THE NEW UNIVERSITY
The Criteria for selecting the teams was (1) conference standing; (2) won and lost record; (3) tournament results; (4) comparative scores; (5) eligibility of student-athletes for NCAA competition.
In the first game against UC Berkeleythe Anteateio
were defeated in overtime play by the score of 5-4.
Late in the 3rd quarter UCI was down by two with
the score 4-2. Mike (the rat) Martin scored on a free
shot and Dale Hahn added a goal, his second for the
game to tie the score four all. Jim (Bradby) Bradburn scored one goal and Rich Eason played a fine
defensive game in this game and all other in the

tournament games theyplayed.
The second game played by Irvine was a victory
against Colorado State. The final score was 10-5.
Irvine's coach Ed Newland, in order to prevent the
entire demolishing of Colorado, put in the second
squad. Dwane (Raisen Eyes) Olson and another Reserve Steve (The Mortician) Balback played good ball
and aided in posting the victory.
The third game brought another victory to Irvine
with a win against USC. The game was a wellbalanced and executed one. At the half the score was
tied 2-2. Goalie Don Ronaldson played well and is
responsible largely for the low scores of all three
games. In the game before UCI, USC was defeated
late in the 4th by number one rated UCLA by one

On the weekend of Nov. 28-29 the Irvine water
polo team captured 5th placein theNationalCollegiate
Water Polo Championship.It was hosted byCalifornia
State College, Long Beach, at the Belmont Plaza
Pool, Long Beach.

Irvine's entire team will be returning with the exception of All-American Steve Farmer.
