CEDAR & HEMLOCK BEVEL SIDING
Hood Distribution is providing a complete one-stop shopping SOLUTION for your bevel siding needs. The Bevel
Store is a new concept in the marketing of cedar and hemlock siding, offering you high quality products in the
quantities that allow for a profitable inventory. We achieve this by drawing from the consistent quality of historic
production methods, and viewing it from a current market perspective. Although we have not traditionally been
part of the bevel siding market, with the creation of The Bevel Store we are answering your needs in the wood
siding market.
Our Cedar comes from a mill that has been producing for the quality driven European specialty market. Due to
the demands of that market the mill has perfected the way they produce their products. The fiber is chosen for a
tighter and straighter grain. This allows the siding to be milled with a clean, smooth face and a clean, tight re-sawn
back. It also has a true 3/8” tapered end that eliminates splintering and feathering. The units are a smaller, rackfriendly pack size of 2500 ft surface measure, and tallied 6’ to 20’ random odd and even lengths. It is available in
Clear Vertical Grain Smooth and A Smooth in raw or primed, with1 coat of oil.
BEVEL SIDING
Since 1855, Hood Distribution, The
McQuesten Group has been known as
being a leading distributor of high
quality building materials.
The primed finger-joint beveled CVG and A Smooth come in 2500 ft units with all 16 ft lengths. There are no trim
backs in these units.
With the same care and attention given to the production of the Cedar bevel, a more economical Hemlock bevel
can also be offered. Produced to the same exacting tolerances as the cedar; the Hemlock is available only in raw
and primed random length CVG, which ensures the quality needed.

EASTERN WHITE PINE
Abundant throughout the northeast, Eastern White Pine was originally
used as masts for the King’s Royal Navy and in the homes of Colonists
even before the Revolutionary War.
Eastern White Pine is available in a wide range of grades, and is
appropriate for a variety of uses, and a favorite species for siding, paneling,
furniture, trim details, moldings, packaging, millwork and flooring. The
Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (NeLMA) is the grading
authority and rules writing agency for Eastern White Pine. The NeLMA
grade stamp has long been the trusted symbol of quality and excellence
since 1933.
As a renewable building material resource, Eastern White Pine is an
environmentally smart choice for designers and builders. When compared
to man-made building products, it is the obvious choice for performance
in “green-minded” construction. For more information: www.nelma.org
Durgin and Crowell Lumber Co., founded in 1976, has grown to become one of New
England’s largest manufacturers of kiln-dried Eastern White Pine lumber, annually
producing up to 30 million board feet. Durgin and Crowell prides itself not only on
the quality of its products, but also the quality of its people; from log purchasing, to
manufacturing, to sales. Their hard work and attention to detail help deliver products and service
that keep customers and end-users coming back.
Their modern sawmill facility is designed for maximum efficiency and output, but also allows
the flexibility to cater to the diverse demands of a quality conscious customer base. Durgin and
Crowell has a history of innovation, continually seeking new opportunities to grow and diversify
its business. Enhance pre-coated pine paneling is just one example by which they have sought
to add value to their pine lumber. Durgin and Crowell is a family business, and intends to remain
that way for the future generations. It recognizes the importance a sustainable, long-term log
supply. Therefore, Durgin and Crowell is a proud participant in the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®
(SFI®) sourcing program, seeking to promote and educate landowners and loggers about the
benefits of sustainable forestry. For more information: www.durginandcrowell.com

GLULAM (GLUED LAMINATED STRUCTURAL TIMBERS)
LAMINATED VENEER LUMBER (LVL)
Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) are structural members produced by laminating wood
veneers of approx 1/10" thickness together with exterior adhesive. All veneers are
orientated with grain parallel to long dimension of the member. LVL is commonly produced in 1 3/4" thickness which are
doubled or tripled using mechanical fasteners to create structural beams and headers.
We stock Masterplank 2.0E LVL from MetsaWood (www.metsawood.us) in a 1 3/4” width x 5 1/2”, 7 1/4”, 9 1/4”, 9 1/2”, 11

HANGERS
We have an extensive line of steel hangers from Simpson Strong-Tie Co. (www.strongtie.com) for
connecting LVL's and I-Joists to each other or to other supports.
Glulam is made from horizontally laminating nominal 2" lumber with a waterproof adhesive. Highest grades of lumber are
put into the upper and lower laminations where tension and compression requirements are the greatest and lower grade
material is used in the middle of the beam where stress requirements are less.
We stock an Architectural Appearance Grade Southern Pine glulam from Anthony Forest Products (www.anthonyforest.com).
The Architectural grade is the most commonly used grade for exposed beam applications and each beam is individually
wrapped.
Our inventory consists of:

