TRIBUTE TO OUR DONORS 37 The four Carnegie Museums are setting into motion new initiatives that create a more inclusive environment. One example is a new series of sensory-friendly events at The Andy Warhol Museum, where individuals with autism spectrum disorders and sensory sensitivities can enjoy the museum and participate in special programming. One activity uses portraits to identify and interpret facial expressions, a skill that can be challenging for those on the autism spectrum. 38 TRIBUTE TO OUR DONORS It was cool. From the restored history of Pittsburgh’s Hill District—made possible through the photography of Teenie Harris—to the personal history and worldwide appeal of Andy Warhol. In 2015, Carnegie Museums touched the lives of more than 1.4 million people through exhibitions, student programs, camps and classes, social gatherings, and special performances. All of it made possible by YOU, the members and donors of our Carnegie Museums community. And they bring more than 150 special exhibitions, films, theater shows, live performances, and other special experiences to Pittsburgh each year. So much to explore, thanks to our Carnegie Museums community of members and donors. And thanks to YOUR support, our museums are constantly rethinking what it means to explore, engage, and inspire. It can happen at a Saturday art class, a Harry Potter-themed summer camp, an over-21 night at the museums, or a concert in a museum gallery. 40 TRIBUTE TO OUR DONORS “SciTech Days gives students the opportunity to see science at work through hands-on, fun activities,” says Betsy Killmeyer, a teacher at St. Bede’s School in Point Breeze, who for 10 years has made the Science Center STEM program part of her curriculum.
