Presents
The ASAA 1A BOYS
Provincial Basketball Championship
March 17 – 19, 2016
Good luck to all the teams!
Talent wins games, but teamwork
and intelligence wins championships.
~ Michael Jordan
Competing at an Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association high school
provincial championship is the culmination of years of practice,
commitment and dedication on the part of student athletes and
coaches. It is in recognition of these outstanding efforts that I welcome
you to the 2015/2016 ASAA 1A Boys Basketball Provincial
Championship, hosted by Livingstone High School.
The significant volunteer time committed to this event by members of the local
championship organizing committee will ensure that you are treated especially well
this weekend. I wish to thank event chairs Duane DeCock and Paul Erickson for
taking on the mammoth task of hosting. The efforts of Duane, Paul, the staff,
students, parents and friends from the Lundbreck community should be recognized
and I encourage athletes and coaches to take a few moments during the tournament
to say thank you to your hosts.
The ASAA is proud to be associated with student athletes and coaches, and we know
that many of these individuals either are, or will be leaders in their schools and
community. I challenge all athletes, coaches and spectators to promote the highest
levels of ethics, integrity, sportsmanship and respect for others throughout this
championship – both during competition and outside of the competitive arena. You
are role models who we trust will celebrate your success with humility and defeat
with grace. What a great opportunity you have to show everyone the positive
correlation between school athletics and positive character development.
I want to acknowledge and thank the ASAA’s Senior Partners: Alberta Milk and
SUBWAY®, Major Partners: Morgex insurance and Coast Hotels & Resorts and our
Suppliers, which are listed throughout this championship program, for their ongoing
support of the ASAA and student athletes across the province. Their support of the
ASAA enhances the provincial championship experience.
Have a fantastic time at this championship; I trust you will take home memories that
will last throughout your lifetime.

Livingstone School, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome all of you to the 2016 ASAA 1A Boys

We are honored to be hosting this prestigious event and everyone is extremely excited for the

may all the experiences and new friendships this week be memorable and long-lasting.
What an accomplishment for all of the athletes and coaches to reach this level and have the
opportunity to compete for a Provincial Championship! I commend your dedication and
commitment to the sport of Basketball. Be proud of your efforts for having the opportunity to
compete at this event. The hard work that goes into a successful season should not be understated
and I wish all of you the best of luck this week.
To host such a competition requires an incredible amount of volunteer work. I would like to thank
our dedicated Provincials Committee who has worked together to make this week possible, along
with all of the volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to provide all of the student athletes
with a memorable experience. A special thank you also goes to the staff and students of Matthew

supported with the planning and running of this event.
Welcome to Pincher Creek and enjoy all of the wonderful sights and activities the area has to offer.

Sincerely,
Mr. Chad Jensen

Sportsmanship
The ASAA prides itself on promoting good sportsmanship, integrity, and
good will within and between high schools participating in interschool
athletics.
The ASAA, along with Livingstone School, also believes that all Coaches,
Players and Spectators need to conduct themselves with class and promote
positive sportsmanship.
As per the Code of Ethics in the ASAA Handbook:
D. Spectators:
Spectators, both student and adult, must demonstrate courtesy and
good sportsmanship by positive cheers of encouragement for their
team, not against the opposing team. This is evidenced by the
absence of booing and vulgarities. Spectators must also show proper
acceptance of officials’ judgment. Artificial noisemakers are not
permitted during provincial championship tournaments/events. These
noisemakers may include but are not limited to: air horns, cow bells,
plastic tube horns, garbage can lids, etc. The provincial championship
host shall have the authority to eject from the competition facility
individuals who, following a warning, refuse to comply with this
requirement.
Each player and team has worked extremely hard to get to this point in the
season. Participating in a Provincial Tournament will be a highlight for all
players and teams involved.
Livingstone School asks that you remember that your admission to this event
entitles you to enjoy an exhibition of skills, developed by student athletes in
an educational setting. Please be respectful and encouraging in the following
ways
 Cheer for your team, not against your opponent.
 Respect the decisions of officials and coaches.
Be a fan, not a fanatic

publicity, but everyone can say he’s a champion.

Team History:
The Livingstone Sabres have had a good 2015-2016 season. Our record is 30-4 going
into zones. We have had tournament wins at Kate Andrews, Willow Creek, and
Matthew Halton. One of our biggest highlights this year was the win at Three Hills at
the renowned Superman Tournament. We also were 9-0 at league play and won the
Chinook League Post Season Tournament. Both Paul and I would like to welcome all
provincial teams for making it through playoffs to get here. We would like to thank all
volunteers for their efforts. Good luck to everyone at Provincials!

Team History:
The Titans have had an interesting season. We started the year with only 7 players and
had some strong showings early. With only 7 players, we knew we could run into
trouble with injuries, and in early February we lost 2 players from our roster. One
returned for the Zone weekend, and after pulling up another grade 9 player we were
once again up to a “full” roster of 7. We are very excited to represent the South Zone at
this year’s 1A Provincials, and are looking forward to a great weekend!

consists of twelve young men that are an absolute pleasure to coach. They are all
passionate about the game, and they love to compete. As a team, we eagerly look
forward to pitting ourselves against the provinces’ best 1A teams this week. Thank you
very much, Livingstone School staff and students, for all of the hard work you have put

The Rosemary Rockets have had a season of growth. We started off the season a little
slow, finishing third in Bassano and then winning consolation in Foremost. We then won
the Rosemary Invitational tournament and then we were finalists at the St. Joseph’s

large schools. The Rosemary Rockets would like to thank their parents for all of their

The PICS boys have enjoyed a good year with lots of growth. Being a very young team
has brought us many challenges, but this group of guys has kept and incredible attitude
throughout the year. We went through season play with a 4-4 record in Edmonton
Metro Division 3. A highlight for our boys would be getting the opportunity to play
Eastglen who was ranked 3rd in 3A boys at the time. Teaching the 3rd place game at the
Eastglen tournament was a good experience for us which taught us a lot. The boys are
very excited to be participating in provincials this year as they grow in character, but also
as basketball players.

Without the support of my wife I would not be here (Thanks hunny). Last season was
supposed to be just that, my last. However, my returning players put a stop to that.
Their dedication, passion, and love of the game proved to be common ground that was
too much to walk away from. I want to thank this team for an unforgettable final ride.
“Your team plays the right way” is the biggest compliment I have received as a coach,
and the perfect words to describe this group. The guys have bought in and are playing
their best basketball to date. The Grizz finished with a 19-5 record, winning 5
tournaments. They are an exciting team to watch led by our 6 returning players, all of
whom provide very different and key aspects to our game. Rounding out the team are
our 3 rookies that share our bond. Simply, ball is life. We are proud to reporesent the
North Central Zone, and would like to that Livingstone for hosting provincials this year.
Good luck and good sportsmanship to all teams.

Team History:
This year has been very eventful. We have medaled in almost all our tournaments.
Recently we have faced some adversity with two players going down to injury. As is our
nature, we came together as a team and worked hard to win our zone down two
integral parts to our team. We have played in some very close, hard-fought games
against Le Crete and a 4A school in NPSS. We look forward to seeing everyone from last
year, and hopefully meeting some new teams.

Our 2015/2016 season has landed us exactly where we expected to be this year after
falling short in last year’s NE Zone final. This team has experienced many firsts this
season, including having the privilege of raising their school’s very first 1A Zone
championship banner. Although we lost two veteran players this year, we look to
steadily improve on this experience with further hard work and determination.