DOUGLAS FIR
Douglas Fir is North America’s most plentiful softwood species. It is among the strongest and hardest softwood species
and possesses a light rosy color that is set off by its handsome grain pattern. Fir is unique among all softwood species
in that it is naturally dimensionally stable, having the ability to season well in position. The tough fiber makes it difficult
to work with hand tools. However, it responds very well to sharp power tools and machines to an exceptionally smooth,
glossy surface. Douglas Fir is a top choice for structural and decorative beams. Hood Distribution – The McQuesten
Group offers green and kiln dried S4S stock as well as green full rough timbers.
Architects and designers have long appreciated the rich visual quality of Douglas Fir and woodworkers have long
appreciated its excellent response to fine craftsmanship and finishing. Douglas Fir is often sawn to expose its vertical
grain. This is a technique of positioning the log to a certain degree off perpendicular to the saw. This method produces
a cut that reveals a uniform straight grain running the length of the board. The light rosy color of Douglas Fir, which
darkens over time when exposed to UV rays, is highlighted when vertical grain cuts are utilized.
Premium Exposed® products are graded on an in-house grade rule which exceeds WWPA’s standards for pitch, shake and
wane. Our material meets or exceeds the rigorous regulations set forth by the Oregon Forest Practices Act. Each piece
is end tagged “Premium Exposed®. Timbers are grade stamped on end to ensure clean face. Anti-stain and anti-mold
treated after being debarked and again when cut to size.

WESTERN RED CEDAR
Western Red Cedar offers the advantages of natural beauty, design flexibility, exceptional dimensional stability and long
term durability. Cedar has a long history of withstanding the rigors of time and weather. It is also a recognized structural
material with known mechanical and physical properties.
Grades of Western Red Cedar:
Clear Grades: Clear cedar has a limited number of natural characteristics and is specified when appearance of the highest
quality is desired. Clear grades of timbers are normally supplied green (unseasoned). When required, seasoning is achieved
by air-drying.
Knotty Grades: Knotty cedar presents a more rustic appearance and is typically supplied green (unseasoned) in the
appearance and structural grades. When required, seasoning is achieved by air-drying except for grades of Light Framing
and Structural Joists and Planks which are available kiln-dried.
Surface Textures:
Saw Textured: The saw textured surface, obtained during the milling process which uses either circular or band saws, is
present on all four sides.
Rougher Headed: The lumber receives its texture from a milling process which uses roughened planer knives. The rough
texture is clearly visible on all four sides.
Surfaced Four Sides (S4S): The smooth surface on all four sides presents a uniformly sized product with a high quality
appearance. Sizes from 2x4 up to 6x6 are generally available. Larger sizes are produced on special orders.

Our timbers come from Vancouver Island and are a blend of old growth
and 2nd growth cedar. A dark, rich red color, they offer beauty and
strength and can be used in many different ways. We see many of
them going into the outdoor patio application to offer partial shading
pergolas.
We have milling capabilities to dress the product and resize the timber.

CUSTOM MILLING
We maintain a significant stock of Douglas Fir and Cedar timbers to fill our customers’ needs. Our unique ability to
custom mill either our own inventory, or timbers provided to us to fit a customer’s specific needs, enables us to provide
quick turnaround for most milling needs. Once the material has been remanufactured, there is no guarantee of
grade, appearance or structural value.
Below are descriptions of the milling options we offer. We also offer custom milling services for your material with the
exception of reclaimed and/or previously installed timbers and pressure treated lumber.
ROUGH TIMBERS TO S4S:
The larger rough timbers can be milled to the standard
1/2” size measurement which produces a square edge,
uniform smooth surface while maintaining its grade. Due
to variation in the timber size you may encounter skip
dressing. Skip dressing is places on the timber where the
knives do not make the wood smooth.
PACKAGING:
Each order is carefully packaged with corners and protected
with shrink wrap when possible. The orders are also labeled
with the customer’s name to ensure proper shipment.
Baker “D” model resaw with 16” × 16” capacity:
Stetson-Ross Timber Sizer with 16” × 24” capacity:
Allows for larger capacity using 11/4” or 1½” blades with heads
on both of the conveyors so boards are cut on each pass,
minimizing down time and the time needed to return uncut
material.
Accurately sizes finished timbers to within 1/16 of an inch by
planing all four sides of a timber up to 16” x 24” x any length in
a single pass.
CUSTOM MILLING PHOTO GALLERY
HOOD MILLING EQUIPMENT
HOOD MILLING OPTIONS
ROUGH CLEAN FACES:
Typically the full rough timbers do not have a clean
consistent face so we will resaw up to four sides cutting
a slab off each side to expose the clean rough faces. For
a less costly option where rough sawn is required we can
resaw timbers which will produce 1 to 4 clean faces with the
remainder being natural rough faces which may be darker
in color.
CLEAN AND BRIGHT:
In this process we start with an S4S product which
measures to the 1/2”. We dress the timber down to the 1/4”
to eliminate any skip dressing and rough variations. This
produces a square edge with a uniform smooth surface.
12
SINGLE & DOUBLE TONGUE AND GROOVE:
We also have the ability to run material to a standard single
and double tongue and groove pattern. This is offered with
and without a V-Groove.
CUSTOM ROUGH AND S4S: With our stock timber
sizes we have the milling ability to resaw and surface from
the standard sizes into various special size requirements.

