Head Coach Derek Pittman. “It was humid
and cloudy and rained a little. But I am so
proud of this team. They rebounded today
and put forth the effort in their performance.”
ULL’s Callie Oliver scored first off the pass
from Courtney Hofland just one minute into
the game. The two teams were tied at 1-1 at
the midway point thanks to an unassisted
goal by Arkansas State’s Anna Kaloghirou in
the 38th minute.
As the second half got underway, ULL’s
Kelli Jestes helped her team take the lead
again with an unassisted goal at 48:13. In the
59th minute, the Ragin’ Cajuns Gayla Foster
took the cross from Stephanie Lynch off the
corner kick and Foster scored the goal.
ASU goalie Brielan Smiechowski recorded
11 saves.
“I’m proud of the passion we showed on
the field,” continued Pittman. “It’s not easy to
battle hard and not get the win. We’ve got to
get back and work harder. We won’t quit and
we will persevere and find ways to get better.”
ODDS AND ENDS: In the current Sun Belt
Conference statistical soccer rankings, goalkeeper Brielan Smiechowski is ranked second in saves per game with 6.50 while Kelly
Goodman is ranked fourth with 6.00.
H H H
Junior Markie McRae scored one goal
against Prairie View to move into third on the
all-time career list. To move to second place,
she will need to score five and 14 to take
over the top spot that is currently held by
Shawna Sparks (2002-05) with 22. McRae
