South Africa, the economic motor of the African continent, became a BRICS Nation in 2011. A strong partner in
German development efforts, South Africa and its population of 50 million represent an attractive market with
great potential. Our two countries have collaborated successfully for years, and the German Federal Ministry of
Education and Research (BMBF) has joined South Africa's Department of Science and Technology (DST) to
promote the German South African Year of Science 2012/2013. “Enhancing Science Partnerships for
Innovation and Sustainable Development” means building partnerships and understandings that allow business
to support these goals.
Südafrika ist der wirtschaftliche Motor des afrikanischen Kontinents und zählt seit 2011 zu den BRICS-Staaten.
Als starker Partner der deutschen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit ist das rund 50 Mio. einwohnerstarke Land für
deutsche Unternehmen ein attraktiver und chancenreicher Markt. Deutschland verbindet eine langjährige und
erfolgreiche Partnerschaft mit Südafrika. Das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) hat in
Kooperation mit dem südafrikanischen Partnerministerium das Deutsch Südafrikanische Jahr der Wissenschaft 2012/2013 ausgerufen mit dem Ziel, den Austausch und die Bildung neuer Partnerschaften zu intensivieren.

Die GGS
Within a short time, GGS has become a respected research and educational institution, a business and law
think tank that adheres to the highest international standards. We are an innovative and internationally oriented
business school dedicated to educating responsible business leaders. A key part of our international approach
is developing dynamic relationships with other universities, particularly in the countries we select for our annual
international study tours. The tours promote a better understanding of business and law in diverse world cultures, and they in turn help GGS serve as a place of intercultural learning and understanding.
Die GGS hat sich in kurzer Zeit zu einer anspruchsvollen Bildungs- und Forschungseinrichtung entwickelt, die
sich als Think Tank für Unternehmen versteht und sich in ihren Leistungen an internationalen Top-Standards
orientiert. Wir sind eine innovative und international ausgerichtete Business School, die verantwortungsvolle
Führungspersönlichkeiten in Management und Recht aus- und weiterbildet. Die Business School verfolgt
konsequent internationale Hochschulpartnerschaften, indem sie bspw. mit einer jährlichen internationalen
Studienreise Universitäten im Zielland besucht. Die GGS trägt so zu einem besseren Verständnis von Wirtschaft
und Recht in den verschiedensten Kulturen der Welt bei und ist damit ein Ort interkultureller Lern- und
Erkenntnisprozesse.

Internationale Studienreise (12. - 22. April 2013)
GGS study tours in previous years have gone to the BRICS Nations of China, Brazil, and India. In 2013 South
Africa is our destination. The tour will emphasise management and law topics as well as regional and cultural
aspects of South Africa. Site visits will offer a platform for dialogue at host enterprises and universities, along
with the chance to meet and interact with students, specialists, and company representatives in South Africa.
Throughout the experience, interdisciplinary exchange among GGS students and faculty from different degree
programmes deepens the opportunity for insight and builds lasting community.
In den vergangenen Jahren führte die GGS Studienreise in die BRICS-Staaten China, Brasilien und Indien. 2013
ist Südafrika Zielland der GGS-Studienreise. Dabei werden den Studierenden der GGS schwerpunktmäßig
fachbezogene Kenntnisse aus den Bereichen Management und Recht und landeskundliche Aspekte vermittelt.
Darüber hinaus bietet die Studienreise eine Plattform für den Dialog mit Unternehmen und Hochschulen sowie
Begegnungsmöglichkeiten mit Studierenden, Wissenschaftlern, und Unternehmensvertretern in Südafrika.
Zusätzlich wird der interdisziplinäre Austausch zwischen Studierenden und Professoren der GGS-Studiengänge
gestärkt und damit der GGS Community Gedanke intensiviert.
General Programme and Academic Curriculum
Rahmenprogramm und akademisches Curriculum
GGS professors Alexandra von Bismarck (Business Law, Intellectual Property and IT Law) and Christopher
Stehr (International Management) are the tour’s academic leaders, joined by visiting professor Jan Doppegieter
(Managerial Finance), who has long-standing ties with South Africa. As part of the academic curriculum, students will encounter enterprises that function in various industries and markets (such as service organisations,
production facilities, consultancies, and law firms), and the group will visit important universities. Students can
receive up to 6 ECTS credits for their respective GGS programmes. To earn ECTS credits, students have to
write a paper and give a presentation about a topic related to the host country (political, economic, legal, etc.).

Attractive tourism options round out the programme.
GGS Professorin Alexandra von Bismarck (Wirtschaftsrecht, Gewerblicher Rechtsschutz und IT-Recht) und Professor Christopher Stehr (Internationales Management) sind akademische Leiter der Studienreise gemeinsam
mit Gastprofessor Jan Doppegieter (Managerial Finance), der langjährige Verbindungen zu Südafrika pflegt.
Das Rahmenprogramm basiert auf einem akademischen Curriculum und umfasst schwerpunktmäßig Besuche
von renommierten Hochschulen und Unternehmen, die in verschiedenen Branchen und Bereichen (bspw.
Dienstleister, produzierendes Gewerbe, Consultingunternehmen, Kanzleien) und Märkten agieren. Für die Teilnahme können Studierende bis zu 6 ECTS Leistungspunkte erwerben und in ihrem jeweiligen GGS-Studiengang
anrechnen lassen. Voraussetzung der Anrechnung ist die Bearbeitung einer schriftlichen Hausarbeit/Assignment
sowie einem Vortrag zu verschiedenen Themen (bspw. politische, ökonomische und rechtliche). Die zu erbringenden Leistungen werden in der Modulbeschreibung zur Studienreise und in einem Vorbereitungsseminar an
der GGS erläutert. Ein attraktives touristisches Angebot rundet das Programm ab.
