1.0 Introduction: BMW Group Signage

I.
Purpose: To provide the BMW customers with an image consistent with the BMW Group worldwide standard.
Please note that all signs shall be manufactured according to established specifications utilizing proprietary components developed for BMW
Group use.
All sign proposals for installations require BMW NA regional approval.
BMW Center single-point requirements; Each BMW Center site shall have at a minimum:
A. Primary signage:
1. One double-sided BMW freestanding sign as per worldwide BMW specifications containing the BMW Roundel. This shall be:
a) Pylon sign, P1-P10 or
b) Monument sign, M2-M4
(1) For the pylon signs P1-P6, the lower panel shall contain the locations DBA name or other BMW NA approved name
and address.
(2) For monuments M2-M4, the panel(s) furthest from the main road shall contain the locations DBA name or other
BMW NA approved name and address.
2. One building sign consisting of the following parts:
a) One Center Name Module (CNM), as per worldwide BMW specifications with the DBA name or other BMW NA approved
name.
b) One BMW logo module, in a size corresponding to the CNM size.
c) Additional Logo Modules: M-Logo and/or i-logo modules (Available only to those approved dealers) in a size corresponding
to the CNM size.
d) Bearing structure: The center name module (CNM) and logo modules (LM) referenced above must be mounted to a bearing
structure manufactured as per BMW worldwide standards.
B. CPO signage
1. Each designated BMW Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) display area shall have at least one approved CPO sign (either wall mount or
pylon) to highlight that part of the facility.
C. Secondary signage
1. Directional signs: Each location shall have interior and exterior directional signage consisting of the following: DS-FS, DS-WM-S,
DS-WM-L, DS-P (freestanding, wall mount; small and large, projecting). Exact number and location to be determined on a site by
site basis, and to be approved by BMW NA.
2. Additional secondary signage used to identify service areas and the like. Note that secondary signage shall not compete with, nor
reduce the size of, primary signage
a) It is preferred to have a bearing structure with a CNM module to read “Service” and the BMW logo.

II.
Stand-Alone CPO Facilities:
A. Primary signage:
1. One double-sided BMW CPO-FS freestanding sign as per BMW specifications containing the BMW Roundel, the CPO Logo, and the
Approved DBA. Available sizes CPO-FS2 through CPO-FS6
2. One building sign consisting of the following parts:
a) One Center Name Module (CNM), as per worldwide BMW specifications with the DBA name or other BMW NA approved
name.
b) One BMW logo module, in a size corresponding to the CNM size.
c) One Module with Stainless Steel Letters to read “BMW Certified Pre-Owned” in a size corresponding to the CNM size.
d) Bearing structure: The center name module (CNM) and logo modules (LM) referenced above must be mounted to a bearing
structure manufactured as per BMW worldwide standards.
Note: Additional Logo Modules are not approved (including M-Logo and/or i-logo modules) for use at stand-Alone CPO Facilities
or areas with CPO signage.
B. CPO signage
1. If allowed by code, additional CPO Building Signs (CPO-10, 15 or 20) may be mounted to the building.
C. Secondary signage

3.0 Primary Signage-BMW
 The purpose of Primary signage is to identify the facility to the public. In general, primary signage
consists of the following:
 Freestanding logo signs; either pylon or monument.
 Center Name Modules (CNM’s) with Logo Modules (LM’s), to highlight the front of the
building, display the approved DBA name, and to reinforce the brand.
 Long Distance Logo Module Signs

3.1 BMW Exterior Pylons P1-P6
Application:
For use as main ID for BMW Centers, located in front of center near main roadway, perpendicular to traffic flow.
Specifications:
Manufactured using BMW specific formed logos, extrusions & castings. Logos are internally illuminated with HighOutput Fluorescent lamps. Lower panel is additionally illuminated with ground mounted HID lighting.
BMW Center name:
Polished stainless steel individual letters mounted directly to background, copy is limited to approved DBA name and
address.
Installation:
Site specific: Requires concrete footing with anchor bolts to meet local codes.

3.2 Exterior Pylons P7 - P10
Application:
For use as main ID for BMW Centers, located in front of center near main roadway, perpendicular to traffic flow.
Specifications:
Manufactured using BMW specific formed logos, extrusions & castings. Logos are internally illuminated with High-Output
Fluorescent lamps.
Installation:
Site specific, requires concrete footer with anchor bolts as per local codes.

3.3 Exterior Monument M2 - M4
Application:
When Pylon sign cannot be utilized due to site conditions and/or local codes, the monument serves as main ID for BMW Centers. Sign
should be located in front of center near main roadway, perpendicular to traffic flow. The BMW Logo is always mounted so that it is
closest to the main roadway.
Specifications:
Manufactured using BMW specific formed logos, extrusions & castings. Logos are internally illuminated with High-Output Fluorescent
lamps. Sign is additionally illuminated with ground mounted HID lighting, which is available at additional cost.
BMW Center name: Polished stainless steel individual letters mounted directly to background, copy is limited to DBA name and address.
Installation:
Site specific: Requires concrete footing with anchor bolts to meet local codes.

3.4 Projecting Logo Modules PLM2 – PLM4
Application:
When site conditions and/or local codes prohibit the use of the pylon or
monument sign, the Projecting Sign can serve as main ID for BMW Centers.
In addition the exterior Projecting Sign can be utilized to increase the brand
recognition at larger centers, with BMW regional approval. Sign should be
located in front of center near main roadway, perpendicular to traffic flow.
Specifications:
Manufactured using BMW specific formed logos, extrusions & castings.
Logos are internally illuminated with High-Output Fluorescent lamps.
Installation:
Requires blocking and/or additional support as determined by site conditions.

3.5 Bearing Structure, Center Name Module, and Logo Module

Application:
The Center Name Module provides primary identification for the BMW Center Name.
Specifications:
Manufactured using BMW specific formed logos, extrusions & castings. Letters are Stencil-Cut into white aluminum
background, and have push-through acrylic lettering with a polished stainless-steel face. Center name module is internally
illuminated with High-Output Fluorescent lamps.
Installation:
The Center Name Module is always mounted to the Bearing Structure, which can be either freestanding or wall mount,
depending upon field conditions and local codes.

3.6 Long Distance Building Signage

Application:
For buildings of two stories or greater that have all required primary signage, the BMW Long Distance signage is
intended to mount directly onto the building, for greater long-distance identification of the BMW facility.
Specifications:
Manufactured using BMW specific formed logos, and aluminum. The logo is internally illuminated with LED’s.
Installation:
The preferred location is at or near the top of the building. Each location to be approved by BMWNA.

4.0 Secondary Signage-BMW
 The purpose of Secondary signage is to provide directional information and to highlight key areas
of the facility such as Service, Parts, Lifestyle Accessories, & restrooms. In general, Secondary
signage consists of the following:
 Interior i-Module and M Module
 Exterior directional signage
 Exterior wall mount/top mount signage
 Interior wall mount/top mount signage
 Interior wall mounted letters
 Interior plaques for restrooms (note that restroom plaques are ADA compliant)

4.1 Interior Illuminated BMWi, and M Logos.
Application:
Interior illuminated logo modules to
highlight BMW M and/or BMWi vehicle
areas inside the BMW Center.
Specifications:

4.2 BMW Interior Reception Sign.
Application:
Interior illuminated logo module with auxiliary module highlighting categories within the BMW Center. To be located
at or near the guest entrance.
Specifications:
White acrylic modules and thermoformed logos illuminated with white LED lighting. Lettering is Black Acrylic.
Available Formats:
Single sided freestanding, wall mount and double-sided ceiling hung.

