Saad Al Shahrani, the director of Construction and Drilling Training Center in Dammam Can you tell us about your career and academic life? I joined the training program in Aramco in March 1974, and I finished all company training and educational courses by 1980 and during my studies I worked in the Gas department in Abqaiq as an operator assistant and later as an operator. In 1980, I was sent to study chemical engineering and I graduated in 1986. I came back home to work in engineering department in Abqaiq labs, where I shifted between oil, gas and other facilities. After that I worked in administrative positions from operation supervisor to operation administration manager , and through all other positions. I retired from Saudi Aramco on March 2013. What sports do you prefer? Is football among these sports? I practice walking and I love watching European football matches. It is well known that Eng. Saad Al-Shahrani worked for Saudi Aramco for many years, can you describe your experience with Aramco and tell us what you gained? Just imagine a young man join Aramco with no certificates but sixth grade, and retired with Engineering Bachelor and being the director of important company facilities. Aramco has given me everything and I gave it very little. I have gained experience academically and administratively, rewards and friends. Aramco enabled me after God to support and accomplish my hopes and the hopes of my family. Eng. Saad is one of the prominent administrators of the SPSP, When have you started work at Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic and how was the beginning? It was a coincidence when I met the executive director Eng. Abdullah Al-Yami after my retirement and we discussed so many topics regarding retirement and work and I informed him that I have been requested to work with some companies and I have rejected all offers and he expressed his desire of me joining SPSP as a director of Drilling and Construction Training Center, when at that time, the center was under construction. I accepted the offer for my willingness to develop the youth and share my experience to develop the institute. And I had the honor to witness the opening of the Center in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Saud Bin Nayef, the prince of the Eastern Province after one year of my employment. How do you see the progression of Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic? The institute has made big steps in a very short period whether in the number of centers where we have four centers in remarkable period or in the number of students from 300 in 2008 to 2300 in 2015. What distinguishes Saudi Petroleum Services Polytechnic? And how did it make such reputation despite its short life? First distinction is education quality. Second is working with companies to make sure the students comply with the work requirements. Third distinction is the training ending with employment where students join one of the companies as a trainee at the beginning of his studies and there are other distinctions. What difficulties and challenges do you face in the construction and drilling center? And how do you overcome them? The difficulties are how to use the capabilities of the institute to train contractor’s employees, whereas we are still working with Aramco to complete the requirements to provide the necessary passes to the contractors. Eng. Saad, we have three centers in the Eastern Province, is the work cooperative or individual at each? They are three branches for one institute and work in them is cooperative with common objectives. Can we know your future plans for developing C&DTC? Our future plans are to expand in giving short courses in drilling, construction, heavy equipment, and safety. Starting where others stopped is a main factor of success. Is it always true? And how? That is what is we work for, to start from where others ended. We always look for what pushes us to the top and we work with the best international assessment organizations to guarantee distinction. To reach the top is easier than maintaining it? How is the institute able to maintain this position? That is done by periodical review and working with the best international assessment organizations, as I have previously mentioned, as well as the opinions of the beneficiaries and utilizing the best skillful training and administrative qualifications. Public Relations Department work hard to show the value and the position of the institute to the outside society. What is your future media plans? To develop institute electronic portal and convey the real image of the institute to the reader and be present in all global events related. What is the question you hoped we ask, but we didn’t? You have asked all questions. Last words We are very close to summer vacation, we hope all institute students and employees be safe and we ask all to follow the safe driving. Thank you. Article Administrative Positions’ Effect on the Organization Generally the organization aims at sustainability, development, horizontal and vertical growth, and in order to fulfill its objectives it sets clear plans and fixed objectives and provides all facilities that contribute to achiving its terminal objectives. One of the important factors that helps achieve objectives and develop work performance is the organization chart that determines duties and responsibilities for each employee. Administrative positions are considered the important positions that help organizations succeed through direction, leadership and connecting other production sections among each other and stating to them their roles, privileges and incentives and set general and special solutions for organization’s sections. Organization adminstartion provides for the remaining sections its requirements, these sections contain the brains planning for the organization and convey instructions and orders to the rest of the employees in all sections and branches outside the organization’s headquarter if any. The organization cannot perform its duties without specialized administrators in all administration areas such as planning, finance and human resources, all these departments with its employees and administrators work to make the suitable environment available to fulfill the organizations’ objectives and secure employees’ rights and work to expand the activity and provide all what helps to do so. Therefore, no organization can perform its duties except with proper staff and positions that suit the needs to manage the organization. It must be noted that administrators in any organization are less in numbers than the others, because the nature of their job at the office includes supervision and control, however, they are the more productive in the so called intangible or supportive production, as they interfere in all work details and play the bridging and leading role to reach the objectives of the organization. It is known that insulin makes you feel hungry and helps store fat in the body which makes you gain weight that could lead to obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis and heart and arteries diseases. On the other hand, sugar gained from beans, pasta and fruits, is absorbed slowly by the blood, keeping insulin levels constant. Professional Training and Development Employees in an establishment need continuous training and development by acquiring new skills and knowledge. By engaging employees in continuous training and development, superior performance is attained by these employees and that helps these Majhood Al-Saad* establishments achieve their strategic goals. In that context, training and development of employees is considered an investment in the human capital of the establishment. Effective training and development must cope up with current new technologies leading to a role of being an integral part of current international development of research and applying the results of such research. This can only be attained through continuous planned training and development by initiating an individual development plan for each employee in the establishment at all levels aiming at increasing the productivity of the establishment at the end. Training and development of employees has a positive effect on the negative behavior of employees leading to elimination of such behavior. It also helps organizations retain employees for long years of service and there by developing them to fill leading positions. For effective training and development, strategic plans of the organizations must be linked to the individual development plans. Key performance indicators must be incorporated in training and development for effective measurement of employees’ performance. Saudi Red Crescent Authority has been involved in the drill, and their fast response has represented the accuracy of their work and that they are keen on providing quick response to emergency situations at SPSP .
