Accommodation Guide
The city of Newport and the ancient Roman town of Caerleon
are surrounded by beautiful countryside, and provide a
convenient base for visitors, and from which to explore South
East Wales.
The area boasts a fascinating history, with it's castles, ancient Roman fortress
town, and industrial heritage and there are spectacular landscapes on our
doorstep, in the Wye Valley and Vale of Usk, the ancient Forest of Dean and
the Brecon Beacons. Business and leisure visitors have a wide choice of
accommodation from which to choose, ranging from the luxury of a five star
resort to a functional budget hotel and the personal touch of a small B&B.
The excellent sporting facilities draw national and international participants
and visitors, including Olympic athletes preparing for the 2012 games.
In 2010, Newport will be proud to host one of the world’s largest sporting
events, The Ryder Cup, at The Celtic Manor Resort, and the year-long
Newport Festival 2010 is planned to celebrate the occasion with a full
programme of events in and around the city. Visitors, then, can expect
“Croeso Cynnes”, a warm Welsh welcome.
The city is easily
accessible by road,
air and rail, being
only around fortyfive minutes drive
from both Cardiff
and Bristol airports
and less than two
hours by train from
London. It is also
well connected to
the national
motorway network,
via the M4.

Caerleon
Just north of Newport is the fortress town of Caerleon, the most varied and interesting
Roman site in Britain. The National Roman Legion Museum, the Baths complex, the
Roman barrack block, and the impressive Amphitheatre all bring the story of the
Roman garrison to life. Legend has it that Caerleon was the first of King Arthur's
courts, the Amphitheatre allegedly being the site of the Round Table. Caerleon today
hosts the Caerleon Arts Festival each summer, and is a charming walled town with
accommodation, pubs and places to eat.
