Jeppesen Undergoes a Revision
Government and Military Aviation. In
addition to its aviation-related activities,
Jeppesen has also created a business
unit dedicated to its marine-specific
product offerings.
As
part
of
this
reorganization, there
have also been changes
to the leadership at
Jeppesen. Most notably,
Mark Van Tine has
been named President
and Chief Operating
Officer. He is responsible for the overall
management of Jeppesen, having
replaced Horst Bergmann, who retired
on May 1 after more than 40 years of
service with the company.
Mark began his career with Lockheed
DataPlan in 1981 and joined Jeppesen
when it acquired Lockheed in 1989. He
served as Managing Director of
DataPlan from 1991 until 1995, when
he relocated to Denver to assume
many of his current duties. Mark
received a B.S. in Aviation from San
Jose State University in 1980 and
is a graduate of the Harvard
School of Business Program for
Management Development.

Beginning in January of this year,
Jeppesen has been in the process of an
internal restructuring designed to better
serve our customers as well as further
align ourselves with the operating

operated by market segments, as
opposed to specific product lines. By

Under the direction of Mexico-native
Leny Omilion, the Jeppesen Corporate
Flight Services’ Latin American sales
team is making its presence known in
that part of the world. Listed below are
just a few of the events and activities that
they have participated in over the last
few months.
AeroExpo
Acapulco 2003
This is Mexico's largest and most
important business and general aviation
show. AeroExpo, which took place in
early March, is held every two years,
alternating with the FIDAE show in
Chile. As always, our parent company,
Boeing, sported their handsome exhibit
booth to display the wares of their many
business units, such as commercial
aircraft, BBJ, parts and maintenance,
Preston Aviation Solutions and Jeppesen.
This show is put together by the
renowned Mexican aviation magazine
"Vuela". The entire event was held inside
a 45,000 square meter tent at the
Acapulco International Airport. The
With Mexico being one of the major
players in Latin American aviation,
participation in AeroExpo is very
beneficial for most businesses within the
industry. The warmth and beauty of the
city of Acapulco, combined with the
Mexican culture, provides an exquisite
ambiance for this event.
LABACE
Sao Paulo, Brazil
As
the
Latin
American aviation
market continues
to grow, the need
for a trade show
on the scale of an
EBACE, or even
NBAA, has become
apparent. Although the March show was
its
first,
LABACE’s
debut
was
impressively organized by NBAA and
ABAG. The Sao Paulo convention center
hosted some 100 exhibits. The static
displays, which represented numerous
corporate aircraft from the different
manufacturers, were situated at nearby
Guarulhos International Airport. In
addition to the host country of Brazil, the
2,500 attendees represented such
countries as Panama, Argentina,
Venezuela and Spain. LABACE is
definitely the start of something very
exciting for the local South American
market, especially for such key
aviation industry players as Brazil,
Chile and Venezuela.
Jeppesen Supports
Presidential Flights
In late January of this year, Jeppesen
Corporate Flight Services had the
pleasure of providing the international
trip planning support for the Mexican
Presidential Fleet. Jeppesen’s assistance
for President Vicente Fox’s travels to and
from the World Economic Forum in
Switzerland included flight planning,
ground handling and hotel coordination,
as well as fuel through Jeppesen World
Fuel Services. In addition to the
conference in Zurich, the President’s
Boeing 757 also made stops in Berlin,
Munich and Rotterdam.
In mid-February, Jeppesen was once
again honored by having the opportunity
to support the Chilean Air Force on their
Presidential flights throughout the
Pacific. The countries visited by
President Ricardo Lagos Escobar were
Australia, Japan and Guam. Services
provided by Jeppesen Corporate Flight
Services included flight planning and
ground handling arrangements for the
Chilean Air Force’s Boeing B737-500
Presidential aircraft.

SARS UPDATE
All international operators should keep
informed of all announcements made related
to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome
(SARS). The Center for Disease Control
and the World Health Organization are
publishing the most up-to-date information
at http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/sars
and
http://who.int/csr/sars/en. At the time of
this publication, Brazil had recently issued
notice that all operators entering that
country from an endemic country would be
met by local health authorities to determine
if anyone on board displays any SARS-type
symptoms. Any person under suspect will
be subject to three weeks quarantine until
it can formally be determined if they have
SARS. Even symptoms of the common
cold can be suspect, so any travelers to
Brazil need to be wary.

