an hour and a half. It doesn’t matter what speed you ride, just come out and join the camaraderie and fun. The pace is
determined by each individual. Everybody arrives back at the stating point at roughly the same time and coffee usually follows
at a nearby Tim Hortons or Second Cup. These rides take place on highways rather than on pathways or city streets.

Ukrainian Cultural Village

Description:
August 7 to August 8, 2010
Meeting time TBA
Meeting location TBA
$55.00 per person
50 km each way
Relatively easy ride, with the exception of carrying all your camping gear with you
Join us for an exciting weekend on EBTC’s only self support bike trip- all the way out to the Ukrainian Village about 50 Km
east of Edmonton. Join us for an exciting day of cultural festivities as the Village celebrates Ukrainian days on Sunday
August 8, 2010. There will be traditional dancing, singing, old time cooking, demos on operating the old farm machinery,
and a chance to participate in the role playing of the local inhabitants of the 1920’s (If you can find any Ukrainian /
Romanian clothing to wear please bring them along to help get into the sprit). We may look a bit strange wearing a period
shirt with cycling shorts, but hey, it’s the spirit that counts). There will also probably be opportunities to buy some local,
organic produce and stuff from merchants that they will have on display.
Come prepared to get there under your own steam as we will be carrying everything that we will need with us, on our bikes. This is a
self support trip which means that there will NOT be any support vehicles to carry your camping equipment, to bring you water or
Gatorade, or to help you if you break down (other than the members of the group). In addition, we will be camping in little bitty tents that
we will bring with us on our bikes and where there will NOT be any showers. None of that sissy stuff and this trip will probably go rain or
shine so come prepared.
Saying that, this is not really a difficult trip especially if you pack light and this may be your opportunity to try self-support travel. If
you are planning a self-support trip of your own in the near future, this might be your chance to test out your skills and equipment on a short
weekend before you strike out on the open road. This is where you can decide if you really need all that stuff that your were planning to take
along and to see if it will do the job and hold up when you need it most and to make any changes and repairs before heading out.
On Saturday, we will take our time getting out there with plenty of stops and perhaps some side trips along the way. We will stop for
lunch at the Blackfoot Grazing Reserve and continue on to our campsite where we will have some time for games, socializing, and stargazing.
Later that evening, we will have a delicious, catered Ukrainian meal of Perogys, cabbage rolls, and Kolbassa
Your $55.00 will include a delicious Ukrainian supper, lunch, snacks, and camping on Saturday, and entrance to the Village,
breakfast, lunch & snacks on Sunday.

Description: What can be more natural than combining geocaching with cycling? Geocaching is essentially a treasure hunt where a GPS

geocaching event is too far to walk, but impractical by car so cycling is the most logical and fun way to whisk you between
GPS points. This is a self-supported EBTC event where helmets and a mechanically sound bicycle are required. If you don't
have a GPS unit, no problem, you can still attend as geocachers will be formed into groups (the most fun way to geocache). If
you can bring a GPS unit that is awesome, the more the merrier, but make sure you can manually enter GPS points (lat/long
format in degrees and map datum WGS84). Some units do not allow manual entry of GPS points. Cell phones are very
welcome. A sense of humour is required!

Advanced beginner ride that will please even the most experienced cyclist amongst us
Description: This route is mainly flat, with a few minor dips along Hwy 19. It is a combination of fairly quiet ‘country’ roads and
moderately busy (at that time of day) highways (Hwy 19 and Hwy 60). We’ll experience the beauty of countryside and farms
(crops and livestock), fast disappearing from the Edmonton area.

Bridges of Sturgeon County

Distance:
Sunday July 11, 2010
Meet at 8:30 am for a 9:00 am start
Meet at Kingswood Park on Sir Winston Churchill Ave. (which becomes Sturgeon Road) immediately north of River Lot 56
and a bit west of the Sturgeon Valley Golf Course. To get there from St. Albert, travel east on Sir Winston Churchill Avenue
in St. Albert, to the junction of Kingswood Drive. The parking lot is on the left. If entering St. Albert from Edmonton on
Hwy 2 (St. Albert Trail) you should proceed north to Sturgeon Road, turning right (east) to the junction with Sir Winston
Churchill Ave., then turning left (east) to Kingswood Park.
Bring a lunch to eat at halfway point (Gibbons) or bring cash if you would like to purchase snacks
65 - 90 km
Rating:
Intermediate. This ride has been really prone to Mother Nature throwing giant curves at us, anything from really hot days to
very windy days to the torrential rain storm last year that turned the ride into a survival exercise. Come prepared for all
conditions.
Description: This is a loop ride of county roads north of Edmonton. Two options are available, beginning together, and ending at the
same parking lot in St. Albert. No formal lunch stop is planned. We'll stop at each of the two convenience stores along the
route so you can buy snacks as you go or bring a lunch or snacks to carry you through the distance. There will be no support
vehicle or sag wagon, so be sure to bring a spare tube and pump - along with the confidence to be self-sufficient. There are
two options, varying in distance. Both rides are intended for those seeking a bit of a challenge to their cycling. In both cases,
five bridges of the Sturgeon River will be crossed, a couple of them from each direction. Each crossing gives you the
opportunity to first plunge into the Sturgeon Valley, and then test yourself as you climb out of it. There are several rolling
hills on the longer distance.
Option One: This is a loop of intermediate distance and difficulty, having several moderate climbs over its length of approximately 65 km.
Option Two: This adds 25 km to the distance, making it a more challenging route for those desiring something a bit tougher. Those choosing
this option must be sure to fill both water bottles at the Bon Accord convenience store as there are no more water points until the finish.

Description:
Many cyclists have never ridden at night. They don't know what they are missing! We ride around with
flashing lights and bright reflectors in a long chain around the river valley. Too much fun to be described. This year
we start late enough in the season so that our BBQ doesn't get interrupted by bylaw enforcement officials.
