If you have questions about the Côtes de Provence region, rosé, or any of our participating domaines, please use the contact information on the back cover to follow up with us. Roque Pertusa President, Provence Wine Council A Burgeoning Market Dry rosé is experiencing a global rebirth. In the U.S., retail sales of imported rosé have seen dynamic growth for six years running, with sales in 2010 growing at an even faster pace than in the prior year. Imported rosé sales increased 22.3% on dollars in 2010, compared to only 4.2% for total table wine sales.° And exports of rosé and red wines to the U.S. from Provence jumped nearly 132% by value and 85% by volume from 2009 to 2010.* Projections by Vinexpo and other organizations show this trend continuing. American wine drinkers are discarding the misperception that rosé is the same as sweet blush wine, which contains much higher levels of residual sugar. ° The Nielsen Company *Data from the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins de Provence 3 François Millo Director, Provence Wine Council About Côtes de Provence Provence is the world’s only region specializing in dry rosé. The vast majority of its rosés come from the Côtes de Provence AOC, the largest and best-known winemaking appellation in Provence. Côtes de Provence stretches from the alpine hills of the north to Saint-Tropez on the southern coast, and extends west to Aix-enProvence. It encompasses several winegrowing areas, each with geographical features that give the wines distinct personalities. Côtes de Provence vineyards also yield full-bodied reds and delicate whites. About Rosé Wine Rosé is a category of wine that stands alongside red and white. Like red wines, rosés are made from red grapes. But whereas red wines are made by allowing the juice and skins to commingle during fermentation, rosé producers allow only a limited period of skin contact before separating the pink-tinted juice from the grape skins and then beginning fermentation. The pigment and tannins in the skins give the dry rosé its color, aroma, and character. Provençal winemakers make rosé by producing single-variety rosés in individual vats. The final cuvée is assembled from these batches. The most common grapes used are Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, Mourvedre, Tibouren, Carignan, and Cabernet Sauvignon. 4 Château de Berne — Château de Berne Cuvée Spéciale APPELLATION: Côtes de Provence U.S. IMPORTER VINTAGE: 2010 La Ville Imports Inc. 115 Herricks Road Garden City Park New York, NY 11040 Tel: 516 322 0663 Fax: 516 747 3591 www.lavilleimports.com TYPE: Rosé GRAPE VARIETIES: 60% Grenache, 40% Cinsault TECHNICAL NOTES: Eyes: A beautiful clear rose petal color with hints of orange.
