The last 2 years you received our “T” Collectors Magazine 4 times on yearly base, I
will changed the continuation from our magazine too 6 times a year. Every 2 months
you will received a new magazine. So we are more up to date with the new teabags
Since a short time I have more free time to make our magazine.
In magazine nr 9 I told you that I would made an overview from the new lipton’s
with a proverb. It is very pity that I didn’t get any response on my question to give
me all the proverbs which are standing on those teabags. My decision is too make
the list for next magazine, so all of us have time to check the collection and write
me those proverbs and tell me too by which taste the proverbs belongs.
You can read in this magazine about the new teabags, differences of the teabags,
my story from a teabagcollector from Danmark, Royal Garden Tea Party, the legend
of emperor Shen Nung, and ofcourse part 4 of the teabag catalogue. Also a new
item in this magazine: Looking for. Here you can ask for some teabags which you like to have. Or if you miss
some teabags from a serie. I started this item with the foil teabags from Leros.
Don’t hesitate to send me articles or ideas for the magazine, because this magazine is for all teabag

And as the time went by, I have exchanged a lot,
and now I can’t stop doing it, I exchange a lot with
many collectors, and will do it most more in the
future with some from all around the world.
Hi,
My name is Mette Olesen, and I am from Denmark.
I am collector of teabags, and I love this hobby. I
have been collecting in around 2 years now, and
the collection is growing a lot at the moment.
I exchange with some from the Netherlands, Czech
Republic, Belgium and from many others
countries.
When I started collecting teabags, it was very
exciting how many there was, and how many new
one I will in the beginning from friends and family,
I got more curious on how many new ones I got,
and started finding some one on internet of
others, who also have the same hobby as me.
My family thought in the beginning, that was a
strange hobby, and at this the time, they are
thinking my hobby is okay, and they think it is a
fun hobby with all those teabags as I collect and
they are happy for me. And they collect teabags
together to me and my collection, and that is
great for me.

Early tea time stories.
The Emperor Sheng Nung
This story begins about four and a
half thousand years ago. In 2737 BC
the Chinese Emperor Shen Nung
discovered tea.
He was a fastidious man, who
always had his drinking water boiled
to protect him from the waterborne
diseases like cholera and typhoid.

One day while he was visiting the
provinces, Shen Nung asked his
servants to boil water for him.
They made a fire using branches
from a nearby camelia bush.Some
of the ends of the branches
escaped the fire and extended
upward. Caught by a passing breeze
a few branches floated down in the
heating water.The Emperor smelled
the aroma and drank the mixture.
He immediately knew that he had
discovered something of very great
importance.
Although the Chinese were familiar
with camelia leaves, they had
never been used as an ingredient of
a hot and refreshing drink. News
of the Emperors discovery spread
quickly throughout the country, and
soon everyone was trying the
beverage. Due to this discovery,
tea became a very important part
of Chinese culture.
The status of tea increased as the
centuries passed and trade with the
West opened up. During the reign
of Queen Elizabeth I tea was
introduced to Continental Europe,
but is first did reach English shores
about 1657-1660. The Dutch
brought the tea to the continent,
the Russians knew it before the
English, and so did the Portugese.
The first mention of tea in Europe is
in Navigatione e Viaggi by the
Venetian Gian Battista Ramusio in
1559. When tea was finally
introduced to the English, it was
hard to sell, because it was very
expensive. It was so precious that it
was kept in specially made and
beautifully decorated wooden

boxes.The turning point came when
King Charles II ascended the
throne. He used to drink tea
throughout the day, he specially
liked green teas. Firstly the court
adopted his habit and afterwards
the entire country.
The East India Company
The East India Company was
founded by the Royal Charter of
Queen Elizabeth I on December 31,
1600. The Company had the
monopoly on all trade in the East
Indies. Although it traded all kinds
of goods, we are most interested in
tea. Green tea predominated at
first, but from the 1760 black tea
became more popular. Commercial
tea cultivation in India and Ceylon
was a late nineteenth-century
develop-ment. Until then, tea
meant China. The Dutch East India
Company was founded in 1602
and remained
active until 1800. It was also called
VOC. The Dutch government also
allowed the VOC extensive powers
in Asia.

