PROJECT: Identity
DSS is a new company started by an existing client. After discussing the logo for the
new company, there were a lot of creative directions that were explored. With a very
literal name and many figurative design options, we chose to pursue the mark that best
represented a dynamic, modern look that emulates the high quality of safe, reliable
service and up-to-date-technology (and basically he really liked this logo). I was very
happy to present many variations of the logo, here are a sampling of the versions that
did not make the cut, but have a place in my heart.

ASU for Arizona and Native American Design Students of Arizona State University

The Green Team’s design proposes to place education
in the forefront of importance in a plan that seeks to
foster an increased sense of public participation in
process. Retail is located in the east section of the Capitol Center in
the old fire station, and includes a market for local artisans, a café,
and restaurant. An amphitheater is located adjacent to the veteran’s
the political process. In this design, administration
is moved out of the Capitol Center and relocated
to the south along an entirely new corridor created
to the north of the current Capitol Corridor, BIA 100
memorial and serves as a place to hold traditional song and dance.
Horse stables are located just to the northeast of the retail area
behind a butte. An equestrian trail runs along the entire Capitol
District east to west. The cultural center is pedestrian friendly, with
(Window Rock Blvd.), and linked to BIA 12 alleviating
traffic congestion along BIA 100 (Window Rock Blvd.).
The entire administrative area occupies the land
bounded by the new gateway to the north, BIA 100
areas set aside for walkways, horseback riding, and picnics. Lastly,
the design includes a resort placed atop a butte in the southeast of
the Capitol District, providing guests with views of the entire area,
and in close proximity to shops and horseback riding. The resort
(Window Rock Blvd.), and BIA 12. To the south of BIA
100 (Window Rock Blvd.), space is allocated to the
judicial branch of government and housing. Space
for education is allocated to the northeast of the new
could serve as hotel accommodation for tourists, but is intended to
appeal to legislators for temporary housing.
A governing principal behind this Team’s view is a synergy between
the public and its representative government. Their design is guided
entrance along with additional housing.
by a set of Navajo concepts which are pictured in the ‘process’
sketches of this section.
As a large part of this team’s design intentions,
educational headquarters and housing are located
near the main governmental center. The theory behind
this placement is that education and a residential
community will help support and create a synergy
between education, the community at large, and
government. A plaza or commons area connects the
educational and governmental spaces and creates an
area for public demonstrations.
The design establishes a cultural center in the current
Capitol Center. Here the team places mixed retail with
offices, an amphitheater, a resort, new landscaping,
spaces for traditional ceremonies and equestrian
trails. An important feature of this design includes
spaces set aside for public viewing of the law making
