Newsletter March/ April 2013
On February Thursday 14th the Richmond Information Community Centre
held a special Tet/ Chinese New Year celebration. There were many requests
from the community for this event to celebrate the New Year with live
performances from local residents.
On the day there was live music, dancing, singing and a rose for the female
members in the audience to celebrate Valentines day as well.
We thank everyone for being involved, their organisation and support.

News from the Richmond Housing Office
New Development Elizabeth Street
The new 207 unit development in Elizabeth Street is almost finished and in
the next few weeks tenants will start to move in. I’m sure you’ll agree that
the new building looks fantastic and is a wonderful addition to the Estate.
This is a very exciting time for almost 100 households moving from their
current unit into a fantastic new apartment across the road. We will also be
welcoming many new families onto our Estate – people who have been on
the public housing waiting list – often for a very long time.
Please make our new tenants feel very welcome!
Painting Project
You may notice over the next few weeks a group of people painting the base
of your building. This group are part of a project team working with Mission
Australia to repaint the undercroft areas of the 4 high-rise towers along
Elizabeth Street.
All of our painters are public housing residents, some from Richmond, and
we are very grateful to them for the work they are doing to improve the
appearance of the Estate. Along the way, they will also pick up skills and
training to assist them to gain employment.
Masterplanning
As you may already know, the Department is undertaking a Masterplanning
process on the Richmond Estate to plan for how the Estate may look in 15
or 20 years time. Through this process, we will look at issues such as how we
can improve safety and security, how we create better outdoor recreational
spaces and ways to make the estate more liveable for older tenants.
Please be assured that:
• There will be no reduction in the number of public housing units
• There are no plans to demolish the towers
• There are no plans to remove residents from the Estate
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Kate Wait,
Renewal Manager on 9419 5174.
