Introduction :

1. Metal detectors for packed food
For labelling, marking, weighing, or palletising, bulk materials and packed
bulk materials in most cases are examined on convoyor belts, and metalcontaminated goods are automatically separated.
The prefered method is to examine the packed product immediately before
dispatch to the customer, because there are no more production stages in
which metal particles could get into the products.

1.2 Automatic separating systems. Highest safety
If a metal impurity is detected, the detection coil with highest timing
accuracy activates an eject system, without interrupting the production
process. The ineffeciancy of manual separation is a thing of the past.
• Product- and production-oriented solutions : matched, for example,
to product size and weight, or to the conveying speed.
• Practice-oriented accessories : e.g. lockable containers for separated
(Metal-contaminated) products, level or eject mornitoring.

2. Metal separator for bulk metarials
2.1 Metal separators for free-fall applications
Free-fall separation is the most efficient method for separating metal
impurities from bulk materials. The installation of the all-metal separator
prior to filling, packing, or further processing, has the advantage at the bulk
material is examined in the smallest possible volume, and that the highest
detection accuracy can thus be achieved.
If bulk materials are filled into metal-coated foil packs, metal separation
should by all means be performed prior to this packing process in order to
avoid losses of sensitivity.
Due to the small overall height of free-fall separators, the easy integration
into conveyor pipes with standard quick-release locks, and the Control Unit
GUNIUS which can be placed at the distance of up to 100 m, free for
separators can be installed even at locations that are difficult to access.
Depending on the product, free-fall separators of series RAPID 5000,
RAPID 6000, or MFE can be used.

2.2 Metal separators for pneumatic coveyor sections
Metal Separators GENIUS GF can be integrated in all section and pressure
conveyor pipes. Their design guarantees that metal impurities are reliably
separated also in case of high coveying speeds, without interuption of the
flow of material.

2.3 Metal detection in case of minimum available space

reasons of space, or where the metaldetection signal is intended to control
customer-spacific equipment.

3. Metal detector for pasty food
The Metal Detector GENIUS PL offers high-sensitivity in-line metal
detection for all pasty and viscous food materials immediately before or
during filling. It can be integrated in any existing pipe system without any
problems.

Operator control unit and graphic display : function display and setting

2. Standard equipment for QMS and HACCP

system, product, are event data (e.g. metal detection, system modifications,

Report generator : sends the log book data to the printer or PC in the form
of lists or statistics.

The central data management system INSIGHT is an important element of
your quality assurance in keeping with HACCP. All that is required as a
master computer is a PC with Pentium processor and Microsoft Windows.
INSIGHT makes metal detection transparent;
• The logbook data of all S+S metal detectors and separators that are
integrated in the production process can be called up individually or
the batch. The evaluation of all the parameters and metal detection,
error, and alarm message provides in-time information about the
causes of the metal impurities that occurred. These data can be further
processed, e.g. with Microsoft Exel.

• The parameters of all the networked metal separators can be changed
directly from the central control desk. The optimum setting values of
the metal separators – e.g. in case of a product change – are quickly
and safly update.
• On request it is possible to have error diagnostics and remote
maintenance performed by the S+S customer support through a
modem connection. Down-times and maintenance costs are
considerably reduced, and software updates are transferred in only a
few minutes.
