Painting Talk of the Month Peter Ompir is known as the “Dean of American Toleware.” He was born, Charles Burns, in 1904. He was trained in fine art but working during the Depression, there was little money for art. “I turned to anything I could get my hands on from cigarette boxes to anything old or new.” as quoted in an interview in 1970. Art collectors have always valued Ompir’s work for its colorful decorations of painted fruit, stylized flowers, birds and quaint figures. For over 40 years, he created unique pieces and never dated his work. He died in 1979. Google his magnificent work. Mary Jane Todd , Decorative Artist , paints in his style of work. 5 J U L Y P R O J E C T 6 Post-It Kathryn has graduated with her CZT when she took her training course in Providence, R.I June22-25. Kingslan & Gibilisco Series - Seven Deadly Sins of Art? Part 1 Sloth is more than mere laziness, it is also apathy. You want to paint, but you are not willing to put time in to learn fundamental techniques and skills. You want to paint more detailed images but still want to finish a painting in an afternoon. You want the results but deny the due diligence you need to put in. Excerpts from an article by Marion Boddy-Evans. 12 Recycle, Reuse, Redecorate April 2015 CRDA Fundraiser We have relaxed from fundraising just a tad too long, so next years fundraiser is going to be different.
