Dead Sea
Relish the peace and quiet of the desert
as you float effortlessly in the unique
mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea.
One of the most extraordinary places on
earth, known for it’s healing properties,
The Dead Sea is the ultimate destination
for pampering at excellent spas.
Mineral Beach
The Dead Sea region, despite its name, is
brimming with life and has inspired a feeling of
wellbeing amongst tens of thousands of tourists
and health spa enthusiasts from around the world.
At 400 meters below sea level (the lowest place
on earth!) you’ll find mineral-rich Dead Sea water,
health-giving and mineral-laden thermal springs
and the famous therapeutic black mud. Along
with all the health-enhancing properties, the
region is filled with opportunities for adventure,
exploration, touring and luxurious relaxation.
The water of the Dead Sea contains 21 minerals
including magnesium, calcium, bromide and
potassium. 12 of these are found in no other sea
or ocean and some are recognised for imparting
relaxation, nourishing the skin, activating the
circulatory system and for easing rheumatic
discomfort and metabolic disorders. The high
salt and mineral concentration enables everyone
to float in its waters but doesn’t allow the
proliferation of fish and other marine life.
There are a variety of hotels from small boutique
spa hotels to large 5 star deluxe hotels.

Things to do...
The most popular attraction at the Dead Sea is
the water itself and you will find that most hotels
have their own spas and access to the beach to
enable you to maximise your enjoyment.
No visit to the Dead Sea is complete without a
visit to the unique mountaintop fortress Masada,
fortified by King Herod around 35BC as a retreat
in case of a revolt.
At Ein Gedi Nature Reserve, visit the beautiful
fresh water springs and walk along the streams
lined with giant reed and cattail. Keep a look
out for Ibex and groups of Hyrax on the
surrounding cliffs.
Soak up some archaeology and discover the
ancient biblical history of the Dead Sea Scrolls
at the Qumran Caves.

The North
Relatively unknown to visitors from abroad but
popular with the locals, the north of Israel is a
rich and ancient world waiting to be discovered.
Home to many historic and biblical sites, and
many beautiful natural features, it also offers much
to those who wish to experience a more “off the
beaten track” style holiday, from wine tasting to
bird watching. It is home to the mystic town of
Safed, to Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee, both of
which are significant to both Jews and Christians.
Alternatively, you can visit the Druze village of
Daliat El Carmel, pamper yourself at one of the
exclusive spas in the region, or take a hike around
some of the most spectacular landscapes.
Golan Heights
Haifa is the third largest city in Israel, and is
home to the amazing Baha’i Gardens which roll
gently down the side of the Carmel Mountain
to the sea. Haifa is also home to a large port,
and is often a stopping place for cruise liners.
Its population is an eclectic mix of religions and
cultures living happily together in harmony.
Don’t forget to taste some of the local delicacies
in downtown Haifa, or visit some of the beautiful
beaches. For a little more culture, visit the Naval
Museum, or the Museum of Jewish Resistance,
and some of the local galleries. For those who
like a little more adventure, try taking the cable car
to the summit of Mt. Carmel!

a local nature park, and the final resting place of
Baron Edmund de Rothschild. The centre of the
town has been turned into a pedestrian area and
evokes the atmosphere of yesteryear, with many
quaint cafes, art galleries and shops.
As you catch your first glimpse of Tiberias
and the sparkling blue Sea Of Galilee, you can
understand why this area has been a popular
tourist spot for over 2000 years. Nature puts on its
finest show in this area with nature trails, wildlife
reserves and horseback riding all readily available.
Modern day Tiberias and the surrounding
shores of the Sea Of Galilee has something to
offer every visitor; historical sites, hot springs,
religious shrines, fun and adventure and a 32 mile
shoreline with every conceivable water-based
activity. Naturally, Tiberias attracts many pilgrims
who come to see the holy sites where Jesus
walked on water, the Church of Beatitudes and
the Church of the Apostles at Capernaum. It is
also one of the holy cities of Israel for the Jewish
religion and has a strong orthodox community.
