The last 2 months were wonderful. With classes taught by
Kathryn with Genesis oils. I learned a lot about how to paint
glass and make it look so real. I’m going to miss this month’s
class taught by Mary Frances so I hope you all have fun. It’s
almost time for elections so start thinking about what office
you would like to do and have an open mind when the nominating committee calls you. It takes all of us to keep this chapter going. Vicki has lined up some awesome talent for the rest
of the year and into 2015 and don’t forget to sign up for
Mark Polumchek in November.

Painting Talk of the Month
Peter Ompir is known as the “Dean of American Toleware.” He was born, Charles Burns, in
1904. He was trained in fine art but working during the Depression, there was little money
for art. “I turned to anything I could get my hands on from cigarette boxes to anything old
or new.” as quoted in an interview in 1970.
Art collectors have always valued Ompir’s work for its colorful decorations of painted fruit,
stylized flowers, birds and quaint figures.
For over 40 years, he created unique pieces and never dated his work.
He died in 1979. Google his magnificent work.
Mary Jane Todd , Decorative Artist , paints in his style of work.

Kingslan & Gibilisco Series - Seven Deadly Sins of Art?
Part 1
Sloth is more than mere laziness, it is also apathy. You want to paint, but you are not
willing to put time in to learn fundamental techniques and skills. You want to paint more
detailed images but still want to finish a painting in an afternoon. You want the results
but deny the due diligence you need to put in.
Excerpts from an article by Marion Boddy-Evans.

Recycle, Reuse, Redecorate April 2015 CRDA Fundraiser
We have relaxed from fundraising just a tad too long, so next years fundraiser is going to be
different. What about painting items that can be recycled to beautiful art work, furniture,
jewelry, glassware .. The works. Here are some ideas …
A committee will have to be formed.

QUALITY CUSTOM WOOD CUTTING
FOR THE DECORATIVE ARTIST
DISCOUNT PRICES FOR CHAPTER MEMBERS
I can custom cut any wood item for you from any pattern.
If you don’t have a pattern, but have an idea, let me know and I can make it for you. All items can be made from solid Pine,
Baltic Birch plywood or Ultra Light MDF board*. Any size 1/8” to 1-1/2”. Every wood item is free from knots and any defects.
Finished - Sanded - Ready to Paint or Stain
*Ultra Light MDF board is my recommendation because it has
an ultra smooth surface, no knots or wood grain, does not warp,
sands easily if needed and is less expensive than wood.
For more information please contact Tom Mingolello
