Department Set to Dismantle
KSC Junior Complex
Kyneton Secondary College looks set
to lose its Junior Complex as the
Department of Education and Early
Childhood plans to remove two of the
relocatable buildings that make up the
complex. Principal, Mark Ridgeway
said that the Department is short of
classrooms in some of the rapid
growth areas of Melbourne and is
solving the problem by taking buildings
from schools where they are regarded
as ‘excess to entitlement’.
The complex was set up to be used as
a permanent facility and opened by the
then Minister of Education, Joan
Kirner in 1989.
In a ground breaking initiative it was
planned and used as an area of
dedicated classrooms, care and
facilities for junior students.
Pam Macdonald, Assistant Principal at
Kyneton emphasized the importance
of the complex in delivering the
school’s Junior program.
“Our Junior Program has been an
essential part of our school for over
20 years” she said.
“Whilst we can relocate the Junior
program to other parts of the school,
our Junior Complex is the single best
place we have in the College to run
the program. We have missed out on
BER money, the KEP (Kyneton
Education Plan) was shelved and now
we are missing out again and seeing
our facilities dismantled.
“We would love new buildings – like
other local schools have, but in the
meantime we want to keep what we
have.”
Published each even month
Mr Ridgeway said that extensive
repairs and upgrades have been
carried out on the complex in the past
twelve months with more work
planned. “Although the complex is
looking a little tired, we have spent
well over $100,000 on much needed
repairs, renovations and upgrades.
“I am very disappointed that the
Department is seeing fit to remove the
buildings at this point in time. Apart
from the money we have spent on the
complex, we are hopeful of receiving
some positive news regarding the KEP
in the lead-up to next state election
and that to me would seem a more
sensible time to then start talking
about dismantling the complex” he
said.
The College’s appeals to the
Education Department and to the
Region have been to no avail. They are
yet to hear if the Minister will
intervene.
The classrooms are expected to be
removed before the start of the 2014
school year.
Austin 7s Invade Kyneton
Local residents could have been
forgiven for thinking they had taken a
step back in time between November
1 and November 5 - everywhere they
went they saw vintage Austin 7s.
Kyneton’s Don and Jessie Smith
wished to contribute to local tourism
and were hosting a five day visit by the
Victorian Austin 7 Club.
All up 50 Club members with 24
superbly kept Austin 7s came to
Kyneton, stayed at the Bushland
Resort and took in local attractions.
The visit concluded with a grand
dinner at the Kyneton Zetland Lodge.

Cobaw Evolving and Expanding
Physio Fermi with client Catherine
Cobaw Community Health’s allied
health team of 12 has relocated into
the space formerly used as the
Thomas Hogan Wing at Kyneton
Hospital in Caroline Chisholm Drive.
Cobaw is already a key allied health
care provider for patients at the
hospital, providing physiotherapy,
occupational therapy, and dietician and
diabetes education services. The move
will provide easier access between
patients and Cobaw staff, as well as a
link to Cobaw’s extended support
services where they are needed.
Exercise physiology, podiatry and
expansion to existing services that
attract Medicare and private health
insurance rebates are part of the
service expansion plan, which includes
the hospital site growing into a Health
and Well-being Precinct, retaining the
centre of town Kyneton presence and
developing stronger partnerships with
Macedon Ranges Health and Romsey
Lancefield Community Bank to
improve coverage across the region.
“This move to locate some services at
the hospital site is part of our ambition
to not only expand services in the
region, but to improve the facilities
and accommodation to ensure it’s up
to standard and accessible,” CEO Ann
McLennan said.
Ms McLennan stressed that the
relocation of some Cobaw services to
Caroline Chisholm Drive was not an
amalgamation with Kyneton District
Health Service, but a partnership
arrangement to better meet the needs
of the local community.

Manse to be Sold
Interim Hospital CEO
The Board of the Kyneton District
The Uniting Church Manse in Ebden
St is to be sold.
The local parish committee decided in
the first half of this year that when
minister Phil Lyles retired the manse
would be sold and the proceeds used
to purchase a new more modern
residence for the incoming minister.
Cost of upkeep of the historic
bluestone manse was a key reason for
the decision to sell it.
The sale is not part of the enforced
sale of some Uniting Church
properties across the State due to
significant financial problems resulting
from a failed school project in outer
Melbourne.
The Manse section of the Ebden St
property is currently being subdivided
from the Church and hall on the title
to enable its sale.

process.

very impressive candidates” KDHS
President Graham Jasper said.
It is planned for Mr. Taylor to remain

Christmas Toy Shop Donations
Showgrounds Master Plan
The Combined Churches of the
Macedon Ranges are again organising
a Christmas “Toy Shop” for families
living in the Shire who might struggle
to afford a Christmas gift for their
child. Each year over 100 local
families, and 250 children are assisted.

this important initiative possible. We
require donations of toys for boys
and girls aged 0-18. Gifts need to be
new and valued around $20. We also
welcome donations of books, plush
toys and smaller items that would be
suitable as stocking fillers. We fall
short in gifts, books and stocking
fillers for older children each year”

donations to Cobaw Community
Health in High St or call Georgina
(0404442891) who will arrange pick

More than 4000 people attended the
Kyneton Show on Nov 15 & 16. The
crowd has been steadily building each
year with people coming from far and
wide to celebrate and experience the
fun of one of Victoria’s best country
shows.
The Kyneton Agricultural Society has
been very focused on providing
traditional show experiences such as
the animals and the amazing Arts and
Craft Pavilion and are very pleased
with increased participation.
This year cattle numbers increased to
over 100 and the Dog Show drew over
700 dog entries making it the second
largest dog show in Victoria.
The Arts and Craft Pavilion
was
overflowing with displays of everything
from rhubarb to writing, wool to wine,
knitting to baking, lego to flowers, and
photography to painting.
Almost 200 children entered items into
the pavilion this year.
The family free area provided an
endless range of free and fun activities
all day long with the highlight being the
O’Sullivan and Benn Bike Emporium.
“The Kyneton Agricultural Committee
has been overwhelmed by the positive
feedback from this year’s show.
“We now have people asking if they
can join the Committee and that is
really the best outcome possible. It is a
massive effort for all the volunteers
involved and extra people power will
ensure the show can keep getting
bigger and better” Secretary Josie
Rutledge said.
A grant of $500,000 promised during
the election, to assist with the
construction of the $1.2m Kyneton
Community Park was confirmed by the
Federal Government in Canberra last
week.
The Kyneton Community Park
Committee are continuing to fundraise
and launched their new Friends
program at their Picnic in the Park on
Nov 24.