Travelling outside the main town, you can get to
some of the outlying kibbutzim with relative ease,
and stop by the roadside for a picnic, or drive up
into the hills for terrific views over the water. Some
of the hotels in the area lie on the lakeside and
offer water activities.
Safed is a small but special town located
900 meters (3200 feet) above sea level in the
mountains of the Upper Galilee, it commands
Bahai Temple and Gardens
Further north, Rosh Hanikra is a majestic outpost on Israel’s northern
border with Lebanon. The natural rock formations jutting into the azure waters
of the Mediterranean are stunning. Take the cable car up the sheer cliffs,
and walk through the grottoes, then see the railway tunnel built during the
British Mandate (1923-1948).
Moving across the north, the Galilee is home to open green spaces and
indigenous wildlife. Grab a map of the area and rent a car and drive along
the northern highway and stop off at the breathtaking Keshet (Rainbow) cave.
Carry on eastward to reach the northernmost town of Kiryat Shmoneh, and
then on to the Hermon, which offers skiing in the winter, and hiking in the
summer. Hamat Gader is also worth a visit to take a dip in the hot springs
and visit the crocodile farm!
The Galilee really offers something for everyone, from hiking trails to five star
luxury spa retreats.
magnificent views east to the Golan, north to the Hermon, west to Mt. Meron,
and south to Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee. Safed is one of the four holy
cities in Israel, together with Jerusalem, Hebron and Tiberias. The old part
of town consists of narrow cobblestone alleys revealing artists’ galleries,
medieval synagogues, private homes and small guest houses. Despite its
small population (circa 27,000), Safed makes a spiritual mark on the map.
The famous mountain air is conducive to clear thinking and meditation.
The nearby forest and nature reserve provide the seclusion, serenity and
inspiration. A number of famous sages are buried in and around Safed and are
in themselves a reason to visit the area. For the more adventurous, the nature
reserves anywhere in the north are great for hiking. For example, just a half
hour’s walk from Safed’s Old City, depending on the time of year and amount
of rainfall, is a virtual paradise, resplendent with fruit trees, water pools and
olive groves.
Tiberias
Rosh Pina is a small pastoral village in the rural area of the Upper Galilee,
regarded by many as one of the most beautiful sites in Israel. Despite its
tiny size, Rosh Pina is a local cultural and recreation center and has many
restaurants, various coffee shops, many art galleries and a cinema. You can
tour the Restoration Site (a national historic site) with its lovely stone work.
Established in 1882, on the slopes of Mt. Canaan it is a recommended stop,
especially the old quarter, with its cobblestone streets. Some of the homes of
the pioneers have been restored in their original style. The quarter has attracted
many artists, who have made it their home, and one can visit studios and
galleries to view their work. The Baron’s Park, named after Baron de Rothschild
is beautiful, with an adjacent restaurant/pub overlooking the grounds.
The Hula Valley Nature Reserve, The Nature Reserve is dedicated to
preserving the indigenous plants and animals and to creating a safe haven
for migrating birds. Films and audio-visual presentations are shown in the
visitors’ center and guided tours depart frequently. The valley is one of the most
important stopover and wintering sites for southbound bird migrants through
the Great Rift Valley. It is here that complete populations of birds stop to “refuel”
before reaching the desert strip to the south.
Caesarea and Acre, lying on the Mediterranean coast both offer
archeological sites not to be missed. Caesarea is a largely exclusive residential
area, home to the only golf course in Israel. Visit the amphitheatre and
aqueduct built by King Herod. Today the amphitheatre is used to stage live
concerts. Acre is an ancient port city further to the north, built by the Crusaders,
and much of the original architecture is still in evidence today.

Kibbutz
Holidays
No visit to Israel is complete without a Kibbutz
experience. The Kibbutz movement provides
Israel’s largest, most widespread network of
hotels, holiday villages and country lodgings.

What is a Kibbutz?
