project at Fluvanna
Correctional Center for Women
provides services to the Virginia
Department for the Blind and
Vision Impaired and other clients.
Transcription services range from
kindergarten to university level
texts. The program also produces
braille versions of brochures and other
short publications. Nemeth (braille
mathematics) transcription is also
provided.

the Library of Congress. We expect to have several
transcribers certified in Formats 2011, Nemeth, and
Proofreading by early 2015.

files. We are able to emboss small projects in-house.

Certified CAD Operators.

License Plates are the iconic correctional industries
product. Working with our sister agency the Virginia
Department of Motor Vehicles, VCE makes more than 300
different License Plate designs. Additionally, VCE provides
custom license plates for Volunteer Fire Departments and
Rescue Squads as well as the Virginia Marine Resources
Commission and Diplomatic Plates for the Office of
Foreign Mission a division of the US State Department.
Volunteer Fire
A souvenir copy of any Virginia license plate design
may be ordered from the Virginia Department of Motor
Vehicles using their web site www.dmv.virginia.gov.
Ornamental souvenir plates are sold as single plates and
cost $10.00 each. You may personalize your souvenir
plate for an additional fee of $10.00. Remember, these
are ornamental souvenirs and may not be displayed on
your vehicle.

Overview

prescription eyeglass services. VCE Optical is the
eyewear provider for VADOC, DJJ, and major Virginia
not-for-profit organizations. The VCE Lab provides
training as Dispensing Opticians under the Virginia
Apprenticeship Council, and works closely with the
VADOC Division of Education’s Optical Technologies
program.
VCE Optical employs between five and ten offenders,
and over seventy women
have participated in the program since 2002. The Lab
produces over 6,000 pair of Rx eyeglasses annually.
Our Lab uses modern equipment that is often found in
optical super-stores, and many of our ex-offenders are
employed in private industry.
