Big Boys Playground LLC (Harrisonburg, VA) (540-476-2044) Open year-round, this park is open daily to all OHVs. Harescramble trails, rock crawling course, a motocross track and deep mud pies are available. One section is notoriously called "Hell Hole", and to date no one has made it through! A lot of online searching shows families and groups of friends that have frequented the area say they’ll be visiting this trail for life. That’s a serious endorsement. Charles City Dirt Riders (Charles City, VA) (804-536-7534) Charles City Dirt Riders, Inc. (CCDR) is a non-profit dirt bike riding club open to motorcycles only (no four-wheelers) located in Charles City County, Virginia, between Richmond and Williamsburg. Permit Required? Moto Cove (Gore, VA) (540-858-2882) We have four one-way, single-directional trails for the off-road mountain trail enthusiast. Each trail is marked with corresponding colored arrows. Patterson Mountain OHV Trail (Eagle Rock, VA) (540-552-4641) The Patterson Mountain OHV Trail is a trail for all-terrain vehicles, dirt bikes, motorcycles, motorbikes, and mountain bikes. The 15-mile trail is part of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests, near Potts Jeep Trail and The Stacks. Prohibited Prohibited Patterson Mountain OHV Trail is an exciting trail for all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and dirt bike enthusiasts. Almost 15 miles of trail contain challenges for users of differing skill levels. This area has about 15 miles of OHV trails with steep inclines, deep valleys and water crossings. Peters Mill Run and Taskers Gap OHV Trails (Edinburg, VA) (540-459-1100) This area consists of two separate trail systems that can be accessed from the Edinburg and Taskers Gap Staging Area. Free primitive camping and direct trail access can be found at Little Fort Campground but the area is small and large trailers or RVs are not recommended. Permit Required? Motorcycles Some areas Some areas Prohibited Prohibited The area to the north is Peters Mill Run Trail a 12 mile, moderately challenging rocky 4x4 trail loop with occasional creek crossings, while Taskers Gap to the south offers some challenging ATV trail loops. The two areas combined offer about 40 miles of trails to explore. Rocky Run ATV Trail (Harrisonburg, VA) (540-432-0187) This area offers a 10 mile long narrow and rocky 4x4 trail loop that offers scenic mountain views of Second Mountain and the City of Harrisonburg. The trail is marked with orange blazes and primitive camping is permitted alongside the trail but not at the trailhead. RVs and long campers are not advised due to the main entrance road (FDR 72) being very narrow with few turnouts and limited parking at the staging area Permit Required? Motorcycles The park house 2 main trails averaging 10 to 15 miles in length. Each trail has little offshoots the vary in difficulty. The trails consist of Rocks, Jumps, Mud, and Water. At the bottom of the mountain, across the Highway, you will find lots of short flat trails leading back to the river. Slades Park (Surry, VA) (757-886-6000) Open daily from 9am to dusk, this area is open to ATVs, UTVs, and dirt bikes, with a peewee and motocross track. It offers about 12 miles of marked woods trails that sprawl over 300 acres. Camping is permitted and full hookups are available. A concession stand is available during weekends that also sells bagged ice and some parts and supplies. Pets are not permitted and helmets mandatory Permit Required? No Other Vehicles? Prohibited Prohibited Slades Park has been providing motorcycle enthusiasts a safe, challenging and expansive enviornment to enjoy dirt bikes and four wheelers. 12 miles of trail on over 300 acres, Annual dirt drag races. Slades Park also has full hookup campsites. 30 minutes from Williamsburg. South Pedlar ATV Trail System (Big Island, VA) (540-291-2188) This looping network of 19 miles is specifically designed for the recreational ATV rider. Advanced riders will find challenges in the narrow and twisting trails, while others will find trails that are wide and inviting. Visitors to the area enjoy panoramic vistas, spectacular mountain laurel blooms in season, and relief from the hot summer sun under the shady forest canopy. Permit Required? Prohibited Prohibited This trail system offers two staging areas and about 19 miles of ATV trail loops that range in difficulty from challenging to easy.Several scenic points can be accessed from the trails. There are lots of little jumps, but this is a multi-use trail with two-way traffic, and chances are good that you will encounter some mountain bikers. Spearhead Trails (St. Paul, VA) (276-525-5610) This new multiple use trail system opened to the public in June 2013.The Mountain View Trail System currently has around 85 miles of trails and they are in the process of adding more, including about 10 miles of single track. The trail system is marked and rated and offers panoramic mountain views and direct access to lodging and dining facilities. Permit Required? Climate Type Yes Forest Other Vehicles? Prohibited Prohibited A region already known for its scenic beauty, outdoor recreation, traditional American music and cultural heritage crafts, Southwest Virginia now offers family-friendly ATV trails and will soon offer equestrian systems. Virginia Highlands Horse Trail (Sugar Grove, VA) (276-783-5196) This 67 mile long trail winds through a mixed hardwood forest and consists of double track, several creek crossings, narrow single track and plenty of scenic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The trail is open seasonally to motorcycles from October through April 1 but is open year-round to non-motorized use. Permit Required? It features mountainous terrain, valley views and valley crossings. The trail includes parking and primitive camping for those who trailer horses.
