Gators travel to Haughton
Captain Shreve will be on the road to Hal Harlan Stadium for a District 1-5A
meeting with Haughton. Shreve is coming off a 24-0 win over Southwood.
The Gators defense posted its first shutout since 2006 when they defeated
Haughton 28-0.
Haughton (5-2, 0-2) fell to district co-leader Airline (6-1, 2-0) at Airline Stadium 38-14 on Friday. The Bucs had a tough time slowing down Viking quarterback Hayden Hildebrand and the multi-dimensional Airline offense.
Hildebrand passed for 289 yards hitting on 18-of-22 passes and two scores.
The Vikings also rolled up 145 yards on the ground for a total of 434 yards.
Haughton was balanced in its attack with 144 yards rushing and 160 passing.
Quarterback James Almond was 21-of-29 passing for 160 yards. His favorite
target was Jerrod Craft with 6 catches for 41 yards. Twin brother Jarred Craft
led the rushing with 81 yards on just 12 carries. Airline took control of the
game with 3:32 left in the first half on a 61-yard scoring toss to Michael Nunnery out of the backfield for a 21-7 lead. Haughton hurt themselves with three
turnovers in the game, two lost fumbles and an interception.
Gators shutout Cowboys
Captain Shreve’s strongest and most consistent phase of its game all this
season — its defense — was at its best in a 24-0 defeat of Southwood at
Independence Stadium. The Gator defense kept the Cowboys pinned up on
their own end of the field the entire first half and gave the offense a short field
to work with. Shreve’s first points came on a Brandon Duncan 44-yard field
goal with just under 2 minutes left in the first quarter. Duncan’s kick came
after Shreve had driven down to the Cowboy’s five yard line, but on third-andgoal a bad snap resulted in a 22-yard loss forcing the Gators into a long field
goal. The Shreve defense then put the offense in great field position for the
three touchdowns the Gators would score in the second quarter and take a
24-0 halftime lead. Marvin Davis (1-yard), Da’wan Floyd (3 yards) and Brandon Smith (6 yards) all scored on the ground for the Gators on drives all
started inside the Southwood 30 yard line. The first score came after Southwood was forced to punt from its own 5 and after a 15-yard penalty on the
Cowboys, the Shreve offense took over at the 25. Rodney Bryant and Cole
Miller both intercepted Southwood passes on the next two Cowboy possessions. Bryant’s pick gave Shreve the ball at the Cowboy 26 while Miller’s 22yard return set up the offense at the Southwood 2. The Shreve defense
picked off four passes in the game with Bryant having two and Michael
Schimpf the other ending Southwood’s first possession of the game.
Shreve leads series 9-8

the win over Fair Park. He passed Bobby Ray McHalffey and Will
Marston, whom he succeeded.

 NOTES
Shreve leads series 9-8
At Lee Hedges: CS leads 5-4
At Haughton: Series even 4-4
Injury bug
 Injuries have become very prevalent of late with three starting players going down
in the Southwood game. RBs Quincy Perkins broke his ankle, Damian Johnson
suffered a knee injury and QB Raijon Linder twisted an ankle. Earlier in the week,
QB Eric Mosley broke his ankle in the JV game. DT Kyle Mack broke his tibia
earlier in the season against Woodlawn.
Duncan add another school record field goal
 Brandon Duncan’s 44-yard field goal against Southwood was his 9th of the season
which is a school record for a single season and gives him 13 in his career, one
short of the school mark of 14 held by John Michiels. Earlier in the year he kicked
a 47-yard field goal in the Gators loss to Ouachita which is the longest in the
school‘s history. Duncan has had at least one field goal in every game this season.
Second half rallies
 The last time a Shreve team trailed at halftime and still won the game was in 2009
when it trailed Southwood 22-21 at the break and won 40-30. They also defeated
Byrd that year after trailing 24-17 at half winning 31-27. Three of Shreve’s four
wins this season have come after the Gators trailed at the half.
Interception returns
 Santos Ramirez became the last Gator to intercept a pass and return it for a touchdown when he went 27 yards with a Ouachita pass. His was the second of the season. Corey Thomas went 89 yards with a Green Oaks pass in the first game of the
season. The last time a Gator had returned an interception for a score was in 2009
when Demario Thomas became the only Shreve player to do it twice in one game
against Natchitoches.
Doughty has career best
 Andrew Doughty set a career best for punt average in the game against Ouachita.
Doughty had six punts for an average of 45.2. Last season Doughty had nine punts
for a 43.9 average also against Ouachita.
Shutout: Its been awhile
 The shutout of Southwood was the first for the Shreve defense since 2006 when it
shutout Haughton 28-0. The Gators came one play short of shutting out Huntington
last season when the Raiders scored on the last play of the game.
