Ragin’ Cajuns
Soccer and Track Facility
Sited just west of Cajun Field, the Ragin’
Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility is one of the most
picturesque and modern facilities in the South.
Bordered by beautiful southern longleaf pines
on two sides, the Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer and Track
Facility facility seats approximately 5,000 and
contains a 24-seat air-conditioned press box for
media coverage.
The facility has been the permanent home
of the Ragin’ Cajuns soccer squad since 2005
when the infield was redone to provide a 75’ x
120’ soccer field complete with Hybrid Bermuda
grass. The field is surrounded by a eight-lane,
400-meter track.
The facility was dedicated on Aug. 28,
2005 before the soccer team played to a 1-1
draw vs. Tulsa. In 2006, UL hosted the Sun Belt
Conference Soccer Tournament in November of
that year.
Prior to the new facility, the Cajuns used
multiple sites to host home matches.
When the program was founded in 2000,
UL played its first two seasons at Moore Park in
Carencro, La.
From 2002-2004, the team moved on
campus, hosting matches at Cajun Field.

2010 RAGIN’ CAJUNS SOCCER
Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer 2010 Preview
In 2009, the Ragin’ Cajuns suffered a series of setbacks and injuries that resulted in a less
than favorable record on the pitch.
But as UL enters the sixth season under the direction of head coach Scot Wieland, the
Cajuns will return 21 of 23 players on last season’s roster.
On offense, the Cajuns will get back senior Courtney Hofland, who went down with an
injury four matches into the year. She is the school’s all-time goal scorer and will be joined
by senior Kelli Jestes, who ranks number two in career goals scored. Four more seniors will
bring their talents and experience as Chelsea Balestra, Jordan Blevins, Kennedy Richards
and Carleigh Martin will help fill out the ranks.
Also on the offensive end, UL will see the return of Cayla Chatman who had a breakout
season in her freshman campaign last year. Brooke Perry, Maci Andrus and Kayla Henrie
also will provide a threat on the offense in their sophomore seasons.
On defense, Louisiana should benefit from the return of a group of experienced defenders
which includes Allison Baker, Erin Gremillion and Megan Riley.
In goal, the Cajuns will have a number of options. Amanda Moorefield returns for her
redshirted sophomore year after missing 16 matches with an injury. Sophomore Lauren
Berlingo also returns after starting 14 matches before going down to the injury bug.
Sophomore Dani Presley also saw time in goal after making the transition from defender to
goalkeeper.
The Cajuns welcome five freshmen to the fold. Added in with the 10 sophomores, Louisiana
has a great core of athletes to solidify the program for the next few years.
Louisiana looks for its “offensive-minded” players to boost an offense which averaged
only 0.9 goals per match last season. Added to that is what Wieland believes is improved
team chemistry and UL may be poised to put together a successful season in 2010.
The Ragin’ Cajuns schedule features 20 regular-season matches with three of the first four
being played at the Cajuns Soccer Facility.
During that opening stretch Louisiana will host Mississippi Valley State (Aug. 22), Houston
(Aug. 27) and Lamar (Aug. 29).

Scot Wieland has been at the helm of
the Ragin’ Cajuns women’s soccer program
since 2005. As a head coach, Wieland has
amassed a 114-92-17 overall record in 11
seasons.
Injuries and setbacks plagued Weiland
and Co. in the 2009 season as the Cajuns
limped to a 2-16-1 record after losing four
starters early in the season.
For the 2008 season, the Cajuns posted
an overall record of 5-12-2 and had two
players earn All-Louisiana accolades as
Taunya Geelhoed and Callie Oliver were
named to the 2008 Louisiana Sports
Writers Association All-Louisiana Women’s
Soccer Collegiate Team.
In 2007, Wieland directed the Ragin’
Cajuns soccer team to a record-setting
season. The 2007 Cajuns boasted a 9-8-4
season, capturing the most wins in program
history. The winning record marked the first
time in program history UL’s soccer team
concluded the year above .500.
During the 2006 and 2007 seasons
combined, Wieland has led the Cajuns
to 17 total wins with 10 wins in Sun Belt
Conference play. Seventeen wins over two
years is the most victories for the Cajuns in a
two-year span in program history.
In his second year at the helm of the
Cajuns’ soccer team, Wieland directed the
team to an 8-8-4 record, including a 5-4-2
conference mark. Eight wins in a season
marked an all-time best for the Cajuns,
while five conference wins was the most
SBC victories in a season. The .500 record