AIRPORT / RUNWAY CLOSURES:
Almaty (UAAA) – closed from 01 May to 30
October every Tuesday and Thursday
between 0600Z-1000Z.
St. Petersburg (ULLI) – closed from 29 May
through 01 June.
Dhaka (VGZR) – airport will be closed
during specific hours and days of the week
through 30 June.
The European Aviation Safety Agency became law in the 15
European Union States in September 2002. Plans are now well
underway for the management of the Agency, and existing JAA
Requirements are already being transposed into European Civil
Airworthiness Requirements.
As the existing JAA currently has little or no legal backing, EASA
proposes to address this situation with clear and decisive action,
such as standardization, recognized rules and efficient and costeffective regulations. The changes will aim to meet comparable
standards to those already in place within the FAA.

EASA is part of a system consisting of member states, national
aviation authorities and European parliaments, all making up
the Advisory Board of Interested Parties (ABIP), which has a
temporary headquarters in Brussels.
There is strong representation from the corporate aviation
market, with members of the UK’s GAMTA, the General Aviation
Manufacturers and Traders Association, making up 5 out of the
21 seats available on ABIP.
ATHENS OLYMPICS 2004
Preliminary plans are underway in
preparation for next summer’s Olympic
Games. Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority
and Athens International Airport staff
members will be meeting in mid-May,
2003, to establish parking and slot
procedures for General Aviation aircraft.

Aeropuertos Internacional de Ezeiza (SAEZ) is approximately 3545 minutes from the city center of Buenos Aires. This airport
services commercial and corporate aircraft. It also serves as the
headquarters for Jeppesen’s Preferred Handler, Munser FBO of
Munser S.A. Munser, short for Mundial de Servicios (World
Services in Spanish) originated in 1992. Tito Zaninovich left Pan
Am as its youngest Director and founded Munser S.A. in
Argentina. Originally formed by a group of eight people servicing
American Airlines, Munser S.A. eventually added an important
portfolio of customers. Tito brought many experienced people to
Munser. These individuals obtained their experience from the
airline and corporate arenas.

required to satisfactorily complete an extensive training course.

Munser’s operational virtues and employee professionalism,
Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, the Argentine Port Authority, selected

Enhanced Enroute Weather (WXE)
A
lthough we briefly discussed the
new capabilities of the Enhanced
Enroute Weather option in the
last issue of the Corporate Flyer, we now
want to give you all the details so that you
can customize your personal WXE
databases through our JetPlan.com
graphical user interface (GUI). This new
GUI allows you to create and modify
three separate databases which are used
to customize the WXE output that you
receive. Listed below are what the three
database GUIs look like and an explanation
of how they are used.
• ETP airports include all Equal-TimePoint airports listed in your flight plan.
• FP Special airports include ETOPS
enroute diversion airfields listed in your
flight plan.
The following GUI allows you to select
the types of weather and NOTAM reports
for each category of flight and allows you
to select the style of output you wish to
receive. The output can be delivered by
Report Type, Station and, in the future,
even by raw XML if you wish to use your
own style sheet to view the output.
From the Customer Database menu on
JetPlan.com, the WXE database option is
located at the far right of the window.
Click on it, and you can then select from
the three databases that allow WXE
customization; Enroute Weather Reports
Database, Enroute Airports Database and
NOTAM Filter Database.
Enroute Weather
Reports Database
You have five categories to choose from
in this database: Takeoff, Arrival, ETP,
Enroute and FP Special.
Weather report preferences for these five
categories can be selected from the same
GUI. The selections made will be applied
to that specific portion of the flight segment.
• Takeoff airports include your pointof-departure (POD) as well as any
departure alternates.
• Arrival airports include your point-ofarrival (POA) as well as any
arrival alternates.
• Enroute airports include all airports
that satisfy the airport and swath
requirements listed in the Enroute
Airports database, all FIR reports specified
in the Enroute Weather database and any
over water latitude/longitude points.

