Canton of Zug – mobility guaranteed
The canton of Zug is in a central position. Short distances to work,
to schools, to shops, to restaurants and to sports and leisure facilities all add up to an excellent quality of life.
The central location is also a benefit when it comes to railway, bus
and road connections. The commercial metropolis of Zurich and
the popular tourist destination of Lucerne are just half an hour
away and the trip to or from Zurich airport takes only 45 minutes
by train or car.

Public transport in the canton of Zug
A modern and seamlessly networked
transportation system
The canton of Zug features a trendsetting, seamlessly networked
transportation system. Public buses
and the urban railway are perfectly networked and provide ideal connections
to residential, leisure and working
areas from the hubs of Baar, Zug,
Cham and Rotkreuz.
The service providers in the transportation sector include Zugerland
Verkehrsbetriebe AG (ZVB) for public
buses and Schweizerische Bundesbahnen AG (Swiss federal railways – SBB)
for the urban railway.
Buses – ZVB
ZVB is the concession-holder for the
bus network in the canton of Zug, including bus lines in the cantons of
Schwyz, Lucerne and Aargau. Every
day, around 100 vehicles operate for
19.5 hours, carrying an average of
70 000 passengers on working days.
The urban railway – SBB
The SBB operate the Zug urban railway:
Line S1:
Baar – Zug – Cham – Rotkreuz –
Ebikon – Lucerne
Line S2:
Baar Lindenpark – Zug – Walchwil –
Arth - Goldau – Schwyz – Erstfeld
Comfortable vehicles
The modern trains of the urban railway
and low-step buses make getting on
and off easier, especially for passengers with pushchairs and persons with
disabilities. Traveling on ZVB buses and
the urban railway is a real pleasure
thanks to the air-conditioned interior
and the smoothly running vehicles.
Passenger information system
All bus and train units are fitted with
dynamic on-screen passenger information systems, providing the passengers
with all the necessary information, including the destination, next stop, arrival time and connection to other bus
and train routes.
Future projects
The current bus system is constantly
being further developed and improved
to make it a perfect complement to the
train system (express trains and city
railway). Transport capacities in the
canton of Zug are set to increase further in the future, with continuous improvements made to passenger comfort and space (by means of new
vehicles) and – where appropriate –
preferential lanes for public transport
will be introduced.

Z-Pass
The neighboring associations of Zug,
Schwyz and Zurich and the SBB have
developed the Z-Pass card, a combined ticket option based on a system of
zones, to simplify cross-canton travel
starting or finishing within what are
known as corridors (zone areas). The
Z-Pass card is available for any combination of zones and valid on all public
transport within the selected zones
(single ticket, annual ticket, etc.). For
corporate customers, the Z-BonusPass
is available.
Inter-Abo Zug/Rotkreuz – Lucerne
The Inter-Abo card (monthly or annual
ticket) is the ideal ticket for regular
travelers between the two cantons of
Zug and Lucerne. As well as the stretch
from Zug or Rotkreuz to Lucerne, the
Inter-Abo card also covers the zones in
Lucerne and/or Zug or Rotkreuz.

Zug/Schwyz
The Kombi-Pass card and the combined day tickets join the two ticket associations of Zug and Schwyz.
Night services on weekends
Zuger Nachtexpress (bus)
On Friday and Saturday nights, the Zuger Nachtexpress night bus takes night
owls from Zug Bahnhofplatz to the various parts of the canton of Zug.
Night connections (train)
The night connections bring party fans
safely home late at night and into the
wee small hours. The trains, which require a night surcharge, operate on the
routes from Zurich to Lucerne and
back, stopping in Baar, Zug, Cham,
Rotkreuz, Gisikon-Root and also in Ebikon when heading for Lucerne. There
are three trains running every hour
from Zurich main station and two from
Lucerne.
Night surcharge
Travel on the Zuger Nachtexpress night
bus and on night trains requires a night
surcharge of CHF 5.00 in addition to
the normal ticket price.
Park and ride
Covered bike racks as well as car parks
right next to the SBB stations in Baar,
Zug, Zug-Schutzengel, Cham, Hünenberg-Zythus and Rotkreuz allow ideal
use and combination of the range of
transport options available.
Leisure options

für den Zugersee AG
Schifffahrtsgesellschaft für den Zugersee AG (SGZ) has a modern fleet providing the perfect boat for every occasion and group size, whether it is a

Leaseholder Zürcher Kulinaria AG is
responsible for on-board catering. All
food is freshly prepared on board.
Ägerisee Schifffahrt AG
Ägerisee Schifffahrt AG (AeS) has two
relatively small, nostalgic boats and a
new, large motor launch. The idyllic
lake Aegeri offers a wide range of different options: relaxing on a snacks and
drinks cruise, treating yourself to a
gourmet evening cruise or spending an
entertaining afternoon playing the typical Swiss card game called «Jass».
Other highlights include Sunday brunch
cruises and private and business
events. Passengers on lake Aegeri are
spoilt by Gastronomia Ägerisee and its
amazing attention to detail.
Zugerbergbahn AG
Zugerbergbahn AG (ZBB) takes you to
Zug’s local mountain. Bus no. 11 takes
you from Zug station to the Schönegg
valley station and from there, the trip up
the Zugerberg mountain (925 m above
sea level) lasts just a few minutes. The
wonderful views from the Zugerberg
mountain extend as far as the foothills of
the Alps. Discover the recreational area
by taking a walk, visiting the children’s
play area or enjoying a cozy lunch. In
winter, you can also go cross-country
skiing or tobogganing.