was the first time in Cajuns’ history that the
soccer team finished the year with a nonlosing record.
In his first season at UL, Wieland led the
team to a 4-10-3 overall record and a 2-6-1
Sun Belt Conference record.
He earned his first win as head coach of
the Cajuns in just his third match. Wieland
led UL to a 1-0 victory at the Ragin’ Cajuns
Track/Soccer Facility over in-state rival
Northwestern State. The win over the
Demons marked the first victory over NSU
in Lafayette.
Under Wieland, Louisiana took in-state
foe LSU into overtime for the first time in
school history, allowing just one goal – the
least amount of goals scored by the Tigers
against the Cajuns in school history.
In conference play, Wieland earned his
first SBC win in his first match as he guided
UL to a 1-0 victory on the road against
Arkansas State.
His first conference home victory
came on Oct. 21, 2005 against Troy. The
Cajuns used goals from Meredith Smith and
Bridgette Adorno to take a 2-1 win over the
Trojans.
Earlier in the year, Wieland directed
the Ragin’ Cajuns to a 1-1 double overtime
tie against Denver. The tie marked the first
time in history that the Pioneers did not get
the better of the Cajuns and only the second
time in the program history that UL scored a
goal against DU.
Wieland and the Cajuns entered the
Sun Belt Conference Tournament to face
the No. 1 seeded North Texas Mean Green.
Under Wieland’s tutelage, the Cajuns scored
a pair of goals and came close to upsetting
the top seed. The pair of goals marked the
first multi-goal match in the conference
tournament for the Cajuns and only the
second time in program history that the
team scored in the SBC Tournament.
Taking over a program that has
always had a high standard for academic
performance, Wieland’s first year on the
job continued this trend of excellence in
the classroom. In 2009, 15 players of the
20-man roster (75-percent) maintained
a grade point average of 3.0 or above. Of
those 15 students, 5 were named to the Sun
Belt Conference Commissioners List (3.5-4.0
GPA). In 2005, 23 players (82-percent) found
themselves on the SBC Honor Roll. Of those
23 students, 15 were named to the Sun Belt
Conference Commissioners List (3.5-4.0
GPA) – the most for any UL program in the
2005-06 school year.
Since Wieland has been at UL, the
soccer team has been in the Top-3 in GPA
among all UL sports teams every semester,
earning the top GPA three times.

championships in six years, most recently in
2003 and 2004, was named the new head
coach of the University of Louisiana at
Lafayette’s women’s soccer program in June
2005.
Wieland replaced program-founder
Dave Poggi who left the University on June
30, 2005.
Wieland is the second head coach
in the history of the program since its
inception in 2000. He inherited a team that
posted a school-record seven victories in
2004 and had a 2005 recruiting class which
was ranked No. 21 in the Central Region and
No. 78 in the nation amongst all Division I
schools by Soccer Buzz Magazine.
Before Louisiana
Winning matches and conference
championships is something Wieland is all
too familiar with. While at BAC, he posted
a .688 overall winning percentage, guided
the Crusaders to three undefeated regular
season championships in the NCAA Division
II Carolinas Virginia Athletic Conference
and went to the NCAA Tournament twice
which included an appearance in the NCAA
Quarterfinals in 1999.
In six seasons at Belmont Abbey,
Wieland’s teams accumulated an 8638-3 overall record, winning double-digit
matches each year, and posted a 58-4-2
record in conference action.
Three times his team went undefeated
in conference play (1999, 2003 and 2004)
and he left the Belmont Abbey program
with a 26-match winning streak in CVAC
regular season games.

Kelli Jestes (right).
Wieland was named CVAC Coach of
the Year in 1999 as well as 2003, when he
led the Crusaders to an undefeated CVAC
record and won both the CVAC regular
season and tournament titles both times.
Wieland coached two CVAC Freshman of
the Year recipients, four CVAC Player of the
Year honorees and had three players named
All-Americans.
Prior to his stint at BAC, Wieland began
his collegiate coaching career at Middle
Tennessee in 1998 serving as an assistant
coach.
His coaching career began in 1993
when he was named head coach at Bishop
Verot High School in Ft. Meyers, Fla. Wieland
stayed at BVHS through the 1997 season
leading the girl’s soccer program to an
overall record of 64-15-5.
In addition to his collegiate experience,
Wieland headed the North Carolina U-19
girl’s ODP program from 1999-2001 and
the North Carolina U-16 girl’s ODP program
from 2000-2003. In 2003, he led the North
Carolina ODP U-15 team to the National
Final Four.
Wieland played collegiately for the Bethany
(W.V.) College men’s soccer team from 19871991 and also saw time on the Bethany
football team as a place kicker.
Wieland received his bachelor’s degree
in fine arts from Bethany College in 1991.