DECKING
This extraordinary decking is manufactured using SUNSHIELD, a technology developed 30 years ago for
the vinyl window industry. The result is a PVC cap stock decking that has a greater resistance to UV face,
surface degradation, stains, mold and mildew. At the core of this product is KORELITE, a 100% PVC which
makes CLUBHOUSE DECKING up to 25% lighter than most wood composites and adds superior strength.
CLUBHOUSE DECKING uses a dual color embossing process which produces a deck board with two colors,
one face, one edge presenting mulitple design options. The product has a random embossed pattern
with knot swirl definitions vastly different from the typical repeat patterns. A low gloss, matted surface
provides the appearance of authentic wood with cool pigment
technology to help reduce heat buildup. Choose from Earthtone or
Hardwood Collections for the look and color you want.

Dark Red Meranti is prized by European architects for high-class joinery applications. These species provide the ultimate
combination of beauty, versatility, performance and economy for decking and related products. They mill to a superior
surface, work easily, absorb and hold finish deeply and evenly. The timber ages to a smooth surface, with less checking
(cracking) than other harder, heavier, and more expensive species.
All Blue Star Decking Products are shipped kiln dried, manufactured on high-speed equipment to a moulding quality finish,
packaged in protective crating and graded to specifications, per the Malaysian Grade Rules for hardwood lumber (clear 1
face and better). Blue Star is the only full-line producer of hardwood decking and related products that is fully certified by an
internationally recognized, continuously monitored program that is audited by an independent third party. All timber used
to manufacture Blue Star Products, and all our facilities are 100% certified by the Malaysian Timber Certification Council.
Blue Star products have been the #1 choice in hardwood decking by East Coast builders for more than 20 years. Now, you
can buy this same product with a factory coating of Sikkens Cetol SRD, a premium penetrating oil finish manufactured by
the world’s #1 producer of wood finishes. Each piece of Blue Star Plus has been uniformly coated, pressed, brushed and
buffed on our custom designed pre-finish line. Every piece is hand wiped and inspected, then carefully dried in a dust-free
environment.

Incense Cedar has a wide range of qualities and uses and is highly rated in a majority of physical properties used to
classify wood. These include natural durability, stability, shrinkage, checking, weathering, warping, insulation value
and workability. Not to mention that its warmth, its natural beauty and even its aroma can turn a room into a haven of
comfort and security. These are attributes recognized by Native Americans and the early settlers of the Northwest. In
recent years, Incense Cedar has been marketed as Western Cedar. This caused many people to believe that Incense Cedar
was no longer available. Now it is being produced and marketed as actual Incense Cedar and has the availability and
ability to meet the demand that is sure to grow.

It’s ironic, to say the least, to head for the outdoors and then spend it on a plastic deck. Especially when there’s Incense
Cedar Decking. Smooth on the most tender toes, it’s as sweet and natural as the outdoors itself. And there’s no need for
stains or harsh cleaners – it naturally resists decay. So get real. Choose Incense Cedar, and breathe deep.

manufactured by Inter-State Hardwoods. Located in one of the most vast, natural
environments for fine quality hardwoods – Northern Appalachia – Inter-State Hardwoods has
seen decades of experience and expertise in crafting hardwood lumber used by some of the
finest wood craftsmen in the world.
Consistency is one of the most important factors that determines quality. This consistency
starts with the fact that much of the timber land is owned and other land with timber rights
are centrally located within a 100 mile radius of the sawmill. This means lumber today and
then again a year from now will be lumber from the same region, dried using the same
process and processed on the same equipment. This provides a consistent product with a
clear face that if offered in random even lengths.
Color is another major contributing factor relating to the quality of these boards. Due to
the region the lumber is harvested from, the growing season is short in comparison to the
Southern and Mid-Atlantic States. The short growing season does not allow for the timber
from this region to absorb as much of the earth’s minerals; therefore, preserving more of the
natural colors of the wood specie.
Demand the Appalachian Standard:
The Appalachian Standard identifies the four key aspects of Appalachian Hardwood species
and what these attributes mean to wood manufacturers. These are: Sustainability, Consistent
quality, Greater yield, Made in the United States of America. On their own, each of these
standards are important. The combination of these four make Appalachian the point of
comparison for all hardwood lumber needs.

