Nurses should be aware that there is a penalty for taking a new position. According to HR Policy 602, (5) the employee’s anniversary/performance appraisal date will change when he or she changes positions within Providence to match the date of the transfer or promotion. How does this affect you? If your current anniversary is February 1 and you take a new position on January 15, according to the policy as is currently interpreted by the PMMC administration, your anniversary date would change to January 15 of the following year. So on February 1 if you were to move up on the step scale, that movement would not take effect until January 15 of the following year. This process does not encourage growth of our staff or movement toward a healthy work environment. We have filed a grievance on this issue as it has not been followed uniformly at PMMC or any other Providence facility. Watch for future updates. Article 6 Nursing Practice 6.2 Reporting of Concerns. Nurses are encouraged to raise any staffing concerns, without fear of retaliation. For specific staffing concerns, the Medical Center will make available a form that is mutually agreeable to the Medical Center and the Association. Until a mutually-agreeable form is developed, a nurse may use the Staffing Request and Documentation Form (SRDF), for a maximum of nine months following ratification of this Agreement. Nurses will leave completed forms in a designated place, and the Medical Center will not discourage the reporting, documentation and submission of such forms. A copy of such reports received by the Medical Center will be provided to a member of the PNCC designated by Association, and the appropriate unit manager. Sad Goodbye It is with great sadness, especially at this time of year, we say goodbye to two longstanding and outstanding PMMC employees. Carl Manalo CNA here for 21 years was dismissed in October and Therese Wavrin, Pharmacist, was dismissed in November after 23 years of dedicated PMMC service. Both of these employees contributed greatly to our reputation in the community by providing high quality and compassionate care to our patients. Both will be greatly missed by patients and staff alike. Our heartfelt prayers, wishes and support go to both families for future success and peace at this difficult time. Articles 7.4 and 23 of our contract offer nurses additional considerations should these actions occur. Are you interested in being more involved with making changes that impact nurses and patient care at the state and national level? Here is your opportunity to join in the advancement of nursing regionally and nationally. or submit an online form.