The Swath Width defines the distance
in nautical miles from either side of
the route of flight the system uses to
check for airports that meet all of the
other criteria. Think of the swath
width as defining an envelope around
the route of flight, and only airports
and Flight Information Regions (FIR)
that lie within that envelope are
considered for reporting weather
and NOTAMs.
The Minimum Runway Length
defines the minimum runway length
that an airport must have in order to
be considered. Airports with a runway
length less than what is specified here
will not be considered for the wxe output.
The Maximum Airport Elevation
defines the maximum elevation that an
airport may have in order to be
considered. Airports with an elevation
above MSL greater than what is specified
will not be considered for output.
These three parameters together define
which airports will be selected for
output by the system automatically.
Thus, if an airport is within the swath
width, has a runway length greater
than the minimum runway length and
has an elevation below the maximum
airport elevation then it will be
displayed in the wxe output.
The Airport List supercedes the other
three parameters and is used to specify
only those airports that will be
outputted if they meet the above three
criteria for swath width, runway length
and airport elevation. The airport list is
primarily used to substantially
decrease the amount of output you will
receive, or if you only want to see
weather and NOTAM information for
specific airports. Use of this list does
not affect the output for FIR areas,
such as FIR NOTAMs.
NOTAM Filter Database
In this database GUI, you have the
ability to filter the types of NOTAMs
that are outputted. You can filter in
several ways; by NOTAM Type, by
Q-Code, by Altitude, and by Days
of Operation.

to have either the Q2-3 codes or the
Q4-5 codes in the Q-line in order for
it to be outputted.
You have the ability to create and
apply numerous different NOTAM
filters for the various segments of
your flight. For example, you can use
certain filters for the departure and
arrival airports and different filters
for the enroute or ETP airports. The
NOTAMs, themselves, can be filtered
in various ways.
Filtering by NOTAM Type allows you
to select the types of NOTAMs that
are outputted. The list includes ICAO
Class 1 and 2, U.S. D, U.S. FDC,
SNOWTAM, NFDD, Military, Company
Internal, Government Published,
Jeppesen, Jeppesen Chart and
Jeppesen NavData NOTAMs. When
you select a NOTAM type, those
NOTAMs will be included in the
wxe output.
Filtering by Q-codes allows the most
comprehensive type of NOTAM filtering
available. Most NOTAMs issued have
what are known as Q-codes on the
Q-line in the ICAO International
format. In the example below
for KSFO:

The Q-line begins with the airport or
FIR identifier. In the case above,
KZOA, which is the FIR identifier for
the Oakland, California FIR, is
followed by the letter Q and then 4
characters. The first two characters
are known as Q2-3 and the last two
characters are known as Q4-5. The
NOTAM filter database GUI allows
you to select which Q2-3 codes and
Q4-5 codes you wish to have
outputted. The GUI lets you see what
type of facilities and operations are
described by the various Q-codes.
When you select a Q-code, NOTAMs
with those Q-codes will be displayed
Filtering by Altitude allows you to
define an altitude range for which you
wish to see NOTAMs. 000 defines the
surface and 999 defines the top of the
atmosphere.
Any
altitude
(in
hundreds of feet) in-between can be
used to restrict output. Some FIR and
FDC NOTAMs have the altitudes
defined where the NOTAM operation
pertains. In the example above for
KSFO, the altitude restriction defined
in the Q-line is 000-999, which means
there is no altitude restriction to this
NOTAM. If you only wish to see
NOTAMs above FL240, for example,
you could input 240 as the upper
bound in the altitude filter section.
Any NOTAM that has an upper
altitude defined below FL240 would
not be outputted.
Filtering by Days of Operation
allows you to restrict NOTAM output
based on days of the week. For example,
if your flight is on a Wednesday, you
could select Wednesday in the Days of
Operation filter. In this case, if a
particular NOTAM was issued that
only applied to Friday, you would not
receive it in your output. However, if
NOTAMs apply to every day of the
week, you would continue to
see those.

helps you manage the type and
amount of information you receive in
your enroute weather briefing in
order to better meet your operational

At this stage, no plans have been made to take over AOCs or the
licensing of crew.
EASA is part of a system consisting of member states, national
aviation authorities and European parliaments, all making up
the Advisory Board of Interested Parties (ABIP), which has a
temporary headquarters in Brussels.
There is strong representation from the corporate aviation
market, with members of the UK’s GAMTA, the General Aviation
Manufacturers and Traders Association, making up 5 out of the
21 seats available on ABIP.
ATHENS OLYMPICS 2004
Preliminary plans are underway in
preparation for next summer’s Olympic
Games. Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority
and Athens International Airport staff
members will be meeting in mid-May,
2003, to establish parking and slot
procedures for General Aviation aircraft.