GREENGUARD RAINDROP 3D HOUSEWRAP
• With the emphasis on moisture managed wall systems, the first cross woven housewrap branded as
Raindrop was developed.
• GreenGuard® RainDrop™ is the first ever housewrap with drainage channels that actually move water
away from the wall allowing potentially harmful moisture to exit the wall. It is good for all types of
siding including brick and stucco.
• In addition to providing superior drainage, RainDrop is an air and moisture infiltration barrier.
By preventing air and moisture from penetrating the wall cavity, RainDrop preserves the energy
efficiency of your home.
• RainDrop’s unique construction allows the product to “breathe” so that potentially harmful moisture
vapor can escape the wall cavity.
• RainDrop is lightweight, so it is easy to handle; translucent, which makes it easy to locate studs, edges,
corners, and openings; can be nailed or stapled; and the green color reduces glare, making it easy to
work with on bright, sunny days.
• The last unique property is its cost, which does not differ greatly from that of traditional house wrap.
• Available in 9x125 rolls.

SHAKERTOWN
The Shakertown® Craftsman 1-Course Cedar Shingle Panel is the newest development from the company that brought you the original
cedar shingle panel. Manufactured using only the finest Western Red Cedar vertical-grain heartwood, the Shakertown Craftsman Panel
features a full plywood back, a thick 3/8" shingle butt and over-locking end-joints for a seamless appearance.
Shakertown Craftsman Panels go up 6 times faster than individual shingles and can be installed with a pneumatic nailer. The blind/
concealed nailing creates a true, traditional shingle appearance.
The panels are 8' long and available in an exposure size of 7" and 4-1/2". Shakertown Craftsman Panels are constructed with a classic
keyway joint or tight contemporary joint between shingles.
With the rising cost of the individual R&R’s, the gap per square on material cost has narrowed considerably and when you factor in
labor and waste, Shakertown Craftsman Panel is the real winner. The redesigned single course panel with the concealed nailing full
plywood back and shiplap over-locking end-joint has finally answered any of the field application concerns. Keep in mind the ability to
prestain, custom color or primer the 8' panels with no concerns of coverage and dripping that you had with the 2 or 3 course panels.

have to be painted and will never rot, crack or deteriorate even in high moisture applications. Through
a unique bonding process, the broadest and richest color palette ever developed for cellular PVC is
offered. Durability is achieved through a unique surface technology developed in conjunction with
Sherwin-Williams. The water-based, solar-reflective coating is extremely durable and will not peel, crack
or chip. This finish protects the PVC against UV exposure so that it never warps or twists in the sun. EXCel carries a 25 year warranty on both the material and the finish.

SPRUCE
With its numerous properties (e.g. decay resistance, high insulation, lightness, etc.) white cedar (thuya occidentalis) is the ideal
choice for roofing or exterior siding. Its natural oils protect against mold, moisture and insects, thereby ensuring a longer life.
Cedar shingles age beautifully, even when left untreated. They enhance the beauty of a home while blending perfectly with
other natural materials such as stone and brick.
Spruce lumber is relatively soft; however, the strength is especially good in comparison to the weight. The texture is very
uniform with light tan heartwood and off-white sapwood. White Spruce, Red Spruce, and Black Spruce can be found
all over the Northern United States, Canada, and Alaska. These three species are usually mixed together and traded as
Eastern Spruce. Spruce is primarily used in general carpentry and light construction applications.
SBCs High End Regular Eastern White Cedar Shingles features smoother Faces & Butts, wider shingles, 5" exposure, more
consistent thicknesses and a consistent mill source.
European Spruce is also available and has one of the highest stiffness-to-weight ratios of all the Spruces. This
characteristic promotes a high level of performance associated with this specie of wood. European Spruce is primarily
traded as mixture of Norway Spruce, White Spruce, and Scots Pine. Euro Spruce is marketed as possessing a pleasing
appearance, fine grain, smaller knot sizes, and less warp and twist in relation to other members of the Spruce family.
Eastern White Cedar Shingles are available in four grades, each having its own distinctive features and applications:
