shorter of the two. If a call is made from an indoor panel and then someone tries to call from the MDS Digital General Entrance to the same block, the general panel (MDS Digital) will indicate that audio is busy, to respect the indoor conversation. This time is defined by the minimum conversation time set in the MDS Digital system. If a call is made from the general entrance, the indoor ADS panels shut off for a typical set time of around 15 seconds. VERY IMPORTANT: Calls from interior ADS panels may NEVER be diverted to the guard unit from the General Entrance and it is not possible to call the concierge from them. If there is an MDS DIRECT General Entrance and Guard Unit in the facility, the General Entrance panel/s must be programmed from number 1 onwards. They must NEVER be programmed with value 0. The ADS system limitations within each block must be respected (distance, section, supply). It is not possible to establish communication between two apartments even though an MDS Guard Unit is used, as the ADS system does not allow it. The ADS decoder can act as main panel (enables house terminals to be programmed from the General Entrance panel/s) or secondary (allows house terminals to be programmed from the Interior Block ADS panel). See programming section. If making calls to house terminals of the Block programmed as 0, it is not necessary to enter the initial zeros. The ADS decoder responds to a range of telephones that must be programmed by means of an initial value and a final value. See programming section. 1 MDS Repeater Ref. 2339 will be required when the MDS BUS includes more than 120 ADS Decoders (1 Repeater will be connected for every 120 decoders). 1 REF.2409 DECODER ADS ADS DECODER 2 PGM BLOCK # MDS AUDIO ADS + - D1 D2 2 6 Ct S + L - PC CN3 3 DL1 + - D1 D2 2 6 Ct S + L - B 1 Identification Label 2 PGM button 3 Adjust Audio Balance 4 PC-Programming connector 5 Activity Led (See Technical features in pag. 23) A MDS Bus connector A 4 5 B ADS Bus connector Adjust Audio Balance: This control should only be touched if whistles or beeps are heard during conversation when calls are made from the General Entrance 3 . Pag. 16 Technical Book MDS-ADS MDS-ADS SYSTEM PROGRAMMING Programming the ADS house terminals from the Interior Block ADS Panel Leave the JP1bridge in the ADS panel MONITORS The ADS monitors require programming after their installation, entering a code that is stored in a nonvolatile memory so that it will not be erased even though the connector is dismantled or the electrical supply is cut off (this enables the monitors to be programmed in the factory, assigned the corresponding code and installed already programmed in the facility). Programming on-site is done in three simple steps, requiring the presence of two people. If programming is carried out in the factory, one operative is enough. 2 4 7 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 A J1 6 8 9 0 3 5 A 9 0 1 ... 199 J1 PRG 1. With the monitor plugged in, place the J1 switch J1 in PRG. An acoustic confirmation will be heard and the monitor is connected to the outdoor panel. PRG 2. Through the telephone, tell your assistant at the outdoor panel to make a call to the apartment where the monitor is installed and hang up. The call will be heard on the monitor. 3. Place the switch in its original position. The monitor has now been programmed. Check that it is working correctly. Pag. 17 Technical Book MDS-ADS MDS-ADS SYSTEM PROGRAMMING TELEPHONES ADS telephones, also simple to install, can be installed in audio-only facilities, in combination with ADS monitors as additional in-house equipment and in mixed installations with monitors in some dwellings and telephone only in others. Programming is done in a similar way to the monitors, by means of a J1 programming jumper located inside the telephone. Below is described how to program ADS Basic telephones Ref. 2451, ADS Extra Ref. 2452 and ADS Complet Ref. 2453. The telephones have a J2 call tone selector jumper with which it is possible to select one of two different call tones heard when a call is made. If the hangup button is kept pressed a confirmation tone can be heard. 2. Through the phone, tell your assistant to make a call to the apartment where the phone is installed. 3. Place the PRG in its original position and close the telephone cover. VERY IMPORTANT: All the telephones and/or monitors need to be programmed. Suppose a telephone is to be installed in an apartment where there was already a monitor installed. In this case, it will be programmed with the same code as the monitor. The time between steps 1 and 2 must be less than 2 minutes. If this time is exceeded, place the monitor switch/telephone jumper in the original position and begin the sequence again. In facilities with 2 access points (2 ADS panels in the block), the programming can only be done from the panel configured as ACCESS 1, (the one with the JP1 jumper on). Pag. 18 Technical Book MDS-ADS MDS-ADS SYSTEM PROGRAMMING A new ADS telephone has been designed that has the basic features only. The functions of this telephone cannot be enhanced. ADS KIT Telephone Ref. 2406. Calls to the Guard Unit have been included as a basic function with no additional button. Calls are made by pressing the open door button when the telephone is not active. Programming is done in a similar way as previously explained, but in this case instead of a programming jumper, there is a "programming button" (located inside the telephone), as shown below. 2 4 7 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 A 6 8 9 0 3 5 A 9 0 1 ... 199 1. Press and hold on the the hook switch and the programming button until your hear two confirmation tones. 2. Enter the line number to be assigned to the telephone. Confirmation tone is heard again (audio will be interrupted if the hook switch is not pressed at this point). Check the audio connection holding off the hook switch. 3. Press the hook switch and cover the Telephone. VERY IMPORTANT: Calls to the Guard Unit are made by pressing the open door button when the telephone is inactive. In facilities with a Guard Unit, it is not possible to program the telephones from the outdoor panel when the Unit is in day mode. The whole programming process can be done with the telephone on the hook. If done with the phone off the hook, programming will be interrupted if the phone is hung up before programming is finalised. The time between steps 1 and 2 must be less than 4 minutes. If this period is exceeded, start the sequence again. Telephones and monitors that have not been programmed will not operate. A conversation may take place between the person at the outdoor panel and the one in the apartment to indicate which apartment they are in. The telephones programmed with the "SEQUENTIAL/AUTO" sub-option must have consecutive numbers and all that is required is one person to go from house to house. NOTE: 1-> On the panel display the message "Press open door button on telephone" appears but in reality the programming switch/jumper on the monitor/telephone must be changed to the ON position (in the ADS Basic Telephone Ref. 2406, the programming button must be pressed). NOTE: 2-> On the panel, the actual number of the the telephone will appear, determined by the value 0000, if it has not yet been programmed.
