Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club shines in an area rich with golf history and
tradition. The Classic Georgian-style hotel and recently restored Donald

project that was designed to recapture the original design tenets while
upgrading the turf grass with the finest grass possible. Mid Pines offers four

that has been given to The Resort Course at Talamore since it’s opening in
1991. Talamore has been ranked in the forefront of outstanding courses in the
Pinehurst area; an area which has been known for its golfing traditions for
over a century. Architect Rees Jones brought his considerable talents back to
Pinehurst to design a course that would be visually striking and exceptionally
enjoyable. The result was a course that was ranked in the top 5 new courses
in America and Best New Course in the South by Golf Digest. Talamore’s
layout features 180 feet in elevation change, offering a rare glimpse at some
of the area’s rolling topography. You will enjoy this stroll through the pines and

The Southern Pines Golf Club was established in 1906 with the beginning
construction of nine holes designed by the world-renowned golf course
architect, Donald Ross. The additional nine holes were added in 1912 to
complete this links-style layout, which has been largely untouched to this
day. The golf course winds its way through pristine longleaf pines and
brilliant, colorful azaleas. Wonderful conditions complement the signature
traits of Ross’ undulating greens and creative bunkering. After more than

In 2013, Whispering Woods underwent a greens renovation that upgraded the

I’m giving my number one vote to Tobacco Road, because it was
the course that transformed what I understood to be possible
with golf architecture. There are several very creative contemporary
golf architects recognized on my list, whose egos really don’t need
stroking. Creative and imaginative they may be, but Mike Strantz was all that
and a genius to boot. He had the nerve and commitment to try things that others
would never dare to. He was the Evel Knievel of golf architects, always looking to
jump more buses than anyone thought possible. Sometimes he didn’t make the jump
and metaphorically splattered himself all over the field, but he never stopped trying to
push the boundaries and ‘The Road’ is his masterpiece. The most entertaining and
inspirational course I have ever played.

Two classic 18 hole courses designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The Lake
Course features ultra dwarf Mini Verde Bermuda greens and the Creek Course
features Crenshaw Bent Grass greens and over-seeded fairways. Both courses
have hosted numerous events including the U.S. Women’s Open qualifier,
Men’s ACC Golf Championship and the Lee County Amateur Championship. In
the Fall of 2015, the Lake Course reopened after laser leveling tees, replacing
bunkers, building new concrete cart paths and improving the landscape.
Facilities include: driving range, practice bunkers, a large putting green and
short game area. Enjoy both courses (replay fee $35), have lunch, all without
moving the car.

with the opening of Anderson Creek Golf Club. His first signature design was
voted the “Best New Course in NC” in 2001 and is currently ranked in NC’s
