South Stormont is one of six municipalities located in the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. The residents of South Stormont enjoy exceptional quality of life and an efficient local government. We are best known for our historical attributes and strong tourism opportunities. South Stormont is home to approximately 12,500 people that enjoy a mix of rural and urban lifestyles, an excellent health centre, positive population growth and much more. and Highway 401 corridor contribute to the increasing reasons why South Stormont is a great place to do business. The Township is governed by a five member municipal Council consisting of a Mayor, Deputy Mayor and three Councillors. The municipality is responsible for fire and rescue services, local planning, local by-laws and permits, local roads, recreation and culture. We also handle waste management, water and sewer and economic development. South Stormont is located just one hour south of Canada’s Capital, Ottawa and one hour east of Montreal. The Township is 1 hour west of Montreal, 1 hour south of Ottawa, and 4 hours from Toronto. Located in the heart of Canada’s highway and rail corridor route, South Stormont provides easy and efficient access to three of the nation’s four principal metropolitan markets. South Stormont has international access too. There are bridge crossings in Cornwall, 10 minutes east, and at Johnstown, 30 minutes west. These two international access points to the United States is within a few hours’ drive of Syracuse, Buffalo, Boston and New York. Railway The Canadian National Railway line runs through South Stormont, east to west, right through Ingleside and Long Sault. There may be opportunity to utilize the railway to transport goods. Airport The Ottawa International Airport and Montreal’s Pierre Elliot Trudeau International airport are both within an hour’s drive of South Stormont. Both these facilities have undergone extensive renovations and can boast state of the art medical facilities. Recreation and Culture The South Stormont Parks and Recreation Department is proud to work with a variety of organizations and volunteers to offer a wide range of facilities and programs to serve both local residents and visitors looking for recreational activities. Since the development of the Recreation Master Plan in 2009, the Township has been focused on a number of strategic projects. The focus of these projects has been to preserve current facilities with timely renovations while enhancing recreational activities through new programs and construction of additional amenities. South Stormont has a strong volunteer base with a commitment to offer a wide variety of activities and programs for those of all ages. The Township is proud of the approximately 96 volunteer firefighters who are highly trained and led by our Fire Chief. Greyline Instruments, 16456 Sixsmith Drive, Long Sault Industrial flow and level monitoring instruments for measurement and control in water and wastewater treatment are developed are manufactured at Greyline Instruments. Industrial process automation for environmental monitoring is also an integral part of the Greyline Instruments portfolio. In more than 35 countries worldwide, they supply information, technology, and advanced materials solutions to meet global customer needs. UAP Logistics Distribution Centre, 16290 County Road 36 UAP Inc. is the most recent addition to our business community. It is a new Logistics Centre in Long Sault, located just a few minutes west of Cornwall. With a surface of 200,000 sq. ft., the new efficient and spacious non-application products logistics centre will hold more than 30,000 parts in stock, including chemical, accessories, hardware, tools and equipment as well as paint, body and equipment products. - 16 - KEY DEVELOPMNET CONTACTS FOR ASSISTANCE Eastern Ontario Development Fund (EODF) The EODP supports regional economic development by creating jobs, attracting private sector investment and promoting innovation, collaboration and cluster development in Eastern Ontario. The fund is a discretionary, non-entitlement program with limited funding.