The Kibbutz (plural Kibbutzim) is in essence a
blend of industrial and agricultural settlements run
entirely by its own members. It is the only form of
voluntary collective living in existence. The Kibbutz
movement started in the early 20th century by
pioneers who wanted a more egalitarian way of
life based on agriculture. They set up collective
communities in which each member worked
equal amounts; possessions and earnings were
shared, everyone ate together and children were
raised communally. Today there are approximately
270 Kibbutzim in Israel and although they are no
longer strictly collective communities their unique
atmosphere has been preserved as have the
original industries and agriculture. Each Kibbutz
has its own unique characteristics.

General information
Choosing your holiday
We hope that your Travelink holiday will live up to your
expectations so it is very important that you choose the
right holiday for you. Space in our brochure to give detailed
information is limited but there is more information online at
www.travelinkuk.com and our staff are always happy to advise
and give you their professional opinion.
Hotel Gradings
Choosing the right hotel can be a dilemma, there is no official
star rating in Israel (at the time of print). Standards can vary
between hotels of the same class in different countries, and
even in the same country. For example city hotels which often
cater for business as well as leisure travellers may well have
generally higher standards than a beach resort hotel where the
whole atmosphere tends to be more relaxed. It is important to
read carefully the individual hotel descriptions. A comparison
of the price against each hotel will also give some idea of how
hotels in the same resort/country are likely to compare in terms
of general standards.
Single rooms
If a single person occupies a double room they will usually be
asked to pay extra (single person supplement). Hotels price
their room, as double or family rooms and they do not reduce
rates if its occupied by a single person. The costs to the hotel of
providing the room - heating, lighting, cleaning etc are the same
regardless of how many people occupy the room. This also
applies to self-catering units where, for example, three people
may choose to occupy accommodation priced for four.
Twin or double rooms
Accommodation in all hotels, regardless of the rating, is in
standard rooms (sometimes named superior/deluxe) based on
twins or doubles unless otherwise stated.
Triple/Quad rooms
A third or fourth person sharing a room either shares an existing
bed or has an extra bed (which may be of camp-bed style)
placed in a double/twin room. As conditions may be cramped
you may wish to consider booking two rooms.
Travelling with children
If you are travelling with young children, it is important to note
that child seats are not provided for transfers or coach tours and
the legislation in Israel does not require this. If you specifically
require a car seat, we advise you to take your own.
Booking a room for early arrival or late departure
Generally hotel rooms will be available between approximately
noon and 3pm, and are to be vacated between 10am and
noon, irrespective of your arrival or departure times, unless we
have stated otherwise. Should you wish your room to be ready
prior to noon on your day of arrival or available after 10 am for
an afternoon or evening departure, it is possible to reserve the
room at the time of booing at a cost no greater than the extra
night price.
All inclusive hotels
All inclusive does not necessarily mean that unlimited food
and beverages are available 24-hours a day. Individual hotels
operate different policies and full details will be provided locally.
Tours – General health requirements
Please refer to our full booking conditions for details.
Children on holiday
Infants under the age of 2 years on the date of return flight pay
the relevant infant fare on the flights when travelling in economy.
Please note meals are not provided for infants. Infant charges
are based on an infant sitting on an adults lap and additional
charges will apply for infants requiring their own seat. There is
no entitlement to a separate seat on the aircraft if the flight is full.
International airline regulation allows only one infant per adult.
Any charge for a baby cot in the room and food are usually paid
by the guest direct to the hotel. We do not usually allow holidays
for children under 10 on escorted tours, unless a private tour.
Public holidays
Virtually all countries have public holidays, religious or otherwise.
The festivities may temporarily disrupt your holiday and
some religious holidays may result in a reduction of facilities,
entertainment and dietary restrictions. We suggest that you
take this into consideration when selecting your departure date.
Our sales team can advise the dates of religious holidays. The
appropriate tourist offices are happy to supply more detailed
information or you may wish to refer to the internet.
Other hotel guests
Many hotels, especially in cities and major resorts, accommodate
conventions and conferences. Also, at certain times of the
year, some destinations have an influx of groups such as
students, associations or clubs. We have no control over the
acceptance of bookings at the hotels we feature other than our
own. We are therefore unable to accept any responsibility for any
inconvenience caused by such groups or their activities.
