Kingborough Sports Centre Gymnastics Trampoline Team Update July Update Upcoming Events Upcoming events: AWE Camp & Senior World Championship Final Trial, 7-9 August, Adelaide Tasmanian State Level Championships, 29-30 August, Launceston International Tournament Ciudad de Valladolid & World Cup, 9-12 September, Valladolid, Spain State Squad Training, 13 September, Launceston World Age & Senior Double-Mini World Championship Final Trial, 25 September, Bendigo National Club Levels, 25-27 September, Bendigo Senior National Squad Camp, 28-30 September, Bendigo Team Future Camp, 28-30 September, Bendigo Tramp Champs Following the AWE camp, Elliott Stratton and Jack Petrie (WA) and Alex Cockayne (SA) stayed on for some more trampoline training with Kingborough’s Trampoline Team. Jack (former Tasmanian, now 17+ Men’s Trampoline National Champion) and Alex ( current 17+ Men’s National Champion on Double Mini) spent time training with Kingborough’s Accelerated and Senior International Teams, while Elliott spent time coaching with the Artistic Men’s and Women’s Teams as well as the Trampoline team and also trained with the Senior Internationals. Mainland trampoline gymnasts are continually drawn to Tasmania for the coaching expertise, friendly training atmosphere and the lasting friendships from the people within the sport. Development and Tumbling Teams During the July holidays assessments were held for our new competitive teams – Tramp Development and Tumble Team. The focus of the Tramp Development Team is to provide a competition pathway for 11-16 year old trampoline gymnasts with emerging talent who have formerly been part of the club badge program or former team members in past years. Tramp Development Team members will focus on developing routines and skills, including multiple saults and twists for the 2016 competition season. The Tumble Team is an extension program from the tumbling club badges focusing on the development of tumbling passes for future competitions. Both the Tramp Development Team and the Tumbling Team are being led by Advanced Silver coach and ranked 16th in the World for Double-Mini Tramp. Damien will be assisted by Team Coach, Alison Morgan for the Tramp Development Team and club badge leader for Tumbling, Ella Brothers in the Tumble Team program We wish both new teams and coaches the best of luck! Tramp Development Team: Ella Chung, Dylan Crack, Jack Dalco, Lochi Dalco, Sebastian Goss, Skye Kempnich, Alex Lewis, Asta Mitchelmore, Kara Neil-Shaw, Edward Shepherd. Tumble Team: Leah Carlyon, Tala Castro-Sherrin, Chloe Herbert, Maia Johnson, Corinne Knibbs, Louis Males, Kayla McFadyen, Lauren McFadyen, Olivia Snow AWE Camp Kingborough hosted the Australian National Trampoline Team this month for the Australian Winning Edge (AWE) Training Camp held from the 3-5 July. The AWE Camp was an important part of the National Trampoline Team's preparation for the 2015 World Championships which are being held in Denmark in November. There was a star-studded line up at the camp, including 2012 Olympian Blake Gaudry, as well as 2014 World Championship finalist, Shaun Swadling. Kingborough's very own, Jack Penny was also in attendance, as well as 2014 World Cup finalist, Ty Swadling. 2014 Youth Olympic finalist, Abbie Watts lead the women’s team accompanied by 2011 Under 19 World Champion, Eva Kierath and 2015 Australian National Champion, Claire Arthur. The training camp was led by Australian National Coach, Brett Austine with Commonwealth MAG Gold Medallist, Sam Offord attending as Trampoline Team physiotherapist. The Kingborough Trampoline Team would like to wish Jack and the entire Trampoline National Team all the best in their final trial being held in Adelaide next month. Trampoline Gymnast of the Month June’s trampoline gymnast of the month award went to Patrick Schluter! Patty is a member of the Accelerated Team who has attained gymnast of the month by making progress with his goals, keeping focused and working hard during his training sessions. Patrick trains 4 times a week, competed at Nationals and has attended the last Team Future Camp at the AIS in Canberra! Well done Patrick! Meeting Matthew Mitcham This month, the Senior Trampoline Team had the pleasure of listening to Olympic Diving Gold Medalist and former Australian trampoline representative, Matthew Mitcham speak about his sporting experiences, his rise to fame, mental illness, drug addiction, depression, anxiety, sexuality, and his overall experience as a current high performance athlete. At the end of presentation Matthew took time out to meet the trampoline team and speak personally with them regarding some of these issues. National Double Mini Camp Kingborough Senior Gymnast, Damien Axelsen travelled to Sydney this month to take part in the Australian National Double-Mini Team Camp that was held at Castle Hill RSL Gymnastics. The camp was being led by Australian DMT Coach, Belinda Cox and was an important part of Damien's preparation for the International Tournament Ciudad de Valladolid in Spain and the World Championships being held in November in Denmark. Kingborough would like to wish Damien the best of luck in Spain and his final trial being held in Bendigo in September.