Aeropuertos Internacional de Ezeiza (SAEZ) is approximately 3545 minutes from the city center of Buenos Aires. This airport
services commercial and corporate aircraft. It also serves as the
headquarters for Jeppesen’s Preferred Handler, Munser FBO of
Munser S.A. Munser, short for Mundial de Servicios (World
Services in Spanish) originated in 1992. Tito Zaninovich left Pan
Am as its youngest Director and founded Munser S.A. in
Argentina. Originally formed by a group of eight people servicing
American Airlines, Munser S.A. eventually added an important
portfolio of customers. Tito brought many experienced people to
Munser. These individuals obtained their experience from the
airline and corporate arenas.

required to satisfactorily complete an extensive training course.

Jeppesen Undergoes a Revision
Government and Military Aviation. In
addition to its aviation-related activities,
Jeppesen has also created a business
unit dedicated to its marine-specific
product offerings.
As
part
of
this
reorganization, there
have also been changes
to the leadership at
Jeppesen. Most notably,
Mark Van Tine has
been named President
and Chief Operating
Officer. He is responsible for the overall
management of Jeppesen, having
replaced Horst Bergmann, who retired
on May 1 after more than 40 years of
service with the company.
Mark began his career with Lockheed
DataPlan in 1981 and joined Jeppesen
when it acquired Lockheed in 1989. He
served as Managing Director of
DataPlan from 1991 until 1995, when
he relocated to Denver to assume
many of his current duties. Mark
received a B.S. in Aviation from San
Jose State University in 1980 and
is a graduate of the Harvard
School of Business Program for
Management Development.

Under the direction of Mexico-native
Leny Omilion, the Jeppesen Corporate
Flight Services’ Latin American sales
team is making its presence known in
that part of the world. Listed below are
just a few of the events and activities that
they have participated in over the last
few months.
AeroExpo
Acapulco 2003
This is Mexico's largest and most
important business and general aviation
show. AeroExpo, which took place in
early March, is held every two years,
alternating with the FIDAE show in
Chile. As always, our parent company,
Boeing, sported their handsome exhibit
booth to display the wares of their many
business units, such as commercial
aircraft, BBJ, parts and maintenance,
Preston Aviation Solutions and Jeppesen.
This show is put together by the
renowned Mexican aviation magazine
"Vuela". The entire event was held inside
a 45,000 square meter tent at the
Acapulco International Airport. The
With Mexico being one of the major
players in Latin American aviation,
participation in AeroExpo is very
beneficial for most businesses within the
industry. The warmth and beauty of the
city of Acapulco, combined with the
Mexican culture, provides an exquisite
ambiance for this event.
LABACE
Sao Paulo, Brazil
As
the
Latin
American aviation
market continues
to grow, the need
for a trade show
on the scale of an
EBACE, or even
NBAA, has become
apparent. Although the March show was
its
first,
LABACE’s
debut
was
impressively organized by NBAA and
ABAG. The Sao Paulo convention center
hosted some 100 exhibits. The static
displays, which represented numerous
corporate aircraft from the different
manufacturers, were situated at nearby
Guarulhos International Airport. In
addition to the host country of Brazil, the
2,500 attendees represented such
countries as Panama, Argentina,
Venezuela and Spain. LABACE is
definitely the start of something very
exciting for the local South American
market, especially for such key
aviation industry players as Brazil,
Chile and Venezuela.
Jeppesen Supports
Presidential Flights
In late January of this year, Jeppesen
Corporate Flight Services had the
pleasure of providing the international
trip planning support for the Mexican
Presidential Fleet. Jeppesen’s assistance
for President Vicente Fox’s travels to and
from the World Economic Forum in
Switzerland included flight planning,
ground handling and hotel coordination,
as well as fuel through Jeppesen World
Fuel Services. In addition to the
conference in Zurich, the President’s
Boeing 757 also made stops in Berlin,
Munich and Rotterdam.
In mid-February, Jeppesen was once
again honored by having the opportunity
to support the Chilean Air Force on their
Presidential flights throughout the
Pacific. The countries visited by
President Ricardo Lagos Escobar were
Australia, Japan and Guam. Services
provided by Jeppesen Corporate Flight
Services included flight planning and
ground handling arrangements for the
Chilean Air Force’s Boeing B737-500
Presidential aircraft.