Holiday Seasons
Most of the holidays/tours we feature are available all year
round. Some do have quieter ‘off peak’ periods when you can
take advantage of uncrowded beaches and more personal
attention from hotel staff at excellent prices. At this time it may
be necessary for hotels to scale down the size of some of
their facilities, such as restaurants, to match demand. Similarly,
during peak periods hotels experience full occupancy which
may result in a livelier atmosphere and slower service with busier
facilities. Most hotels have swimming pools, open mainly during
the summer months (April-October). However, pools in Eilat and
most pools in the Dead Sea are open all-year round.
Meals
Meals if included are usually buffet style with a selection of
dishes. Holidays which include main meals generally commence
with dinner on the day of arrival at your hotel and terminate with
breakfast (on half board) or lunch (on full board) on the day of
departure. All inclusive packages generally finish at check-out
time on your day of departure between 10am and noon. After this
time, payment of any additional meals must be made direct to the
hotel. No refunds on meals not taken can be given. Special diets
(including vegetarian) can often be catered for adequately within
the constraints of a buffet menu but cannot be guaranteed.
We would therefore strongly recommend that anyone with special
food requirements takes a holiday where no meals (or only
breakfast) are included and simply buys the most acceptable
dishes from the a la carte menu available locally. In some cases
you may find the cost of the meal cheaper locally, however we
regret that it will not be possible to refund the difference either
during or after your holiday. Pre-booked meals may be subject
to dining in the main restaurant only and on occasion it may be
necessary to be seated with other hotel guests. If you have paid
a half board supplement it may be possible in some hotels to ask
for a credit to be used against a meal in an a la carte restaurant.
However the value of the voucher will generally be considerably
less than the half board supplement included in your holiday price.
Flight seat requests, airlines and aircraft
We strongly recommend (particularly if you are flying economy
class), that you check in early if you have particular seat requests.
Travelink has no control over the allocation of seats by the airline
and even if a request has been made with the airline to prebook
seats, no guarantee can be made that they will still be available
on departure. The provision of particular seats does not constitute
a term of your contract with us. Although some airlines offer the
facility to book seats online, this is not always possible when
booking a holiday through us, as the holidays we offer are based
on special Tour Operator fares. Please refer to our full booking
conditions for more detailed information regarding flights.
‘No frills’ Carriers
We provide a choice of scheduled and ‘no frills’ carriers to take
advantage of the flexibility and pricing available. You should
note that ‘no frills’ flights do not include in flight meals. It may
occasionally be necessary to charge a higher deposit due to a
fluctuation in airfares, details of which would be advised to you
at the time of booking.
Excursion / meal packages
Excursion tours or transfers which are offered are not always
cheaper than buying the same arrangements locally. It is often
the case that these packages are offered for the convenience
of being both booked and paid for in the UK. The cost of any
unused services cannot be refunded.
‘From Prices’
Travelink offers you the flexibility to create your own holiday from
the range of accommodation and services available. Because
of the wide choice, it is not possible to list every price on every
date. A ‘from’ price is indicative of the lowest prices available for
the hotel or itinerary featured but this may vary depending on
a number of factors such as your date of travel and choice of
accommodation. To help you in choosing a holiday which is tailor
made by us to your requirements, please call our sales team, or
visit your travel agent for further information about services and
prices. We will be happy to provide you with an up to date quote.
Building and development work
Many hotels and resorts are continuing to develop sometimes
rapidly and intensively and often with little or no advance
warning. Whilst we have no control over such work, as a
responsible tour operator, it is important to us that you are aware
that any significant building/refurbishment at hotels is necessary
to maintain standards but if we are informed of such work we will
endeavour to notify you of this as soon as possible.
Miscellaneous Information
Some tours and excursions maybe subject to a minimum
number of participants for its operation. Please refer to our full
booking conditions for more information. It is a condition of
booking that you take out suitable travel insurance; we can offer
a very competitive policy with high cover for travel to Israel.