The Boston Tea Party
Until the late eighteenth century
tea was very popular in the
American Colonies. But when King
George III decided to use tea as a
source of revenue and raise import
tax on tea
sent to the colonies, the Americans
rebelled.
At the Boston Tea Party of 1773,
colonists dressed up as Indians
threw 3 ship loads of tea bricks into
Boston Harbour.

The fact that the East India
Company had the monopoly was the
cause of the Boston Tea Party.
Afternoon Tea
Anna the seventh Duchess of
Bedford introduced Afternoon Tea.
In her days, the upper class ate a
huge breakfast, little lunch and a
very late dinner. Every afternoon,

preference for coffee in the U.S.
the dutchess was fainted with
hunger. One afternoon she asked
her servants
to
serve tea
and little cakes in her boudoir. This
experience was a great success.

The Days of the Tea Clippers
During the middle of the nineteenth
century, tea was so popular that
companies raced each other to
deliver the goods. Special stream
lined ships were built with many sails
to speed them a long. The most

famous is the Cutty Sark, which still
exist now a days, and is moored in
London in a dry dock. Unfortunately
in May this year a fire broke out and
it destroyed the ship.
During the 1800’s, tea clippers raced
from China to London and
other ports.The first clipper to arrive
with its cargo fetched the highest
prices.

Ice Tea
In 1904, visitors to the Louisiana
Purchase Exposition sweltered in a
heat wave and they refused to drink
the hot tea, that was being served.
A representative of the tea growers,
the Englishman Richard Blechynden,
tried to pour tea over ice and this
resulted in Ice Tea, which is very
popular in America.

The first teabag
The fame of black tea is mainly due to
the invention of the teabag in 1904 by
New York Tea Merchant
Thomas Sullivan, At first he only
wanted to provide samples, packed
in silk or muslin pouches, but the
customers forgot to take the pouches off
and put them directly in the teapots.
Before long, teabags had become a
widely accepted means of packaging tea.

Royal Garden Tea Party
In the queue before a cup
of tea.
About eight thousand people standing in a
queue before a cup of tea is only possible in
Great Brittain. Now the British people are not
fool to do that before an ordinairy cup of tea.
We are speaking here about one of the
“Highlights”of the British summerseason: the
Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
This Garden party is an long tradition in Great
Brittain, and the lawns from the Royal Palace
are free for the guests. This is a way for the
Royal family to come in contact with the
people of the nation. Ofcourse you cannot buy
a ticket for this Garden Party. People will be
well informed by letter, written throuht the
Lord Chamberlain, the head of the court, that
her majesty had pleased to drink a cup of tea
with some happiness people of the nation. The
selection is a way of a very big care. People
can be proposed by gouvernement, the army or
charity organisations. Throuht this way all kinds
of people will be representented. Most of the
visitors had done something special like
working as an volunteer by the lifeboat guard
or something else. Everyone which was present
is very incredible proud and honoured to be
come on the tea. That don’t happened to you
every day. The Lord Chamberlain had also write
in his letter that there is an dresscode which is
very conservative like “Lady’s days” by the
Ascot horseriding races. For the ladies is an hat
an obligation and an daydress, trouser suit or
an national suit. The gentlemen had to be
come in jacquet, suit,militairy outfit or
national suit.

o’clock the
militairy
band started
with playing
“God save
the
Queen”,after
which the
Queen and prince came to their guests. More
than one hour the Queen was talking with her
guests. After that there was for the 27.000
guests in a cup of tea presentated with some
special english sweets like
chocolatcakes,dundeecakes and sandwiches.
If this teabag also will be used on those Royal
Garden Parties, I
don’t know. That is
not telling the story,
but maybe are those
teabags used in the
hotels for the guest
of the Royal Garden