4.3 Exterior Directional Signs DS-FS, DS-WM-S, DS-WM-L, DS-P
Application:
Non –Illuminated Exterior signage to
direct customers to various areas of
the BMW Center.
Can also be used as secondary
identification to highlight a Service or
Parts area.
Copy is site specific, and is supplied
by BMW Center.
Specifications:
4” deep aluminum sign with internal
supports. Copy panels are white with
black lettering.
DS-FS: Freestanding sign is ground
mounted, and is usually located at
intersections and curb cuts as per site
conditions.
DS-WM-S, DS-WM-L: Small and
large wall mount signs are located at
prominent wall facing traffic, using
suitable anchors for wall material.
DS-P: Projecting mount signs are
located as per site conditions

4.4 Ceiling Suspended Sign CS1
Application:
When other signage is not appropriate, or will not receive local zoning approval, the CS1 sign is utilized to direct
customers to various areas of the facility. Should not compete with any primary signage. Copy is site specific, and is
supplied by BMW Center.
Specifications:
6” deep illuminated sign cabinet. Letters are stencil cut into white aluminum background, which is backed up with
day/night acrylic. (Black letters during day, white at night.)
Illumination:
High output white fluorescent lamps.
Electrical Req.:
One 120 volt circuit, line amp = 2.5
Installation:
Can be either wall or hanging mount

4.5 Interior Directional Signs IDS
Application:
Non –Illuminated Interior signage to direct customers to various areas of the BMW Center. Can also be used as
secondary identification to highlight a Service or Parts area. Copy is site specific, and is supplied by BMW Center.
Specifications:
White Acrylic panels with black vinyl copy. Hardware as required for mounting.

4.6 Door Vinyl
Application:
Vinyl cut lettering to provide the guest with information about the BMW Center and operating hours.
Specifications:
Second service, reverse cut vinyl lettering. Copy provided by BMW Center.
Installation:
On inside surface of glass door.

4.6 Interior Letters IL
Application:
Interior letters mounted above entrance to the BMW Lifestyle Boutique.
Specifications:
1” thick letters with charcoal black returns and faces.
Installation:
Use mounting pattern for VHB tape installation.

5.0
BMW Certified Pre-Owned Sign Elements
 As set-forth in the Signage Standards, the Certified Pre-Owned Signage provides Primary and/or
Secondary information for the Certified Pre-Owned facility.
 BMW CPO Fork signs provide primary identification for the remote located stand-alone
BMW Certified Pre-Owned facility.
 Secondary Pylons provide primary identification at stand-alone facilities adjacent to BMW
facilities.
 CPO Illuminated Directional Signs provide identification at driveways and entrances.
 CPO Wall mount signage promotes the BMW Certified Pre-Owned brand throughout the
facility.
 Interior Kiosks/Exterior Kiosks provide additional information to the potential BMW Certified
Pre-Owned clientele.
 Interior & Exterior Banners highlight vehicles within an area of the lot and/or showroom as
BMW Certified Pre-Owned.

5.1
BMW CPO Fork Sign FS3-FS
Application: For use as main identification at Pre-Owned facilities, which are remote from the main lot. Sign is to be located in front of BMW
Pre-Owned center, perpendicular to traffic flow.
Specifications: Roundel Module; Bright white aluminum with illuminated roundel. CPO Module; Charcoal painted aluminum with push
through clear acrylic copy. Copy to have translucent silver vinyl overlay. BMW Center name Module; BMW Center name is polished stainless
steel letters. Poles are painted to match #230-121 silver.
Illumination: Roundel is illuminated via High output white fluorescent lamps.
Installation: Requires concrete footing to meet local codes.

5.2 BMW CPO Building Sign (10’, 15’, 20’)
Application: For main or remote Pre-Owned BMW Centers, located at prominent wall or entryway, aligned with major architectural
element, minimum 8’-0” above grade.
Please note that this element may not be mounted to a BMW Bearing Structure.
Specifications: Cabinet Construction is fabricated aluminum enclosure with internal aluminum angle frame.
Face/background is aluminum painted approved dark charcoal.
Copy & bars are ½” thick clear push through acrylic, with sandblasted sides. Copy & bars are laminated with translucent silver vinyl #230121.
Illumination: High output white fluorescent lamps.
Installation: As field conditions require, wall or, hanging.

