INTRODUCTION
Welcome to South Stormont!
South Stormont is one of six
municipalities located in the United
Counties of Stormont, Dundas and
Glengarry. The residents of South
Stormont enjoy exceptional quality of
life and an efficient local government.
We are best known for our historical
attributes and strong tourism
opportunities. South Stormont is home
to approximately 12,500 people that
enjoy a mix of rural and urban
lifestyles, an excellent health centre,
positive population growth and much
more.

The Township is governed by a five
member municipal Council consisting of
a Mayor, Deputy Mayor and three
Councillors. The municipality is
responsible for fire and rescue services,
local planning, local by-laws and
permits, local roads, recreation and
culture. We also handle waste
management, water and sewer and
economic development.
South Stormont is located just one hour
south of Canada’s Capital, Ottawa and
one hour east of Montreal. Easy access
to the CN Railway, St. Lawrence River

TRANSPORATION AND COMMUNICATION
Transportation
Highway
South Stormont is situated on the broad St. Lawrence River, west of the City of
Cornwall, a community of just under 50,000. The Township is 1 hour west of
Montreal, 1 hour south of Ottawa, and 4 hours from Toronto. Located in the heart
of Canada’s highway and rail corridor route, South Stormont provides easy and
efficient access to three of the nation’s four principal metropolitan markets.
South Stormont has international access too. There are bridge crossings in
Cornwall, 10 minutes east, and at Johnstown, 30 minutes west. These two
international access points to the United States is within a few hours’ drive of
Syracuse, Buffalo, Boston and New York.
Railway
The Canadian National Railway line runs through South
Stormont, east to west, right through Ingleside and Long Sault.
There may be opportunity to utilize the railway to transport
goods.
Airport
The Ottawa International Airport and Montreal’s Pierre Elliot Trudeau International
airport are both within an hour’s drive of South Stormont.

health professional, who can assess your symptoms and help you decide your best
first step.
They can help you decide whether to care for yourself, make an appointment with
your doctor, go to a clinic, contact a community service or go to
a hospital emergency room. You do not need to provide your
health insurance number and all information is confidential.

Recreation and Culture
The South Stormont Parks and Recreation Department is proud to work with a
variety of organizations and volunteers to offer a wide range of facilities and
programs to serve both local residents and visitors looking for recreational
activities.
Since the development of the Recreation Master Plan in 2009, the Township has
been focused on a number of strategic projects. The focus of these projects has
been to preserve current facilities with timely renovations while enhancing
recreational activities through new programs and construction of additional
amenities. South Stormont has a strong volunteer base with a commitment to
offer a wide variety of activities and programs for those of all ages. Along with the
many facilities and programs is a long list of recreational attractions that include:

Fire and Emergency Services
South Stormont Fire Protection Services covers an area of 509 square kilometers
containing some 5,200 structures. The Township is proud of the approximately 96
volunteer firefighters who are highly trained and led by our Fire Chief. Emphasis is
placed on training to ensure that the community continues to receive the high
level of service it has come to expect.

Kraft is one of Canada’s largest companies and has an
impressive portfolio of brands that people love. These
include, the famous Kraft Dinner, Jell-O, Cracker
Barrel and Kraft peanut butter. South Stormont is
proud to have Kraft as part of our community
employing over 400.
Greyline Instruments, 16456 Sixsmith Drive, Long Sault
Industrial flow and level monitoring instruments for measurement and control in
water and wastewater treatment are developed are manufactured at Greyline
Instruments. Industrial process automation for environmental monitoring is also
an integral part of the Greyline Instruments portfolio.
SABIC Innovative Plastics, 1 Structured Products Drive
SABIC Innovative Plastics is a world leader in providing
engineering thermoplastic material solutions. In more than 35
countries worldwide, they supply information, technology, and
advanced materials solutions to meet global customer needs.
UAP Logistics Distribution Centre,

UAP Inc. is the most recent addition to our business
community. It is a new Logistics Centre in Long Sault,
located just a few minutes west of Cornwall.
With a surface of 200,000 sq. ft., the new efficient
and spacious non-application products logistics centre
will hold more than 30,000 parts in stock, including
chemical, accessories, hardware, tools and equipment
as well as paint, body and equipment products.

Eastern Ontario Development Fund (EODF)
The EODP supports regional economic development by
creating jobs, attracting private sector investment and
promoting innovation, collaboration and cluster
development in Eastern Ontario. The fund is a discretionary, non-entitlement
program with limited funding. There are two funding streams, one for established
businesses and a regional stream for economic development organizations
including municipalities.

The Eastern Ontario Development Program (EODP) is a
