Membership Report
Condolences
By Robert Foster
Greetings Members and Guests: It’s hard to believe summer is
coming to a close, and it is time to start thinking about which
ski trips to take this season.
As your Membership Chair, I would like to remind everyone to
send in your renewal membership notice early so that you will
be mentioned in the upcoming Skimeister. For many new
members who have recently joined the Tulsa Ski Club, this
would be a great time to come out, join in the fun, and make
new friends; you will realize what a bargain a Tulsa Ski Club
membership is. Please promptly return your renewal notices.
Do not forget the importance of an accurate email address or
any other changes on your renewal.
Our sympathies to Cindy Gildersleeve, whose husband,
Dean, passed away July 28 in a boating accident on Skiatook
Lake. Dean had many, many friends in Tulsa Ski Club. Both
Dean and Cindy were very active in ski club activities over
past years.
Also Thom Clayton lost his leg in the same accident. Thom
and Debe Clayton are past members and close friends of
Gildersleeve’s.
Former member, Pat Baker has died of cancer. Pat has been
away from Tulsa 10 years. He was a trip captain and Race
chairman two years, 1997 and in 1998.
Let us now welcome the following new members to the Tulsa
Ski Club:
David Warne
Virginia Newby
Brenda Tabbytite
Jane Meyer
Kathleen Sisler
Joe & Amy Alcott Family

2007-2008 Ski Season
By Bruce Dawson, Winter Trips Chairman
This year’s ski season is
filled
with
nine
opportunities for skiing,
boarding, and enjoying the
snow-filled mountains of
Utah, Colorado, and
Canada. We start off the
season with a fly-up trip to
PARK CITY, Utah, where
we will ski Park City, Deer
Valley and the Canyons,
while staying at the base
of Park City’s main street,
site of the 2002 Winter
Olympics. Be sure to
sign-up early for this trip!
The next three ski trips are
to ski resorts operated by
Vail Resorts. Starting with
a holiday trip between
Christmas and New
Year’s, KEYSTONE / ABASIN will provide tons of
fun for skiers of all abilities.
Both Keystone and ABasin offer a wide variety
of terrain from gentle
cruiser runs to steeps and
deeps … great fun for the
whole family.
BRECKENRIDGE,
Colorado, will offer our
club
members
a
wonderful, long weekend
with three ski days. This
charming, western ski
town is a Tulsa Ski Club
favorite. This year’s
lodging at Pine Ridge
Condos will offer ski-in and
ski-out capability at the
base of Four O’clock Run.
A great value!
The resort areas of VAIL,
BEAVER CREEK, AND
A R R O W H E A D
consistently rank #1 in
America. The Vail Valley
offers over 5200 acres of
varied ski terrain, a true
international flair and a
wide selection of dining
and shopping opportunities. Vail Racquet Club
features large, comfortable condominiums and
an
on-site
Italian
restaurant called Big Horn
Bistro. This trip offers
some of the best skiing
anywhere.
We round out January with
the FLATLANDS Ski
Association trip to
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS,
Colorado. This annual
event offers five full ski
days of champagne
powder in one of
Colorado’s
most
renowned western ski
towns. The annual interclub competition features
NASTAR, cross country,
and snowboard events for
skiers of all ages and
abilities. The Tulsa Ski
Club will be defending their
first place ranking at this
year’s event. Racing is
only part of this trip. This
trip offers upscale lodging
at the Phoenix Condos,
parties, an awards
banquet and plenty of
social activities throughout
the week.
nights lodging at the High
Country Inn located in
downtown Banff. World
class downhill skiing and
your choice of many other
activities will fill your days.
Easy access to shopping
and international cuisine
will provide fun-filled
evenings and create
memories that will last a
lifetime.
Start with a beautiful
glade-covered mountain;
add powder light snow,
friendly people, three
diverse cultures, and a
town known the world over
for art and history, and you
have a haven for true
skiers called TAOS. A
traditional Tulsa Ski Club
favorite, Taos, New
Mexico, offers a wide
variety of ski terrain.
Beginner to expert, this late
February ski trip is value
priced to give three ski
days of fun for everyone.
Mid-February finds us
celebrating President’s
Day Week at CRESTED
BUTTE, Colorado. This
holiday weekend will
provide four ski days in
Southwestern Colorado.
Large enough to offer
sixteen lifts open to 1200
acres, Crested Butte will
allow you to join your
friends on the mountain for
a great day of powder. The
Chateau condos offer
quality lodging at an
affordable price.
In the heart of the
Canadian
Rockies,
BANFF/LAKE LOUISE,
Alberta, Canada features
some of the most beautiful
alpine scenery anywhere
in the world. Our second
fly-up trip will give skiers
four ski days and five

This year’s Spring Break
trip to WOLF CREEK,
Colorado, offers skiing for
all levels including tree
skiing, back country,
snowboarding and cross
country. Traditionally
receiving Colorado’s
highest snowfall, Wolf
Creek is sure to provide
four days of fun. Walk to
Pagosa’s Hot Mineral
Springs next door to the
Oak Ridge Lodge and take
advantage of nearby
shopping and dining
opportunities in town.
This season’s winter trips
have been planned to offer
top ski destinations and
quality
lodging
at
affordable prices. Our trips
offer great value for skiers
of all ages and abilities,
giving
skiers
the
opportunity to enjoy the
experience of skiing with
others while making new
friends. Be sure to sign up

Back by popular demand and just across the street from
the lifts and the heart of the base area. Breckenridge is an
authentic 136 year old mining town. Its four peaks are flat
on the fronts and steep on the sides. The runs spread
down to the broad face of 10 Mile Range with miles of
green circle comfort skiing below and over 700 acres of
open bowls and steeps above the timberline. The broad
tree lined runs are great for beginners as well as all level
of skiers. In town, there are boardwalks, brightly painted
Victorian homes, boutiques, restaurants, galleries and
nightspots by the hundreds. Our two bedroom, two bath
condos give ski-in, ski-out convenience on the Four O’clock
ski run.
Free Night Skiing – are you kidding me? No I’m not. Load
up the kids and enjoy four days of skiing fun. Keystone
resort is known for its world class skiing; a diversity of
three mountains back to back to back and a bonus of night
skiing provide a tremendous variety that appeals to skiers
and boarders of all abilities. The abundance of natural
snowfall, top rated snowmaking and grooming assure you
a memorable skiing experience.

4 days of skiing at Crested Butte. It’s a great mountain
with a variety of terrain. The green slopes are fun, and the
left side of the mountain features some very challenging
double-diamond terrain. Lots of great restaurants and
entertainment, both at the mountain base and in town.
Pyramid shaped Mt. Crested Butte looms over Crested Butte,
the last of the Colorado hippie ski towns. The lower front
of the mountain is mostly beginning and intermediate
terrain, while the cliff riddles bowls and faces on the back
side, known as the North Face, test even the most talented
skiers. The pretty Victorian mining town has excellent
shopping and dining.

3 ski days at a great mountain. No snowboarding, just
classic alpine skiing in stunning Taos Ski Valley. Enjoy Taos’
Southwestern hospitality and the great ski area. The
altitude, steepness and northern exposure combine to rival
A-Basin, Snowbird and Mammoth. But don’t be intimidated;
beginners and intermediates do just fine because Taos
also offers groomed cruisers and dry powder. The ski area
has wide trails and sheer valleys facing every compass
position. The Taos Ski School is often rated the best in the
county where lessons are fun as well as instructive.