5.3 BMW CPO Interior Hanging Sign
Application: At prominent location facing main frontage. Mounted at interior showroom window so that it is viewed from the showroom and
the lot, minimum 7’-6” above finished floor.
Specifications: Cabinet Construction is fabricated aluminum enclosure with internal aluminum angle frame. Face/background is aluminum
painted approved dark charcoal. Copy & bars are ¼” thick clear push through acrylic, with sandblasted sides. Copy & bars are laminated
with translucent silver vinyl #230-121.
Illumination: High output white fluorescent lamps.
Electrical Requirements: One 120-volt circuit, line Amps 2.8.
Installation: Hanging via stainless steel cable, to existing supports.

5.4 BMW CPO Interior Kiosk
Application: Freestanding marketing display to be
located prominently on showroom floor.
Specifications: Internal framing support using aluminum
structure.
Header face / background are aluminum painted dark
charcoal. Copy & bars are ¼” push through acrylic with
translucent silver vinyl application...#230-121, &
sandblasted sides.
Non-illuminated unit with weighted base.
Face panel/background decorated with
reproduced poster panel, copy as shown.

Application:

5.6 BMW CPO Exterior Banners
Application: For use on existing site lighting standards, poles
should be 20’-0” high minimum.
Specifications: Full color vinyl double-sided banners mount in
series as shown. Sold in pairs, one “BMW” and one CPO Logo.
Installation Notes:
 Banners should be mounted a minimum of 9’-0” above
grade for pedestrian traffic or 15’ above grade to avoid vehicular
traffic.
 Use CPO-BRK brackets to mount to existing light standards
without penetrating pole wherever possible.
 CPO-BRK brackets come with quality Band-it® stainless
steel banding and clamping hardware. Please note that a special
Band-it® tool is required to tighten banding properly. This tool
(CPO-BIT) is available separately.
 Banners must be mounted taunt and periodically checked
to ensure that they remain so.
 Allow space for cooling between any light fixture and top of
banner.
 Mount banners in a location to avoid damage by people,
cars, and delivery trucks.
 USS will not be responsible for banners installed by others.
 Prior to mounting, please make sure that all documentation
supplied with the brackets is read and understood.

If mounting to square poles that measure 5" or larger on the
face, a square pole adapter (CPO-SPA) is available separately.

5.7 BMW CPO Interior Banners
Application: Sold in pairs (One "BMW" and one CPO logo), mounts to ceiling inside of
showroom. These banners highlight specific portions of the BMW Center dedicated
to BMW Certified Pre-Owned vehicles.
Specifications: Full color double-sided banners mount to ceiling utilizing eyebolts and
hanging wire.
Installation Notes:

Intended for interior use only.

Banners mount at top only via dowel w/ eyebolts, with a weight at the bottom.

Allow space for cooling between any light fixture and top of banner.

Mount banners in a location to avoid damage by people, cars, and delivery spaces.

USS will not be responsible for banners installed by others.

Prior to mounting, please make sure that all documentation supplied with the
brackets is read and understood.

6.0 Certified Collision Repair Center Sign Elements
 As set-forth in the Signage Standards, this signage provides identification for BMW Certified
Collision Repair Centers.

For exterior identification of BMW Certified Collision Repair Centers. May be used as shown, or in conjunction with a CNM
with the approved BMW Center Name.
Specifications:

white aluminum background. Logo module is internally illuminated with High-Output Fluorescent lamps.
Installation:
The Certified Collision Repair Center Signage is always mounted to the Bearing Structure, which can be either
freestanding or wall mount, depending upon field conditions and local codes.

