THE REPORT
F106 $29.50
Several new Superior “Never-weres” will soon be available. These Japanese BB’s designs of the 1930’s were
named after their designers. We’re hopeful that they can
be available by the first of the year. Pre-orders are most
welcome! We should have started making deliveries of the
U.S. never-were ships that were announced in the last
issue as you read this. Apologies for the delays on these
but our modelmaker Wayne Smith got caught up in the
recent elections and I applaud him for participating in
this process. But the elections are over and he has thankfully returned to his workbench. Also, note as well that
there are some “Fantasy Fleet” ships have been re-issued.
If you missed them before, here’s another chance to add
them to your fleet.
Randy Swank at Desktop has issued two new super
dioramas. One depicts the ‘Channel Dash” in 1942 by
SCHARNHORST, GNEISENAU & SCHARNHORST, the other, the
destroyer action at Omaha Beach on D-Day. Very unique
and beautifully executed!
Listed in this issue are new and recent arrivals from
Navis/Neptun, Argos and Albatros. Expected soon are
shipments from CM and SeaBattle 1:2400. Some great
“Specials” also! Armor buffs: Note that GHQ has issued
new “Battle Boxes” which pits ten of one tank against
ten of an enemy tank.
Bob Weymouth has come up with some very interesting
ideas on re-arming some of the Superior “Never-Weres”
and they are listed in this issue. This is a great way to
increase you fleet and note that we will “customize” the
parts bag according to your instructions when you order
the basic hulls.
Now there’s only a few weeks left until Christmas but
there’s still time to get something new under the Xmas tree
Let your benefactors know we’ll be glad to check stock by
phone or email. Gift certificates are available as well. As our
41st year ends, the Paschall Clan, Sue, Pete Jr. and myself,
want to thank you for your orders and to wish you Merry
Christmas, Happy Chanukah and Happy Holidays!
J114 $28.50
FUJIMOTO, Japanese BB, 9-16”, 12-6”,
35,000T, 762’L
J115 $28.50 HIRAGA, Japanese BB, 10-19”, 12-6”,
35,000T, 761’L
These 1930 designs were named after the Japanese
naval architects who designed them. Admiral Hiraga and
Captain Fujimoto were the fathers of many of the WWII
Japanese warships. These two ships were limited by treaty
to 35,000 tons. They needed a speed of 26 knots to keep
up with KONGO and NAGATO. TOSA size hulls were chosen
but this meant that weight had to be pared down which
would have limited their armor. The Superior models are
predicated on the designs having a beauty and symmetry
that characterized Japanese battleships and cruisers.
ALSACE, French BB; 12-15”, 12-6”,
16-3.9”, 45,000T, 900’L; In 1940
the French began design studies for a
new BB class. They considered three
designs using 9-16” (3x3). But this
would have meant designing a new
turret so they settled on the 15” turret
they had (3x4). WWII cancelled the
building of this ship.
F901 $24.50 NORMANDIE, French BB 1916;
12-13.4”, 23,230T, 578’L; Because of
the lack of large docks, the French
looked for ways to increase the
firepower of their BB’s yet maintain the
same basic hull size. They decided on
quadruple turrets which gave their
broadside two extra guns. Four of this
class were launched in 1915 but never
completed.
Note: Be sure to read Wayne Smith’s historical backgrounds
on the above “Never-weres” under “Modeling and Historical
Notes” on our wesbsite
BB1934-2, U.S. BB,8-16” 35,000T, 740’L

Here are this issue’s specials. Regular price first, sale
price second. Sale good until 1 February 2007; Note we
are offering several Desktop 1:2400 painted models at sale
prices..a good opportunity to try these beauties!
Available again are the following ships. All Superior
“Never-Weres” are made available on a rotating basis. The
following will not be re-issued for several more years.
D201 $28.50 Dutch 1047, Dutch CB; 9-11”, 12-4.7”,
28,000T, 778’L; This plan was similar
to SCHARNHORST and was designed to
fight Japanese heavy cruisers in the
Pacific. It called for German 11” guns
but the invasion of the Netherlands in
1940 put an end to plans to build this
class.

Bob Weymouth has come up with some very interesting
re-armament ideas for Superior never-weres. He makes no
bones about some of these ships not being able to handle
the extra weight, maintain speed or protection. He just
thought they would make for some interesting wargaming
and/or to expand your “Fantasy Fleet” collection. He’s done
most of these and is happy with the results.
1.
Three quad 16” from A134C MAXIMUM BB onto
A128 VIRGINIA (MONTANA III)
2. Four twin A208 SCHEME III turrets onto A207 CAC
giving a 8-12”/55 armament
3A. Four triple 16”/50 from A128 VIRGINIA onto A127
GEORGIA (MONTANA II) giving a 12-18”/47 battery
3B. Mix two triple 16”/50 from A128 VIRGINIA onto #1
and #4 turret positions giving a 10-18”/47 battery.
4. Four triple 18.1”/45 from J107 YAMATO onto J113
A140/B2 giving a 12-18” Battery
5. Four triple 11.1”/54.5 turrets from G207 KREUZER P
or G201 GNEISENAU onto G208 KW45 giving a 1211.1//54.5 main battery (GNEISENAU in reverse
which would give an excellent commerce raider.)
6. Four twin 8” from B304 LONDON to B402 BELFAST
gives a 1940 British CA design
7. Three twin 18”/47 from A127 GEORGIA onto A105
IOWA giving IOWA a six 18”/45 battery
8. Four 8” twin mounts from A312 DES MOINES and
put on A207 SCHEME 2
9. Four 12” twin mounts from SCHEME 2 and put on
A207 CA-C
10. Four 20” twin mounts from A134A and put on A127
GEORGIA
…and one more for you
How about the Japanese never-was BB SHINANO? Take the
main battery turrets from J107 YAMATO and put them on
J109 Super YAMATO. This will give you SHINANO and Hull
111 (supposedly to be named OWARI) with 10cm DP AA
batteries and 15.5cm secondaries.
Note: If you wish to try any of above, let us know and
we will send the hull with the custom parts bag at no additional cost. If the ship is not available, we will be glad
to backorder it for you and ship when it is available. All
Superior never-weres will be made available on a rotating
basis. In stock now are A105, A128, A312, J107, G201,
G208. Parts are generally in stock.

Two new outstanding dioramas have been issued by
Desktop. As with the others in the line, they “freeze” a
moment in naval history. The ships used are super-detailed
1:2400 GHQ models. Each diorama comes in a display case
with an historical write-up of the action shown.
DL05 $244.50
“THE CHANNEL DASH, OPERATION
CERBERUS”, FEBRUARY 1942;
This six-ship diorama depicts the “dash” up the English
Channel from Brest toWilhelmhaven by SCHARNHORST,
GENEISENAU and PRINZ EUGEN. Three of the escorting DD’s
are also included. Size: 24”x 6” x 4”
DL06 $244.50
“DESTROYERS TURN THE TIDE AT
OMAHA” 6 JUNE 1944;
This diorama shows the action at Dog Red and Dog White
beaches. Only one gap had been blown in the entire section
at Omaha leading to the traffic jam and loss of landing
craft. The issue was in doubt until destroyers went in close
(despite danger of grounding) using Sherman tank gunfire
as for spotting, carried the day. Size: 11”x 8” x 4”