8.0 Center Ordering Procedures
Signs Made Simple!
Step 1: Fill out Sign Survey Request Form.
Please initiate your order by completely filling out the Sign Survey Request form. Note that this will allow United Sign Systems
gather specific information about your location and is the initial step in preparing a comprehensive site-specific proposal for
your location. Please make sure that you consider the selection of a contact person carefully, as she/he will have the
responsibility of final approval of what the signage will say, and what size they will be. Please send the form and related
information (site plan, wall sections, exterior wall elevations, etc.) to: United Sign Systems, 206 Tower Drive, Oldsmar, FL
34677.
Step 2: Survey/Sign Selection.
United Sign Systems will perform an exterior survey your site, perform a check of local codes, and call you to discuss your
specific signage needs.
Step 3: Formal Proposal
Based upon the above information, United Sign Systems will provide you with a formal proposal outlining costs for the
requested products, services, shipping, tax and approximate lead time for the project. All proposals are subject to
review/approval by BMWNA. Please note that most proposals exclude electrical feeds, final connections, additional support to
building etc. Please review your proposal thoroughly prior to signing. If you have any questions at any time, please feel free to
call us at 888-704-1516.
Upon receipt of approval of our proposal and all necessary documentation, United Sign Systems will then process your order
and will insure that your site has the proper BMW Group identification!
Timeline:
After receipt of proposal and all necessary documentation (Site plans, legal descriptions, letter of authorization, etc.) permits
can take up to three months or more, depending upon your area. Please note that permits cannot be applied for until we have
complete information on your location.
Production time is generally 8-12 weeks; shipping is 3-10 days, and installation 1-2 weeks.

Existing BMWNA signage that is not part of the newer BMWNA CI requirements must be removed and destroyed by
United Sign Systems, or certified such by the facility.
United Sign Systems will not be responsible for any signs stored by others.
Upon receipt of all the survey information, United Sign Systems will note it as received, & begin process based upon location.

This form is to initiate a service call to repair existing signage at your BMW Center.
Upon receipt of this form, United Sign Systems will dispatch a service crew to your location. First calls are usually responded
to within 3 business days. Calls received after 11:00 am are processed the following day.
By signing below, the BMW Center agrees to allow United Sign Systems and/or its authorized representative on site for the
purpose of performing service and repair to existing signage. It is further agreed that the cost for this service will not exceed
$650.00 without authorization from the BMW Center contact.

Statement of Limited Warranty:
Signs are warranted for a period of one year from the date of installation or title passage, whichever occurs first, against faulty
workmanship and construction except as defined below:
Electrical wiring: If United Sign Systems installs and maintains unit, the one-year warranty will apply. Otherwise, the warranty shall be
limited to ninety days for parts only, no labor.
Electrical Components: After warranty period, United Sign Systems, passes on to the buyer the warranties provided by the component
manufacturers. This does not include conversion labor, freight or installation. Lamps are not warranted. Brightness and uniform lighting of
LED’s are excluded from this warranty.
Installation: For one year on workmanship and materials, only if installation is provided as part of the sale of the sign.
Plastic faces: For one year on workmanship and materials.
Sign cabinets: For one year on workmanship and materials.
Remedy: Should there be a malfunction covered by the above warranty, United Sign Systems, shall, upon written notice and within a
reasonable period of time, investigate and take corrective action. United’s liability is limited solely to repairing or replacing, at its option,
any material which, on inspection (either at its factory or by United’s service agent) is found to be defective.
Labor charges incidental to any repair or replacement outlined above are covered by the warranty (Except where the installation has not
been provided with the sale of the sign or as noted otherwise). Shipment of replacement parts covered by this warranty shall be at sole
cost and expense of United Sign Systems. United Sign Systems, also reserves the right to determine the method of shipment of any parts
to the customer.
Liability: In no case will United Sign Systems, be liable for warranty cost caused by vandalism, acts of God, abuse of sign or damage to sign
caused by either negligence of the owner or of a third party. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear associated with exterior
building signage displays.
Exclusions: At no time will United Sign Systems, be responsible for any charges for repair or replacement of components or signs without
prior written approval from a duly authorized representative of United Sign Systems or for any work performed by anyone other than an
agent specifically authorized by United for this work. Failure to obtain approval may result in cancellation of warranty. This warranty is
exclusive to the customer hereinafter designated and the contents hereof may not be disseminated or disclosed without written consent of
United Sign Systems.
